Once the party's business at the Flaming Fist finishes, captain Highwind meets them outside with Elayne and a rather familiar-looking dwarf, though you haven't seen him in quite some time:

"'s a pleasure tae work wit' ye again," Urist Ironwrought comments. "E'er since ye brought tha steppin' disks o' Ammarindar 'ere, I've been workin' tae discover their secrets."

Elayne gestures slightly with one hand, looking somewhat aloof, "I believe we can use the principle behind the stepping disks to get you inside the tower. Gallard used a teleportation device to enter and leave the tower, and I believe I have decoded the necessary arcane pattern to use the stepping disk to enter. Still, the range of the teleportation device was quite short, so we must first get to the tower."

The gruff dragonborn grunts and motions for the group to follow, "Come with me." The party and its companions leave the area of the Flaming Fist headquarters, and begin to head to what appears to be a lower class district within the city walls. The homes here tend to be a bit seedier looking than the middle-class areas you traversed before, and you begin spotting more pedestrians of the goblin and tiefling races. Captain Highwind motions you down a side-alley, which leads to a hatch covering what appears to be a tunnel leading downward. The hatch is locked with a strong-looking padlock, but the dragonborn produces a key and unlocks it, leading you inside. "Sorry about the smell, but we're gonna have to pass through the sewer system in order to reach the wizard cave."

To be honest, the smell down here isn't THAT bad, though it's definitely noticeably worse than up on the surface. Perhaps passing through the lower class district first had prepped your sense for it, however. It is, on the other hand, dark. Captain Highwind produces a sunrod and shines it ahead of you, while Elayne holds a small, glowing pendant in the back ranks. The trip through the sewer system is uneventful, as you stick to walkways made of worked stone, above the sludge-like liquid below, as the dragonborn leads you a short distan

Then he rolls the carpet north and wraps the bundle up with the other carpet, ignoring the protests of the dragonborn inside. The paladin shoves the bundle under the burning brazier in the northwest corner, one end against the wall and the other weighed down with another couple rolled up carpets courtesy of Rutger. The manipulator is thus in the dishonorable situation of being tied up, wrapped up, wedged under something on fire, and having something piled on him. He quirks an eyebrow at the rest of the group, motioning to the stairs and the other door, "Can we go now"

Once Sariel finishes enchanting the party's latest assortment of magical items, they finish their purchases in town and gathers in the Helm and Cloak inn for a relaxed and rather luxurious stay. The innkeeper is quite accommodating, as these guests have the blessing of the grand duke. Morning finds the party assembling slowly, one by one, until all six are gathered outside. Michael receives a messenger from East Rift, who has gone to great lengths to track him down Feel free to elaborate on this!

The team heads to the palace for their audience with the grand duke. It seems people are slowly beginning to return to the streets of Baldur's Gate, though it's clear that there are more armed humanoids wandering the streets--presumably members of the Flaming Fist. The guard around the palace has also been increased, but you are hurried in under escort from heavily armored guards as soon as you are spotted.

The grand duke is waiting on the raised platform within the great hall of his "throne room" in the ducal palace. He stands when you approach, and he is flanked by two guards--one of whom you recognize from earlier, the dragonborn captain of the ducal guard. "I hope you rested well," the grand duke Prestor says, beginning the audience, "I trust you have reached a decision."

You all receive the benefit of an extended rest and officially level up to 5, receiving a theme and a free expertise feat as outlined in the houserule thread.

She's telling you all that she believes is important about the investigation, but is clearly more focused on battle than detective work at this point. Brozwon, sitting idly in the armory sharpening a broadsword when you find him, turns to face Myn at his request. "You did a trade-in for that recently... I could return one of the items you exchanged to us earlier in trade for it, if you wish."

Around midday, your raft passes through a particularly wide section of the river and around a mountain bend. On the southeast side of the river is a thick forest of conifer trees, the tallest of which are dozens of feet tall and tipped with snow. On the northwest side of the river is a steep mountain path that leads upwards along a winding trail to a rather abrupt, artificially-cared cliffside. At the end of the trail in the distance, you can see what appears to be a hefty pair of iron gates blocking entrance into the mountain itself Presumably, the majority of Mithral Hall lies within the mountain and underground. In addition, you notice what appear to be about a half-dozen or so smaller humanoids patrolling the path to the gates.

As your raft slows and drifts towards the shore, about three of the humanoids leave the front of the gate and slowly walk their way down the path towards the point where you will eventually disembark. As they draw closer, you can tell that they are heavily armored and wielding hefty great axes.

Gourmert nods to you and says, "You lads ready fer this?"

I had a more elaborate post but i lost it then have sleep cause work tomorrow, etc. Hide 11/07/22(Fri)21:45:59 No. 3756 It had been a while since him and the other members of the party had been able to relax in an Inn like this. No sooner than he had started to relax though, he was receiving a knock at the door of his room that he has a visitor. Perplexed that he would have one outside of his party, he answered the door with caution. As it turned out it was someone he knew that worked with him and his Father from the East Rift, sent to deliver some sort of family Heirloom to him. After catching up a bit and receiving a letter from his family, Michael writes one back detailing a little it of the goings on lately and some warnings to be careful or on the lookout from these sort of things. The armor in question is a Magic Scale Armor, which Michael equips now that he's been better trained on how to use them. Tomorrow he's going to maybe ask Sariel to disenchant his old armor and modify the armor he has just received. He sends his friend off with thanks and in the letter he wrote, asks for his family to pay the person who delivered these things a little extra as thanks.

Once the party passes through the gates, the boat slowly arcs back north towards the river's mouth, and you have a slightly bumpy ride as your automated magical rivercraft transitions from the open sea to the great Surbin river. The climate is temperate, and the surroundings are fairly open, with scatterings of trees here and there as you continue north without much incident of note.

It takes five days to pass through an unusually sandy passage, with the pseudo-shaman sleeping in the day and keeping watch whenever the ship stops at dusk to make camp, and then begins to glow brightly at dawn when it's ready to head off again. Whenever the boat stops, it moves over to shore and deploys a small platform which folds from the side of the hull, and a chain harpoon-like construction darts out and fixes itself firmly to the ground, to prevent any odd currents from pulling the boat away. The river itself has been calm the whole way, however, and quiet. Gourmert will entertain you with whatever stories he has of his journeys around northwest Faerun, particularly focusing on the different local foods. He will also offer to share a bit of food from his pack if asked, though you all expend at least four trail rations along the way*. You notice the terrain has become steadily more swamp-like and marshy as you leave the somewhat deserted areas, and the trees hang low and droop as if over-saturated with water.

*If you want to avoid spending trail rations, you may take one Nature check per day (so five total). DC15 will find food/water for yourself, DC25 will for up to five people. Each of you may make individual checks. Foraging may include looking around while camped, hunting, fishing, or other reasonable methods. You don't have to worry about water, being on a river and all. Brief pause here for foraging opportunities, then we'll move onto the good stuff.

The next few days of your journey pass without incident, except that the temperature begins to drop sharply, and you start seeing snow here and there as you continue your journey northward. By the time you near your destination, you can see snow-tipped peaks in the distance, and the ground beneath your feet is mostly devoid of plant life, except for the most hardy of trees and shrubbery.
