Sureiya can't find much of interest in this room. There is an expensive-looking rug on the ground, and this short hallway is carved from the same off-white ivory-like substance as the rest of the tower.

With the aid of the Shaman, Sariel begins inspecting the orb for anything that might hint towards its function--whether by mundane means or magical ones.

While the magic users hopefully find something useful about the orb and the dragon most likely being dominated while they fiddle with it, Michael sheaths his sword and equips his banner instead.

Based on the construction of the pedestal and the look of the device, and the "feel" Sariel can get from it within close contact, the mage concludes that this crystal orb was probably a simple magical device used for communication. One may place their hand on the sphere, and reach out telepathically to someone else "on the other side," where ever that may be. This allows for two-way communication with someone else who has access to a similar device, though the ritual that creates this effect only connects a certain two orbs, so it is not possible to reach out to just anyone.

Sariel folds her arms. "So guys, this is a communications device, and we can use it to talk to whoever's on the other side... so whoever the Manipulator was just talking to. What do?"

"I doubt they'd be anybody we'd want to talk to. Not without being close enough to punch them, anyway."

Myn shakes his head slightly. "If there's a chance that we might learn something, it seems to me that we should at least try to use it."

"... Just go ahead and do it."

When Sariel places her hand on the orb, it becomes slightly warm to the touch, and the colors that constantly swirl within become more intense and swirl at a more rapid rate. In a few seconds, Sariel hears a rather demanding masculine voice in her head: "Who in the hells are you?! What have you done with Largan?!"

Sureiya and Michael had over to the eastern door, with Torinn backing them up. The door itself is pretty much the same as the one opposite it--there are no traps on it that you can see.

Sariel sighs, then telepathically returns, "I believe it would be most proper if you'd identify yourself first... as for me, I'm merely an unlucky passerby who happened to get into a disagreeable encounter with your compatriots down here.

"I was hoping their allies would be more willing to speak before drawing weapons; I do so hate bloodshed." I wonder if he knows there's more of us here?

"Yes? Well, you may be surprised as to how few 'unlucky passerbys' we encounter inside a tower that has been sealed and guarded against all intrusion by automatons!" the "voice" on the other end of the crystal ball replies in a rather agitated voice. "This tower belongs to the followers of the Sacred One! If you are not one of us, you will be destroyed should you attempt to proceed any further!"

Sariel shrugs, belatedly realising the other probably would miss the import of the gesture. Not being able to see, and all.

"Oh? I have it on good authority you're trying to actually subjugate the dragon of this tower here, now."

Sariel turns to the rest of the party and says softly to Myn and Bern, "These guys are all ready to declare holy war on us or something. You guys aren't opposed to cleansing this tower of morons, are you?"

Regardless of answers, she continues telepathically, "So alright, how would I go about becoming 'one of you'?"

"What? You expect me to believe such a story? Where is Largan? What have you done with him?!" the voice demands rather aggressively. "And what of Galarhigg, the mighty one?!"

The shaman gestures to the warlock's companion imp.

Myn blinks once, lightly grabbing the imp hovering near his shoulder and dangling it in the center of the group.

"Certainly, this thing possesses the art of invisibility, although sustained use should be impossible. I would surmise that it should be sufficient for a brief task of surveillance."

Torinn squints at the tiny imp, "Perhaps, if it knows how to do the task and relay what it has seen. Does it talk?"

The imp isn't too happy about being grabbed, and it squirms and chirps in an annoyed-sounding tone at the warlock.

Myn waves the imp back and forth in the air briefly.

"However, our communication will likely be nonsensical to the ears of others."

The imp's chattering becomes more intense, and it flails its limbs about in resistance to the warlock's efforts.

She watches as her spirit briefly attempts to infuse the imp, though it would appear that the imp has little use for combat.

"Eh?" the rabble replies, looking a bit nervous, with one arm tucked behind his head. "Wh-what did you have in mind?" he asks, while slowly walking back into the larger room.

The former cultists scratches his head and says, "I could... but I don't think they'd buy it, coming from me. Maybe if it was the dragon or Largan... heck, I doubt they even know my name, and I'd rather keep it that way, so they don't have reason to come after me later."

"We've yet to receive a clear answer. What does the cult of the dragon do, and why is it so secretive?"

"We should have just not touched the orb at all. Now we've lost the element of surprise it seems. I'm going to check out what is behind that door while you all decide."


Open door on east side of room

"You're asking the wrong person... I'm not really that good with words. But I'll try to give you a basic overview..." the cultist stammers. "We--they follow the prophecy of the archmage Sammaster, who predicted that Faerun would once prosper under the eternal rule of undead dragons. Already, dragons rise to prominent positions all over Faerun... or so the rumors say. Never actually seen any evidence of that myself. Anyway, the cult followers are spreading to major cities in order to locate dragons and offer them eternal life in undeath. If they refuse, they are subjugated. They remain secretive because their goals and methods are not exactly sanctioned by most civilized areas... not everyone is willing to rally behind undead dragons, even if they are told that they will be forced to eventually either way."

Meanwhile, Michael opens the door to the east, revealing a small room just past a short passage. The room has another decorative rug, and a low ceiling, but is filled with four bookcases. This room appears to have been ransacked, as the bookcases are nearly empty and there are books and loose paper scattered all over the floor. Nothing else seems to be within the room.

"Moving on. Other than the dragon, is there anyone or anything else in the tower for us to be aware of?"

"Well, if I had to guess, they've probably set up some traps up ahead," the once-cultist explains. "Also, many of us came here, though Largan over there," he indicates the dragonborn, "was the highest-ranking aside from the Wearer of Purple and Kollirtza, the undead dragon. I imagine they're up near the top of the tower, where they said the metal dragon was likely to be. Galvang, Hallvan... Halvangh, I think they said the dragon's name was?"

"This 'Wearer of Purple' may hold the other crystal orb. Would you tell us of his role?"

"The Wearer of Purple... I don't know his name, but he's the leader of this cell of the cult. He'll be the one that performs the ritual to bind the dragon... Kollirtza is just here to watch over things," the human goes on.

Sureiya: (Perception): There appear to be no other living creatures in the room, and no traps that you can find. The only notable contents of the room are the bookshelves themselves, the stools, and the mess of books and papers scattered over the ground. Many of the pages are torn, as if someone had ransacked the place and removed important information from the books on the ground. The loose pages are trampled and dirty, but there might be a few of value if someone skilled in reading the languages they were written in was present. Several of the texts were written using the Dethek script, others using Thorass script, mostly a collection of common and giant. However, some are in a language you do not recognize, yet the symbols bear a vague resemblance to the runes you have seen on the many magic circles you have encountered as of late.

Overhearing from the other side of the room that it's worse as previously fought, Michael hope what's left of these books can be salvaged to help them. Seeing that Sureiya might see something he doesn't, he decides to ask,"So, ranger, anything you can tell of what's left here?"

"Geez, those guys sure went crazy here.
Apparently they started removing information from a lot of books. There are a few I can't read."
Sureiya now take a few books of those language he can't recognize and show them to the Cavalier.
"Hey, can you read any of this?"

While Torinn is able to recognize a scant few of the writings as draconic, it is actually Sariel that recognizes most of them--these arcane symbols are the kind that are used in ritual books.

Sariel, with a flick of her ghost hand, pilfers the books with the runic writing, placing them in her arms rather than the Dragonborn's.

"Ritual books," she mentions, by way of clarification, eyeing them curiously. "Also, if we're done here, let's kick some wacky cultists out of our tower."

Sariel hands Torinn one of the books, the one with the most draconic runes, and continues actively studying whatever else she has with the gusto of an Eladrin out on a mission etc because otherwise no one'll continue.

Sariel quickly determines that these pages are incomplete, and of little value on their own. However, there could be more back in the room that Sureiya did not pick up, though a more thorough search of the room and the bookshelves would be required.

From the draconic writings, Torinn can also notice that they are mostly incomplete, and appear to be historical recordings. They tell bits and pieces of the history of Faerun.

Smiling at the shaman, Myn walks over to the base of the stairs, relinquishing his grasp on the book imp and depositing it in the air in front of him.

"Carefully scout the area ahead. Make sure not to miss anything."

"Much less interesting than the tales I'm used to," Torinn murmurs.

"Sureiya, try to find more books like this," Sariel mentions to the Half-Orc. "Let's just take our time for measured appropriate action rather than rushing in like humans are wont to do."

Torinn sighs, "I guess I should look too." He heads into the room to gather all the pages written in draconic, then reads what he can.

Sureiya search for more books related to ones he showed to Sariel, using the cavalier as translator.

Torinn doesn't find much of interest in the draconic texts--they appear to be almost exclusively histories. However, together, Sureiya and Torinn find a number of pages containing the arcane writings they saw before. It appears that some of these might have actually have been scrolls, rather than books.

While most of them are clearly torn in such a way that renders them completely unusable, there should be at least a handful of useful scrolls in here, should a learned eye get a look at them.

"Hmm? These don't look like books, they look like... scrolls?"

Torinn brings his findings to Sariel, "Can you make anything from this?"

Sariel takes the material Torinn brings her, studying them before deigning to give an answer.

Some of the pages are pages from a ritual book, and contain actual usable rituals--though only two seem complete enough to use, one being comrade's succor, and the other being knock. However, Sariel would need an extended rest to study these rituals and copy them to her book.

There are three usable scrolls, however--two scrolls of comrade's succor, and one scroll of hand of fate.

The other texts appear to be histories and studies on nature and magic, though nothing the party regards as new or extremely interesting. The wizard probably keeps the good stuff in a more secure location.

The imp, appearing rather indignant, brushes itself off and turns invisible before fluttering up the stairway.

After a few moments, it returns, and informs the warlock that it passed through some sort of barrier of magical darkness, then observed several levels that were inaccessible from the central stairway, each comprised of railed, circular paths lining the sides of the room. Each of these paths led to several other doors. However, the only path that seemed accessible from the central stairway was one that seemed about halfway up, and went in a single direction to a large set of double-doors. The imp could not quite reach the path, due to being constrained to a mere 100 feet from the warlock.

Myn pokes at the imp upon its return, harassing it briefly about its range constraints.

"...it seems that there's some manner of barrier ahead, although this thing was able to pass through it without trouble. There do not appear to be any more enemies in the immediate vicinity, so I'll go a bit further up to see if I can gain any more information."

Move up to just before the barrier and examine it.
Send book imp to scout invisibly as far as it can from that point.

Sariel sighs and shakes her head.

"Useless, it's all useless," she mentions, casually putting the scrolls in her Bag of Holding, same with the pages.

Actually...

"Hey, guys, get over here for a moment," Sariel says, producing one of the scrolls of Comrade's Succor and commencing the necessary steps to produce its results; preferably activating it once everyone's gathered around her close enough to be affected by the ritual.

Myn has to ascend quite a distance before encountering the "barrier," about 80 feet (16 squares). It appears as a black cloud of sorts that blocks vision from below and makes the elevated walkways on the sides of the tower difficult to see. The imp simply passes through the darkness without incident, and is able to explore as far as the double doors without encountering any enemies or hazards. Of course, the familiar cannot open the doors on its own.

Myn is able to determine that the darkness is a wide, though thin layer of magical darkness that seems to have been created specifically to block sight up the stairs. It is harmless to touch and pass through, however.

Nodding at the spirit, Myn goes back down the stairs to rejoin the rest of the group.

"The barrier ahead doesn't seem to be dangerous in the least."

With Myn finally joining them, Sariel activates the power contained within the scroll.

When Sariel casts the ritual, the party redistributes its vitality in order to replenish the reserves of its more drained combatants.

The double-doors at the top of the stairs seem the most obvious path to continue. Shall the party proceed to them?

Thanks to the Half-wizard ritual, the orc feels much better than a while ago.
"So guys, you have your ranger back. Should we go and kick some dragon asses?"

Spending it on the banner, but without hide around its a 13 hp heal, so final hp is 47.

Sariel nods. "Let's stop dawdling and do that."

With gusto, she advances forward, taking the lead like the party leader she is and putting her hands on the doors.

"Ready?"

Michael merely nods and draws his sword and shield at the ready. Luckily he remembered to pick up his banner earlier.

After a considerable number of pauses in her drawn-out ascent, the shaman arrives at the door. She isn't in any condition to speak.

Someday I'll erase this character trait.

Torinn tries to lead Rutger up the spiral staircase, but it proves impossible. Sighing, the dragonborn dismisses the horse for now, which vanishes into a fog, before heading up with the others.

Myn ascends the stairs as well, patting the shion on the back when he reaches the door.

The party ascends the stairs, passes the magical darkness without incident, and begins to gather on the walkway in front of the set of double-doors.

These doors have a more intricate design than the previous sets, and do not appear to have a handle to open. You may need to push inwards on them to open. There are a number of designs traced in the hard, off-white, marble-like material they are carved from, with the designs themselves generally of geometric shapes, colored gold and silver.

Sureiya gets near to the door, and try his best to hear what's on the other side.

Sureiya thinks for a moment that the door is just like the others in the dungeon thus far--but then feels something "off" about the design on the door. It's quite possible that this is actually some sort of warding trap... it should be disrupted before entry is attempted.

It is necessary to make a Thievery check in order to attempt to disable the ward. A successful hard DC Arcana check will provide an Aid Another bonus to Sureiya, but otherwise, Aid Another is not permitted for characters not trained in Arcana or Thievery.
Be warned that a failed attempt will certainly activate the trap.

With the aid of the wizard and warlock, Sureiya is able to skillfully chip away at the warder trap and open the door.

What is revealed on the other side is more of the same architecture that you should be quite familiar with in this tower: solid, off-white walls, a fairly high ceiling, and brilliant illumination. There are some fancy rugs on the ground, are per the usual, but this particular room appears to be in as much upheaval as the previous study you entered.

There are a good many wooden bookshelves that are of superior craftsmanship (perhaps dwarven or high elven), and many of them are still filled with a decent amount of books, though they are not nearly full as the majority of the books are now scattered on the floor. Several of the rugs also appear to have been taken off the floor and cast aside, as if this room was ransacked in a hurry. You cannot see all of the room from your current position, though it is quite quiet inside.

Sureiya sees and hears nothing of consequence.

Though the shaman has somewhat recovered, her elemental companion curiously looks warier than usual, occasionally glancing from one bookcase to the next... The shaman walks inside in the spirit's place, lifting and examining each rug for anything suspicious.

Bernkastel's search of the rugs doesn't reveal anything of interest, but once further inside, she is able to see three arcane circles to the north, and another one of the strange stone formations with glowing panels and arcane designs that you saw before--another "arcane control panel."

In addition, there is a desk with an ever-burning candle resting on it to the east, and a larger reading area near the magic circles. The entire area appears tossed and in disarray.

Leaving the books to the arcanists, the shaman walks to the control panel, and attempts to interact with it; her spirits follow closely behind.

Upon accessing the arcane panel, Bernkastel determines that this device has something to do with the nearby magic circles, which are most likely teleportation circles to access other areas of the tower. However, the shaman is unable to activate the circles, and she can't figure out why. Perhaps someone with a bit more arcane knowledge could answer that question...?

Bernkastel is having some difficulty with an unfamiliar concept such as Arcana, but as far as she can tell, the circles are not properly linked to their destination points. However, evidence suggests that this was a working system at some point.

When Myn gets a look at the control panels and the arcane circles, he concludes that the magic that binds the circles to their destination points has been forcibly disrupted. Perhaps someone didn't want anyone from below navigating the tower.

There is more information on the control panel, however. It suggests that there are multiple paths out of this library, though none are readily apparent to you.

While the warlock fiddles with the device, Torinn goes through the books on the floor to see if there's any he can understand. Surely the previous occupants didn't take everything important with them, did they?

Torinn and Sureiya search the books, and mostly find them to be a collection of studies on common arcane practices, along with a few more histories. The languages they are written in mostly include common, Chondathan (a common language for people of the west), and Giant. There are a scarce few Draconic texts as well. There's nothing really ground-breaking or interesting amongst the books, certainly no ritual books or scrolls like you found before.

It could be possible to derive more information from the panel. It suggests that there is a trigger device for another exit somewhere in this room.

She and her spirits move to the desk with the everburning candle, checking for anything out of the ordinary.

The ever-burning candle appears to be functionally the same as an ever-burning torch, though in the form of a candle. A quick inspection of the desk shelves reveals nothing significant.

In one of the bookcases on the eastern side of the room, the shaman notes a suspicious-looking "slot" in the back of the shelf, that looks like it was made to fit an especially large book. It's not a very obvious depression, and took some real searching to find.

A few seconds later, Sureiya calls her attention to an oddly-shaped, large book that was strewn on the floor in the middle of the room, and it doesn't take a genius to put two and two together.

"I think that goes here."

Taking the book, the shaman puts the two suspicious findings together.

When the psionic shaman puts the large book into the "slot," it seems to fit rather snugly and there is a cling sound from behind the bookshelf, followed by the sound of stone rubbing stone as a section of the off-white wall behind the desk moves aside, revealing a narrow, hidden passage that leads into a small room. The only thing in the room you can see from here is a rug and a small chest.

Torinn strides forward into the newly revealed room, making the minimum amount of effort to check for traps and ambushes.

When Torinn moves into the small room, he is not assaulted by any traps or hazards, at least not immediately. Instead, he sees a number of chests lying on the ground, and a large vase-like container on the right wall. The chests do not appear to be locked. A small brazier sitting on the ground illuminates this area, though not with actual fire--it seems more similar in function to an ever-burning torch or sunrod. To the north is a small, enclosed stairwell, leading upwards.

Torinn prods the smallest chest with his boot, as though he expects it to bite his fingers off.

Torinn and Sureiya are the first two up the stairs. They find themselves in a very small room, devoid of much of anything other than the stairs down, and a lantern hanging from the top of the low ceiling (only about 15' up).

In front of them to the north is what appears to be a solid wall, though it "shimmers" faintly, as if it's not real stone. Torinn can just barely feel air passing in from the other side as well, and the sound of the adventurers' own footsteps echoes farther than it should.

Since it seemed to work before, Torinn prods at the wall with his boot.

Torinn's foot passes through the wall like it wasn't even there.

Torinn stumbles, then shakes his head.

"There's a wall up here that seems to be some sort of illusion."

To be sure, he crouches down and sticks his head through to try and see the other side.

What Torinn sees on the other side of the wall appears to be another small room, with a short flight of stairs leading down to the south, and a hanging candle high up on the wall. This room's ceiling is a bit higher than the one you are in, about 20', and a stone door similar to the others you've seen in the tower marks an exit to the west.

Torinn ignores the door and walks over toward the stairs to catch a glimpse of whatever might be below.

Sureiya pass as well and derp a bit around.

Torinn doesn't have to move far to assess the room's full layout. There is only a very short set of stairs leading down a about 5 feet to what appears to be some sort of arcane circle. This one, however, is not glowing like the others, and is perhaps inactive.

"Sariel, we need some technical info here. The evil magic circle doesn't works."

Sariel heads upstairs as well, passing through the wall like the others have using her powerful sixth sense for magics or something; and somehow manages to hear Sureiya calling her, too. It's magic.

"Don't look at me for evil magic," she mumbles.

"Alright alright, just give it a check."

"Evil magic?"

Myn also walks up the stairs, smiling as he crouches to examine the circle.

Myn: (Arcana) This appears to be another teleportation circle. Going by the runes inscribed herein, you are quite sure that it is linked to the circles you saw before, that were not functioning. The magic here is somehow suppressed--as if it was disabled from elsewhere in the tower. It would be possible to reactivate it if you possessed dispelling magic, or perhaps defeated the being that placed the warding spell (some might call it a curse) on this circle.

The group slowly gathers in the upper room, and Myn examines the arcane circle.

With Sureiya's aid, the shaman checks the door for traps, but finds nothing; she blames all those stairs.

As the shaman intend to open the door, Sureiya prepare himself to tackle any nearby enemy.

Once the group has moved to a safe distance, the shaman conjures a Mage Hand to open the door from as far away as she can manage.

When Bernkastel presses the crystal in the center of the door with her conjured psychic hand, the door slides into the lowered bit of cieling, revealing a narrow passage that appears to open into a larger room ahead. There is a large magical brazier here providing illumination.

"Alright, lets get the shit done"

Before Sureiya heads down the hall, he notices what appears to be several bits of the ground beneath that are separate from the rest, the outlines of square-shaped panels just barely visible in the smooth, off-white floor beneath him. They seems as though they'd press down if stepped on by a creature of sufficient mass.

In addition, there are two similar panels in the ceiling at the end of the hall (the ceiling here is about 5 squares/25 feet high, and the two panels are at L/M-4).

Dungeoneering to guess at what kind of traps these might be. A DC10 Athletics check will allow you to jump over a square without triggering the pressure plate. The DC increases if you must jump over multiple squares. You could also attempt to disable the pressure plate with Thievery if you are adjacent to the plate, though it's a separate check for each plate.

Once the door is open, the shaman turns to the warlock; in particular, she gestures to the imp.

Relaying what he learned about the circle to the rest of the group, Myn cheerfully tosses his familiar forward into the hallway, directing it to investigate the area ahead.

"Abort mission, there's something here."
"Guys, these cultists love their traps. There are some strange plates on the ground just a few meters from here. Also, I can barely see something strange on the ceiling about the end of the hall. I could try to remove the panels, but it would be nice if we could know what they do."

Myn's imp invisibly zips past the floor panels, and out into the room. It sees a number of bookshelves, a ladder, and a rug on the ground, leading up to a large set of double-doors. The imp quickly returns and relates this information back to the warlock in their secret language.

The elemental spirit stares when the ranger describes the distance.

With the Shaman aid, Sureiya inspect the traps in silent, he wonders if her spirit is good for the job, though.

Sureiya thinks this is a common setup for an automated crossbow trap--the floor panels trigger the activation of automated crossbow turrets that are hidden in panels in the ceiling, which descend a short distance and fire upon invaders. The traps are capable of magically distinguishing between friend and foe. Of course, there could be other traps, but the combination of ceiling panels and floor-activated pressure plates indicates this is the trap at work here. The only curious thing to note is the large number of pressure plates.

"Alright, apparently that thing on the ceiling can shoot arrows if we step on the plates, but removing them is probably not that difficult. Should we give it a try? Although we could just simply jump over them ..."

As Sureiya leaps over the pressure plates and presses himself against the wall, he hears the sound of heavy breathing from several creatures in the other room. The breathing sounds raspy and unnatural. From the patterns, the ranger can keenly identify at least three different creatures positioned at various points in the room.

At this point, I'll ask you to post what you have in your hands as far as weapons/implements/shields goes, and you can reposition yourselves slightly and within reason--only Sureiya has made the checks necessary to bypass the pressure plates. We'll be acting in Initiative order after you all post such information.

Unfortunately, this distraction is enough such that the half-orc loses track of the other creature he was aware of to the north-east.

Sureiya leans forward and peers into the room, listening for anything suspicious. The ranger's keen hearing detects the presence of a few other creatures in addition to the three he already knew of, hiding behind the various bookshelves in the darkness. He also detects two additional pressure plates in the middle of the room, and a large section of the floor appears separated from the rest--a clear sign of some sort of pit trap.

Unfortunately, the half-orcs attempt at thievery sets off one of the sets of pressure plates, and two panels in the wall in the primary room open, revealing a pair of turrets surely soon begin firing on the invaders.

The dragonborn moves out front and activates his magical sword, illuminating the surroundings with light. He then adopts a defensive stance.

From behind the northeast bookcase emerges an undead cultist in somewhat ragged-looking clothing, carrying a rod and smelling of death. It is so wrapped in ragged robes and a tattered cloak and in such advanced decay that it is difficult to tell what kind of humanoid it was in life, but it is about the size of a smaller human. This ghoulish creature calls out in a raspy voice, "Now, attack, my brothers, and feast on the flesh of the living!" With this, the monstrosity points its rod towards the clustered adventurers and conjures a choking cloud of grave dust, imbued with unholy energies that sear the warlock, the psionic shaman, and the mage quite severely, though Michael manages to avoid the worst of it. The cloud lingers, threatening further harm. From the darkness, a lightning-fast undead figure rampages out, heading directly for the eladrin, and pounces towards the mage. However, Sariel deftly evades the creature's lunge, and it springs back, looking quite annoyed. This creature is one of the undead Sureiya saw before--spindly, lithe, and more beast-like than humanoid, though still vaguely human-sized. It crouches rather than standing tall, as if it could pounce at any moment. From the darkness, there is a stir as the shaman feels her anomaly affect the mind of an unseen foe, though it slips out of all of their senses shortly thereafter.

The two lurking ghasts emerge and charge down the mage and shaman, each of them biting viciously into their targets at the end of their rush. The two humanoid girls feel a chill run through their bodies and freeze them in place as they tear free of the ghastly bites of the undead creatures. Both are looking in pretty bad shape.

Torinn advances and uses total defense, gaining a +2 bonus to all defenses.

Despite her present condition, the shaman remains cool under fire and conjures her spirits to attend to healing, then moves them into positions before dispersing their powers to great effect--the elemental spirit first catches the adept off-guard with a staggering forceful blow, then the companion spirit scorches it with a searing flame, which exposes it to further fiery attacks. In the same motion, it imbues the weapons of the nearby paladin and ranger with fire, which Sureiya immediately puts to good use in cutting bloody wounds in the caster, who now appears quite wounded.

One of the hidden ghouls leaps from its hiding place and slams the unsuspecting half-orc to the ground. Sureiya finds himself in quite the bind as he is pinned down to the ground, unable to escape unless he can first shake this ghoul off him, and the ghoulish enemy is now brandishing the knife it is holding threateningly...

All that Sureiya knows about these ghoul flesh-seekers is that they are lurkers, preferring to strike from an unseen position when attacking. They're not all that hardy, though, being only level 4. Once in the open, they should be a simple matter to take down. Sureiya has never seen a spellcaster like the adept.

Sariel huffs from the pain she's received, scanning the conjurative zone with her probing magics to determine its secrets.

Sariel's attempt at detecting magic only identifies the properties of the zone of grave dust the adept created--a magical, swirling void of dust that is infused with necrotic energy, that will disperse under the normal conditions for such magical zones.

The mage creates an illusionary zone of horrifying shadows, which can only be seen by two of the ghasts (the ghoul is not fooled by the illusion). These shadows claw at the ghasts and tear at their limbs, making them believe for a short time they are too wounded to move quickly.

However, Sariel can't escape the dust, which saps at her life-force even as she creates a speck of light in the distance.

Sariel identifies the grave dust zone, which deals necrotic damage to creatures that end their turns in the zone. It will disappear after about five minutes or when the caster that created it dies.
Sariel's grasping shadows misses the ghoul flesh seeker but hits both ghasts for 12 psychic damage and they are slowed until the end of Sariel's next turn.

The dragonborn shifts up and hefts his blade, spearing the cultist with divine light before slicing it in half with a blazing attack.

Torinn reels back and breaths lightning over the gathered undead before turning on the adept and striking him down with a mix of fire and radiance. All of the undead are threatened now, and the last hidden flesh-seeker scratches futility at the dragonborn's plate, trying to pin him down but failing.

One of the ghasts attempts to disembowel the psionic shaman, suffering Torinn's radiance, but Sariel quickly teleports the offending undead away, wherein its devouring bite ends up taking a chunk out of a ghoul. The fall then suddenly falls out from beneath this ghast, and it barely leaps away before it gives way to a pit of bubbling acid.

The other ghoul attempts to bite the shaman as well, but fails, suffering holy judgment in turn.

The half-orc is still pinned down and staring a ghoulish figure in the face, however.

A shattering of dimensions later, one of the ghasts plummets into the pit of bubbling stuff; the spirits then reappear, aiding allies through the conjuration.

With a fiery burst, the shaman tries to blast three of the undead into the newly-formed pit. Two of them manage to hang on, but one is looking like it will just fall over with another attack, and the tough ghast is teleported high over the pit, which it then unceremoniously falls into, landing in the bubbling acid with a splash and an accompanying scream.

The ghoul, seeing no other options, claws at Torinn and manages a lucky hit (perhaps the dragonborn over-extended himself earlier?), chilling the paladin enough so that it cannot move. The crossbow turret also fires a shot, which plugs the cavalier in the shoulder.

Bernkastel's dimensional scramble hits ghast 1, ghoul flesh-seeker 2, and ghoul flesh-seeker 3 for 12 fire damage and attempts to teleport them a distance. The flesh-seekers save against being teleported into a hazardous area, but the ghast does not, and it falls and takes 17 falling damage.

Sariel conjures her winged horde of bees, wasps and other nasty insects to lay siege to the bastions of sanity that are assaulting the Paladin and his compadres.

After all, if she can't brutalise their bodies, she'll brutalise the minds. No better destruction than that of someone's mental faculties; her master had taught her well in that respect.

The other ghast, placed under the swordmage's aegis, moves over to the mage and bites down hard on the eladrin's slender arm.
