Elayne looks at the two that addressed her briefly. "Do not worry, I have already readied the scroll for this casting. It shall not take long."

Urist reaches for a satchel attached to his cleric-looking white and gray robes, and produces a small cube. "Tha storage cube works just as ye says it does, Elayne." With that, he squeezes the cube and mutters a brief incantation, and the stepping disk pops into existence and falls to the ground with an unceremonious thud. Elayne walks over to it and produces a scroll from her own robes, and begins reading it, chanting the spell contained therein.

Not being well versed in the arcane arts, Torinn just gives them room to do their ritual.

Get out shield and Vigilant Blade in case I haven't already done so

While following the proceedings, the shaman and her spirits survey the immediate surroundings for anything out of place.

Myn, somewhat impressed by the underground tower, moves to observe the ritual taking place more closely.

Bernkastel (Perception): It's hard to make out of much of anything in the dark, but it's all silent out there. The only sounds you can hear are the idle sounds of the group shuffling about, and the eladrin chanting her spell.

It only takes a few minutes for Elayne to finish the ritual, and she takes no particularly signature movements when doing so. She merely stands over the stepping disk, reading from the scroll. When she finishes, she looks up, and the words on the scroll vanish. Shortly thereafter, the stepping disk begins to glow with an alabaster light. Elayne nods, then turns back to the group, saying, "The stepping disk is attuned. I suggest you ready yourselves before stepping on it, as there is no telling what awaits you beyond the teleportation field. Nevertheless, you should be able to use the teleporter inside to leave."

Captain Highwind grunts from behind the group, and says, "I'll get a detachment of guards to relieve you, miss Elayne. We're expecting the high shaman from Many-Arrows anytime--apparently he's got a flying mount of some sort."

Elayne nods to the dragonborn captain, and Urist addresses you in the meantime, "Luck tae ye. An' lemme thank ye again for the opportunity tae study these fascinatin' pieces o' me heritage!"

The stepping disk awaits.

"Alright, this looks interesting. If you don't mind I'm going first."

"No problem," Sariel says simply. Ignoring Sureiya, she boldly steps onto the teleportation disc. A small step for an Eladrin, but a huge step for magical advancement everywhere! ... or something.

"W-wait! Do you even know how to use that sword!?"

When Sariel steps onto the disk, she simply vanishes from the sight of the rest of the party. The mage herself sees a brilliant flash of light, and suddenly reappears in a small room, with no other creatures in sight. On the floor is a magic circle of some sort, and a soft blue glowing circle emanating from the arcane symbols that form it. The walls and floor are a polished white, as if they were carved straight out of ivory or marble, but it's difficult to determine exactly what they are made of just by looking. The ceiling is about 30 feet high here, and directly to the mage's north is a metallic door with no apparent opening mechanism other than a blue, glowing crystalline sphere set into the metal where a normal door's handle might be.

The room is eerily quiet.

Getting no answer from Sariel, Sureiya decide to move to the stepping disk.

Sariel contemplates going forth, but in her time she's heard many stories of adventurers getting killed for moving hastily.

From what she recalls, that Paladin guy enjoyed getting hurt anyway, so why not let him go first?

Sariel moves to M-6, and enters Total Defence.

As Sariel moves forward a bit and prepares herself for the worst, Sureiya joins her in the small room.

Just the filth monster mongrel joining her... Sariel sighs. How misfortunate.

"Where're the others?" she demands. They aren't being slow, are they? That'd be dreadful. There are things that require divine smiting, after all.

"I didn't remind her being so bossy before, What's wrong with her?"
"Well, you just rushed here so I had to follow you, the others may come soon as well.
Light, Do you have something to light this place?"

Sariel invokes a simple spell to make Sureiya's hand glow up like a lightbulb.

"Rush? Rush? I needn't hear that from a sub-human." She glowers at Sureiya, crosses her arms and turns to the wall.

The shaman steps into the disk, joining the other two.

It is not dark inside the tower. There are runes engraved into the wall and ceiling here and there that illuminate the interior completely.

Michael joins the rest of the party within the tower, just as the shaman calls her spirits back from the aether.

While that is going on, Sureiya determines that though he can hear nothing beyond the door, it appears that the crystal "handle" of the door can be turned slightly. Sariel also determines that the runes are simply part of a simple ritual which provides semi-permanent illumination to an area.

Sureiya try to open the door and prepare himself for what could be lying ahead.

Upon opening the door, a passage into a larger room is revealed. Almost immediately Sureiya and Bernkastel detect a sort of low humming sound originating from somewhere to the north, though it's difficult to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from.

Sureiya walks casually through the door as the other adventurers prepare themselves for what's to come. Almost immediately after Sureiya finishes his walk he hears what sounds like an alarm siren emanating from both the north and east. The large room before him is largely the same as the one he is standing in in terms of floor and ceiling composition, though the ceiling is a bit higher (about 40 feet, or 8 squares), and there is a set of massive, heavy stone double doors with a large arcane sigil drawn upon them to the northeast. Perhaps most troubling are the two large statue-like figures, seemingly carved from many-colored metals and glowing with gem-like ornamentation, standing before the door. On this own this would not be concerning, but they begin to move when the alarms sound.

Sureiya quickly notices that two more golem-like beings pop into existence before his very eyes, apparently summoned into the room by some unseen force--but not completely unseen. The half-orc's keen senses detect two, small, spherical disturbances, like invisible floating orbs, hovering at specific locations to the north and east, very near where the new golems popped into existence. The new golems are a bit smaller than the towering statues before the doors, and appear to be made out of worked and hardened clay rather than metal. These sentry dolls immediately spring into action upon being summoned, ready for a fight.

Myn, the warlock, is the first among the adventurers to seize the initiative.

"Okay guys be prepared, there are two massive golems ahead. And other two doll-like things appeared from nowhere! I think I saw what summoned them, there are two semi-invisible spheres near of them. "

The warlock confidently strides forward, enveloping himself in shadows, and places a dark curse on the nearest clay golem before blasting it with a bolt of hideous psychic agony. The circuits that make up the construct's brain are definitely damaged by the blow, but it still has lots of vitality left.

Myn places his warlock's curse on Sentry Doll 1. Myn's shared agony hits Sentry Doll 1 for 13 psychic damage.

Myn (Arcana): The larger golems are called guardian golems, and are a somewhat rare design of golem used by arcane spellcasters to guard their libraries and towers, very seldom seen in the post-Spellplague era. They tend to remain dormant until activated by some other detection system--which also may summon other, lesser golems like the sentry dolls, that are made of a lighter-weight, less resistant material to make it easier to summon them. These sentry dolls are a good example of such a golem, but they are also regarded as highly volatile and expendable.

Both of the golems are similar in that their primary attack is a pummeling blow from both fists, but since they angle their blows downward by design, their reach is somewhat limited. Nevertheless, the larger golems possess a potent defender aura, and can shield their allies from blows dealt by creatures caught in the aura. In addition, the guardian golems posses a potent lightning-based blast which leaves all in its path dazed. Finally, the guardian golems have the ability to pull distant enemies towards them. The sentry dolls will pummel a single opponent harder than multiples, and occasionally let loose a gravity-based burst that weighs down anything near them. When they are damaged below about half their strength, they enter a berserk state, with reduced defense but greatly enhanced attack power. Finally, when the sentry dolls reach a critical health point, their unstable arcane core will explode in a large fiery burst.

Torinn moves into the fray, peering into the room. He says to the ranger, "I don't see any spheres..." Electricity crackles from his maw, "So let's hope this finds it!" Torinn breathes divine lightning at the area around the doll, then rushes in and smashes it with his blade, pinning it where it stands.

"And as for them..." Torinn motions to the guardian golems, sword glowing as light lances forth from the blade and pierces the nearest one. Torinn roars as he traces the arc, hoping his attack strikes true.

Torinn advances, sword and shield ready, and breathes lightning in the direction of the sentry doll before him. It's obvious that something behind and to the left of the doll was hit as well. The dragonborn then unleashes a series of charges and activates the power of his weapon and a holy smite to disable his foes as he goes.

Not a second later, and another sentry doll is summoned to the southeast. This one springs into action immediately, charging down the half-orc. As it moves, its arm detaches from its body and smashes into the half-orc, then ricochets back into its socket on the doll's body. Sureiya is thrown backwards by the force of the blow, right into the waiting reach of the other doll.

Torinn's [yellow]lightning breath[/yellow] hits Sentry Doll 1 and the unknown enemy for 4 lightning damage and they are sanctioned.
Torinn's charge attack hits Sentry Doll 1 for 9 damage and it is immobilized until the end of his next turn.
Torinn spends an action points! Torinn's charge hits the guardian golem 1 for 8 damage plus 6 radiant damage, and the guardian golem 1 is dazed until the end of Torinn's next turn.
Another sentry doll is summoned. This one acts immediately.
It charges Surieya, and its panzerfaust hits Sureiya for 14 damage and Sureiya is pushed 2 squares.

Sighing to himself, it seems the battle has already started and some of the more headlong allies who are adept at melee combat have headed in. With no other choice, the Warlord makes his way in as well while shouting,"MORADIN!"

The warlord surges forward and swings his sword, but finds the well-forged steel is unable to penetrate the clay armor of the doll. The other doll attempts to pummel the nearby half-orc, but Sureiya counterstrikes with a swift blow of his sword, knocking the blow off-balance and leaving the doll looking badly damaged.

Michael moves in and uses a melee basic attack against sentry doll 3, but misses.
Sentry doll 1 uses panzerfaust against Sureiya (taking 7 radiant damage from Torinn's divine sanction, but he counterattacks with disruptive strike for 15 damage, which bloodies it. As a result, panzerfaust misses.

Bernkastel (Arcana): All you know from the very vague information you have is that it's likely there are small, invisible constructs of some sort hovering near the dolls, and that they summoned the dolls here. Their abilities beyond that could vary, you'll need to see the actual body to determine more.

The ranger swiftly moves around the doll and slashes at the space where it thought it saw the sphere, somehow striking the invisible object twice and then whirling for a third attack against the doll, which now looks quite battered. This provokes a bit of retaliation agianst the half-orc, as the invisible sphere releases a discharge of lightning energy against the half-orc, singing his flesh. Sureiya responds with a final slice with his off-hand weapon, neatly cutting the sphere in two. What falls to the ground appears to be a black, polished-looking tiny spheroid with a single red eye set upon a swiveling gray band around the hemisphere. With its innards exposed, you can see sparking metal gears and such surrounding what appears to be a small, many-colored crystalline object in the center.

The shaman, for her part, moves her spirit up next to the ranger and infuses him with the power to strike again.

Sureiya's two-wolf pounce hits Detector 1 for 25 damage and 14 damage, which bloodies it. Sureiya takes 5 lightning damage from the detector's static discharge. The secondary attack deals 13 damage to sentry doll 1. Sureiya's off-hand strike hits the detector 1 for 16 damage, which destroys it.
Bernkastel moves her spirit companion to D-6 and uses spirit infusion on Sureiya to allow him to make a MBA against doll 1 with a +2 attack power bonus and +4 damage bonus.

She draws her sword, and from behind the Warlord launches a menacing host of illusions at both the nearby constructs.

With Sariel's sharp eye-sight, spotting the machinery Sureiya smashed is no difficult feat. She guesses this to be what the sub-human had shouted about before... has she seen any before?

Sariel (Arcana): All you know is that the power source appears to be a form of crystallized residuum. These devices will attack until destroyed now that they have summoned the sentry dolls, and were probably used as early-warning devices.

Myn (Arcana): You know what Sariel knows about the detectors, and in addition you are aware that after summoning in the golems, they tend to use their heat rays against targets that are clustered closely. They can fly effortlessly, and hover high in the air to rain their destructive rays down on their enemies. Like the other kinds of golems, they are immune to disease, fear, and sleep.

Sariel strides forward and creates a field of illusionary warriors to assault the sentry doll, but the psychic spell fails to take affect against the automated golem.

Meanwhile, the sentry doll and the nearest guardian golem team up to pummel the dragonborn into a bloody mess, and the doll elects not to push the dragonborn in this case, merely slamming him with extra force. The other guardian golem charges at the warlord, but Michael quickly leaps out of the way of the blow. Shortly thereafter, a thin, red beam of heat shoots down at the clustered group in the doorway, and sweeps across the ground, narrowly missing Michael and Sariel. Once it shoots this ray, the other detector is no longer invisible, and you can see it clearly now flying high above the battlefield.

Torinn heads back towards the others, shrugging off the attacks by the sentries. He'd really gotten in over his head this time, but he was too proud to run. He remembered that these things explode when they're defeated, which meant...

"Sureiya, I'm going to bolster your vitality a little. Don't die here." The paladin imparts some of his health to the half-orc, then faces down the wounded sentry. "But you are as good as gone." An extremely accurate strike hits the wounded doll, bringing it that much closer to its demise.

As Torinn charges away, the two dolls swing at him, but the blows are deflected away deftly by the dragonborn's armor. Even as Torinn strikes at the badly damaged golem, leaving it just barely holding together and looking like it could violently explode any moment, the detector and last doll swing at him and cannot manage to land a hit. The hidden detector's heat ray traces along the ground and burns the warlock briefly, however.

As Torinn moves, the sentry dolls miss him with their opportunity attacks (panzerfaust). His valiant strike hits sentry doll 1 for 13 damage.
Sureiya expends his second wind, which allows him to spend a surge and regain 12 hit points.

Michael's rousing words enable Torinn to regain some strength and alerts his allies to assume better positioning around their trapped foes, and he then calls out to the ranger, who delivers a devastating blow to the sentry doll. It reacts violently, curling up on itself before exploding violently, sending fiery debris out in a large area--the dragonborn, the half-elf, and the half-orc are all caught in the blast, though Torinn manages to avoid the worst of it by covering himself with his shield. In addition the other nearby sentry doll is hit by the edge of the blast.

The shaman reacts quickly, repositioning her spirits and attempting to scramble the other two golems into the shadowy zone, but they are too resistant to the magic.

Sureiya withdraws, using the respite to gather his strength before unleashing a pair of whirling blades into the air, one of which hits and the other misses before both swords return to the ranger's hands.

Sariel, for her part, conjures a zone of grasping shadows that weigh down two of the golems, leaving behind a short-lived field of shadows somewhat similar to the warlock's.

The golems, for their part, seem rather confused as to how to advance. One trudges north along the wall while another simply waits, and the final attempts to use its gravity ray to pull something closer to it, but failing that, attempts to slam at the nearby spirit companion. However, the shaman's spirit is too quick, and it nimbly dodges the blow.

One of the detectors hovers closer to the fight, unleashing a devastating ray of heat against the gathered adventurers. It starts at Torinn's feat, and though the dragonborn is able to repel the blast thanks to the swiftness bestowed upon him by Michael, the warlord himself is caught by the ray as it traces in a C-shaped pattern around them, and the warlock is hit directly on the neck by the pathing beam of heat.

Sureiya uses invigorating stride, gaining a +2 bonus to all defenses until the end of his next turn, and spending a surge to regain 12 hit points.
Sureiya's twin strike (ranged) misses the sentry doll 2 once and hits it once for 10 damage. (Assuming you meant doll 2, you don't have line of sight to doll 3).

Sureiya unleashes his blade against the spheroid twice, but can't manage to land a hit at this range. The psionic shaman grants the heavily wounded paladin a bit of healing with a touch-up on the warlock, then her spirit infuses itself into Myn for an eldritch blast, which strikes true.

Sureiya's twin strike (ranged) misses the detector 3 twice.

Sariel can't manage to land a blow with her sword on the imposing doll before her... which then immediately shifts its position a bit and unleashes a blast of silvery black energy in a close burst. Torinn is hit by the full force of the blow, though Sariel suffers a bit too, and both feel themselves weighed down by an unseen force. The doll then spreads its arms, pointing one at the dragonborn, and one at the eladrin, launching its fists directly at them in its typical manner. Though the eladrin is flung backwards by the ferocity of the attack, Torinn is the one who ends up taking the true brunt of it, due to his holy shield.
The larger golem opens its chestplates, revealing two massive glowing purple runes engraved onto whirring and clanking mechanisms within, and from inside unleashes a wave of lightning energy, which washes over Torinn, Michael, and Sureiya, leaving them dazed and in critical condition. Only Sariel's last-second mystic barrier keeps Torinn from collapsing on the spot. Michael quickly uses the power of his newly-enchanted dwarven scale armor to protect himself, and the golem fires a ray of force from a shoulder-mounted cannon at the ranger, pulling him into the zone of darkness. Both golems suffer under the effects of Myn's fiery zone and Torinn's righteous radiance for these offenses.
The spheroid hovers closer to the battle and sweeps its ray across the spaces containing the warlock and the warlord, though Myn is completely protected from the beam by the fire resistance granted by his imp familiar. The warlord only remains standing by virtue of his magical armor.

The situation is growing dire.

Sariel's booming blade misses sentry doll 2.
Sentry doll 2 shifts.
Sentry doll 2's gravity burst (minor action) misses Sariel for 5 damage and hits Torinn for 10 damage. Torinn is slowed and cannot shift (save ends both), and Sariel is slowed until the end of the doll's next turn.
Sentry doll 2's panzerfaust crits Sariel for 20 damage, and misses Torinn. Sariel is pushed 2 squares. Sentry doll 2 takes 5 damage from Myn's zone of flames and 7 damage from Torinn's righteous radiance.
Torinn uses righetous shield to take the 20 damage instead of Sariel. He also gains a +2 bonus to attack rolls until the end of his next turn.
Guardian golem 1's blitzstrahl hits Torinn, Sureiya, and Michael for 15 lightning damage, and they are dazed. Sariel uses channeling shield to reduce the amount of damage Torinn takes by 7, leaving him at 1 HP. Michael uses his dwarven armor power to regain 11 hit points.

Less than pleased with the current situation, Myn continues to hold his area of darkness in place, while firing off another shot of magic at one of the spheres. Almost as an afterthought, he places a curse on a nearby sentry as well.

Barely conscious, Torinn sways where he stands before gathering enough of his thoughts to heal himself with a prayer. Though some of his wounds fade, and the brunt of the gravity ray's effects on him are gone, the dragonborn is still out of it, his response to the goings-on around him sluggish at best. One good hit would probably knock him out.

Torinn braces himself with some healing, but is too out of it to do much else. The floating detector turns its heat ray on Torinn, as the dragonborn has shown his inability to dodge rather thoroughly. It also sweeps its ray towards where the half-orc would be, but misses completely due to its inability to see through the piercing shadows. The two golems attempt to slam their fists into Sureiya, but only the larger golem scores a clean hit.

Torinn's restore vitality allows him to regain 18 hit points, and he saves against being dazed and slowed.

Feeling quite weakened from the battle and the Warlock spell, Sureiya decide to move near to the wizard. Then, getting some strength from nowhere he throws his blade against that damn flying sphere

The ranger withdraws, and draws into his deepest reserves to overcome his affliction in order to hurl his blade at the floating detector, which slices it neatly in half. It falls to the ground in two separate pieces, sparking.

The psionic shamman summons her spirit quickly, then uses psionic power to paralyze the remaining detector and hurl it at the damaged golem. While it bounces nearly harmlessly off the golem's thick exterior, it clatters to the ground in the midst of the zone of shadows created by the warlock, and appears in a bit of distress.

Sureiya's twin strike crits the detector 3 for 17 damage, and misses the detector 3. But it is destroyed. Sureiya spends an action point to do this!

All Michael can seem to do after Bern's spirit allows him to shift closer towards the enemy is grit his teeth, dig deep down for healing, and hope the enemy is within the dark, sightless area in front of him created by the foul warlock that is with the party. All he can manage to roar out in his attempt to attack is,"We're not done yet!"

Michael draws upon all of his strength to heal himself, and then unleashes a strike that rallies his allies, granting them enough vitality to hopefully come out of this battle intact. The savage blow from his longsword leaves the doll quite damaged, and yet also more dangerous.

Michael uses his [b]second wind to regain 11 hit points and gain a +2 bonus to all defenses until the end of his next turn.
Michael spends an action point! Michael uses stand the fallen, dealing 21 damage to sentry doll 3. It is bloodied.
This allows everyone but Michael and Bernkastel to spend a surge. Myn regains 16 hit points, Torinn regains 22 hit points, Sureiya regains 16 hit points, and Sariel regains 15 hit points.

Not one to be depressed due to one or two (or three) failures, Sariel presses on and launches her Winged Horde again!

The eladrin raises her sword, and channeling psychic energy through it, conjures a horde of phantom assailants that descend upon the mechanical monstrosities that plague the adventurers, doing quite a bit of damage.

The sentry doll moves past the dazed dragonborn with ease, fearing no retribution, and again launches its armored fists against two separate targets, failing to hit the psionic shaman but easily smashing into the arcanist's meager defenses. When the guardian golem discharges another wave of electricity from its chestplates, niether the cavalier nor Sariel seem to be in very good shape.

The massive golem attempts to follow this up with an overhead smash against the hapless dragonborn, but Torinn barely manages to gain his senses long enough to block the blow with his shield. From inside the zone of shadows, you can hear whirring noises, presumably the detector struggling against the forces that bind it.

Sariel's winged horde hits detector 2, sentry doll 2, and guardian golem 1 for 11 psychic damage, and they cannot take opportunity actions until the end of her next turn.
Sentry doll 2 lumbers upwards and uses panzerfaust, missing Bernkastel and hitting Sariel for 19 damage.
Guardian golem 1 recharges blitzstrahl and uses it, hitting Torinn for 19 lightning damage and dazing him until the end of the golem's next turn, and missing Sariel for 9 lightning damage, and Sariel grants combat advantage until the end of the golem's next turn.
Guardian golem 1 spends an action points! It then misses Torrin with slam, and lumbers forward.
Detector 2 takes 13 necrotic damage from Myn's hunger of hadar, and hovers upwards. It cannot see any targets so it does not attack, and it cannot move from its space. It fails its saving throw against being immobilized.

Sureiya has a point. He's not going to help anybody if he's dead.

Reluctantly, Torinn withdraws, staggering wearily as his constant wounds and exposure to the vicious electrical attacks take their toll. He returns to the corner of the room to stop and catch his breath.

Move to H-6

Myn curses an enemy, and empowers his zone once more, only affecting the detector this time, however. This is enough to make it cease functioning. The massive golem, confused and unable to reach any foes, lumbers out of the vision-blocking zone and takes up position behind the other golem.

The sentry doll's circuits are fried by the hunger of hadar zone, but it barely manages to hold on. It repositions itself and swings feebling at the warlord, but to no avail.

Myn sustains his hunger of hadar, which misses the sentry doll 3 and guardian golem 2 but hits detector 2 for 10 necrotic damage, which destroys it.

Sureiya leaps back into the fray, and unleashes a devastating set of blows against the guardian golem. With all of the half-orc's feroicty, the golem staggers, looks confused, and collapses in a heap.

Surieya's jaws of the wolf misses guardian golem 1 once and critcs guardian golem once for 56 total damage, destroying it. Myn's curse spreads to all other enemies.

With no moral qualms about desecrating a construct's remains, the shaman smashes the detector into the golem before retrieving it for further study.

The psionic shaman flings the malfunctioning detector at the towering golem with a great deal of force, and it shatters into countless pieces on impact, breaking her control over its remains. The golem staggers from the impact of the small sphere and slumps to its knees, and "Bernkastel" takes advantage of the distraction to attempt a forceful attack on the doll, but fails to move the imposing magical golem.

Bernkastel's living missile hits guardian golem 2 for 12 damage, and knocks it prone. This action destroys the corpse of the detector 2.
Bernkastel's dimensional scramble misses sentry doll 2.

Michael tries to make a "tactical retreat" away from the one doll close to exploding and rushes to the aid of Sariel and the others pinned to the wall by one of the dolls, attempting to boost the party's spirits with his attack.

Michael's inspired belligerence causes guardian golem 2 to grant combat advantage, and you all gain a +3 bonus to damage rolls against it until the end of Michael's next turn.
Michael's bastion of defense hits sentry doll 2 for 20 damage, and each ally within 5 squares gains a +1 bonus to all defenses for the encounter and 8 temporary hit points.

Sariel's colorful orb smashes into the doll, and it seems quite affected. It swings at two of the nearby adventurers in retaliation.

Because of combat advantage and the doll having a -2 penalty to all defenses, Sariel's color orb hits sentry doll 2 for 10 radiant damage and it is dazed.
Sentry doll 2 doesn't recharge gravity burst, so it uses panzerfaust (taking a -2 penalty from aegis) against Bernkastel and Michael. It misses Bernkastel only by virtue of the +1 defense from Michael, but hits Michael for 14 damage. You can all use a number of triggered actions here, I leave it to you to decide.
