Don't worry Peas, you'll always be welcome here, no matter how long you've been sitting in the back of the icebox causing you to become stricken with freezerburn and nigh inedible.

Though speaking of vegetables, this was a glorious week for them if I've ever seen it. Corn on the cob happens to be one of my favorite things, and I was able to eat it all week, seeing as I came across this place selling them in bundles of 8 for $2.00. Two dollars! That's less than 30 cents an ear! I hope you've been keeping up with your nutrition, don't want half your liver to melt.

I,I-I never directly claimed it was a vegetable! I just arbitrarily felt like mentioning what a spectacular week it was for a decidedly under-appreciated food group, and afterwards coincidentally found myself compelled to concurrently expatiate on my completely unrelated fortuitous discovery. To be perfectly honest, i'm not especially interested in the plot as of right now, so I think i'll be waiting for the full version. Demos as a whole kind of annoy me anyway though, the reason being that if they do pique my interest, it becomes that much harder to wait for the final release. Rest assured though, I will read the full version assuming i'm not buried in busywork at the time.

Well, I don't blame you. I'd say that it wouldn't be much longer until the full version is out, but our team has randomly decided to work on other projects on a whim. At least I don't feel the pressure of getting anything else released any time soon. Comiket was a goal to shoot for, but I'll be honest in saying that it's not likely to happen.

Also, the last time we talked I was about to leave for AX. I'll have to fill you in on all the details, as it really was quite an adventure.

Well, it involved me trying to give something to my friends for my birthday, and then me overworking myself trying to get it done stressing myself out psychically and mentally. So when I cancelled it early afternoon of my birthday I felt like a huge weight was lifted off of me, and I just suddenly fell asleep a minute or two later. Thus missing all the rest of my birthday, aka my special dinner I picked out, cake, presents, etc.

As for how I've been, that would a long story, and most of which I've already posted on seacats, so I'll just tell you sometime I see you on yahoo, they will probably be more to the story by then too.

So you're a secondary too, huh? I wouldn't have expected that. Personally, I care a whole lot more about the actual Umineko.

Fangames are fun, but I like them most when they most tie into the real thing. That's why I mention all these little hooks in the story that could serve as a good basis for gameboards. I have a lot of tricks stored up that are lifted directly from the material of the main episodes, but are never put into practice.

I have the most fun hosting games, but I'm too lazy for it. And when I do it, I want to do it well. But I can't outdo the games others have made in the past, so I don't really try. It's a bit arrogant, I suppose. Plus, everyone is too experienced these days. In Umineko itself, Battler starts off as an easy challenged opponent, and even the slightest things trip him up. Plus, he creates his own restrictions on the game by refusing to doubt his family, and things like that. Meta actually did something similar in our original game. Apparently, he would never finger someone outside the original 17 as a culprit. He would rather forfeit before doing that. And so, if you used a person X as a culprit, he would exhaust every single possibility he could before arriving at that conclusion.

Well, regardless, I've been thinking about maybe hosting a game, but it might be a little too late.

Wouldn't have expected that? I'm going by what Lion said as well. For example, me, Ozaki, Rosa, and Rudolf all became 'seacats' when the IB4F site was up. Thus, we are second generation. And coincidentally, we enjoy playing the gameboards (more than discussing the original, it seems).

Not to say that I dislike the original. But it's essentially a one-trick pony (no pun intended). Once you find Shkanontrice everything makes sense, and it's all resolved now. Sure, back when there was room to theorized I truly enjoyed doing it, but I can't do that anymore. The only way I can still make theories is through fangames (although I have more fun creating fangames for others to theorize about).

I have to admit, though, you really do pay attention to the stories. As you said, you do find all these little "hooks" that would make good fangames. I remember looking back through the threads of my first two games, and noticed you were incredibly observant with those as well, picking up on things even I had forgotten. I also enjoyed seeing those screencaps of Umineko recently, it really is painfully obvious when you look back at it.

Also, what do you mean, it's too late? I think we all would enjoy seeing another of your gameboards. There's not much activity going on in /gameboard/ right now, anyway, and this place always gets active whenever you or Meta shows up (especially both). Maybe that's just me wishing I'd been around for the /a/ games, though.

I mean it's a bit hard to host a game without continued access to the internet.

However, that might be an interesting twist on things. I'll have a lot of free time, so I could write a game, and then I could pop in whenever I could to deny theories. People would have to be careful with their blues not because they have a limited number or because they can somehow lose, but because if they didn't think too carefully and came up with theories that were bound to be wrong, they'd have to wait a long time to realize.

That's probably wise, I think. Burnout can really have a devastating effect on quality if you let it, I know, so if you need some respite at this point that's definitely alright, especially considering that most of your heavy lifting seems to done already. I'd rather you take your and really ensure the final product's polished anyway, I'd hate to see you sabotage yourself because you felt obligated to finish in a certain time period. It's not like you've ever given out an official release date anyway, so nobody's going to berate you for taking extra time. On that topic, were you ever able to find someone for that movie, or is that more something you've resigned to impossibility at this point? I'm curious, because you've mentioned it a couple of times on your website.

And I saw that AX photo album you posted in image. Deat god was that a lot of files, you really must've been busy down there. I couldn't believe that even Bern decided to go; that isn't something I would have expected from her at all. I actually read EPs 1 and 2 before finding this site, then most of 3, 4, and 5 from various different streams. Plus the hilarious machine-translated streams that started popping up on /jp/ after a while, but at that point it was only to laugh at it. Once the actual translation was out I read whichever EP was the one with the long, boring backstory followed by Will's whole “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust” scene or whatever it was. After the Teaparty/???? of that EP I just gave up on the whole thing.

I remember several threads of people trying to crack the Witch's Epitaph, and the whole Kuwadorian = Quadrillion thing as well. Originally I was one of the people who didn't want to believe the whole ShKanontrice nonsense because I wanted to believe there would actually be a logical and reasonable solution to the mystery. So much for that. Not that it's even worth anything at this point, but Kyrie was always the one I had pinned as the most likely culprit with Rudolf as a possible accomplice.

Episode 7. One of my favorites, actually.

That reminds me, I'm been wondering about how the adults all stack up in intelligence.

I've been thinking something like this:
Kyrie
Eva
Rosa
Krauss
Rudolf
Natsuhi

I don't know where to place Hideyoshi. Normally, people make fun of Krauss's intelligence, but Rudolf doesn't do anything particularly clever, while Krauss is at least able to stand up against the parents in some of their schemes. All Rudolf seems to do is sit back and ask Kyrie for advice, or follow what Eva's doing.

I agree. After perusing the lemmasoft forums for a bit, I was actually pretty surprised to see that most of the producers there don't even seem to give the idea a passing thought. I realize that those are primarily hobbyist projects though, and there's no denying an OP is something that takes a massive amount of resources and time to realize. Moreover, if the result is less than satisfactory, or looks amateurish, it could have a heavily detrimental effect on how the VN is perceived. If you're still planning on this being a commercial project though, I'd stress that having an OP of appreciable quality really would do wonders for your professional image.

I'd actually put Krauss above Rosa, but this depends what we mean by “intelligence”. While Krauss can sometimes be a bit idiotic, he was at least smart enough to make a lot of money, even if he did end up squandering most of it. That's my impression from what I remember, anyway.
Hideyoshi I'd probably have put somewhere around or above Rudolf, I guess.
Kyrie was a character I liked, because she was smart and competent. I only remember basing it on first impressions, but from what she seemed to know and the things she always seemed to be hiding, she was prime suspect material. Rudolf being dumb muscle had it make sense for him to be an accomplice in that scenario.

I guess I just realized too late that Umineko wasn't really the sort of story I was looking for after all. Any parts involving Ange would've put me to sleep were it not for Amakusa to make those scenes less boring, and that whole dull backstory in EP 7 almost made me hold ctrl just to get through it. The mystery was what attracted me to it, and the solution simply wasn't worth the time invested in my opinion.
One other thing I actually did like, though, was young Kinzo's backstory, with the Italians and the gold. I don't remember when I read that or even what EP it was from, only that it was in someone's stream after it had been translated.

>>53925
That's katakana in a nutshell right there. Technically Japanese has a lot of “loanwords” from English which are usually written in katakana, but the difference in pronunciation is so great that the only way to make the original English word sound anything like the Japanese version you need to dumbly slur it over and over in a monotone voice until you finally see the resemblance.

For a long time I intended on making it strictly commercial. However, getting it all set up is more trouble than it's worth, I think.

The current plan is to release it for free and accept donations. I can always make another game commercial if I want money that badly, but the deciding factor in my change of heart was my motive for making the game in the first place -- I'd rather it be for fun than for profit. It just loses everything when the pressure of it being a commercial game is there. I'd rather keep the heart and integrity of the story intact than get too greedy and produce something that seems so fake and contradictory to the moral of the story itself.

That's easy to set up, actually. BMTMicro etcetera. Their best plan (imo) allows you to sell games for as low as $4 and you get $3 profit for each copy sold.

Nihihi─ You could try Steam for a much better offer, but I think chances there are slim. Since you're three people (Kinjo, Butt, Gogo, right?) that's $1 for everyone for each copy sold, nyeh.

I know some people have said they ctrl'd through it, but I don't see why. It's the culprit's backstory, and it explains the birth of Beatrice. I couldn't possibly find it boring. I liked the usage of music, too.

As for Krauss, as Kinzo puts it, he throws away two coins to obtain one and deludes himself into thinking he's earned money. I believe he's only still afloat because he embezzles Kinzo's funds, and even then he's in a perilous situation. While Kinzo revived the Ushiromiya fortune, it seems Krauss drove it back into the ground.

Speaking of embezzling, the siblings accuse Krauss of this, and blackmail him. Kanon reports their discussion to Kinzo. Kinzo then mocks how Krauss has been cornered by his siblings, and belittles the way Krauss turned the situation around on them. He gives no indication that he is upset or even curious about the suspicion that Krauss is embezzling his fortune. Why?

In episode 3, it is directly stated that Krauss is in fact doing so, so to the reader, it's no longer just a possibility. And Kinzo should know of the possibility due to these reports, you'd think he'd want to investigate it. You'd think he'd want to stop it to give Krauss what he deserves. You'd think he'd be outraged. You could argue that he no longer cares for such things and is going to have his whole family killed promptly anyway, but it's strange he doesn't at least comment on it.

I would if this could also have been a clue that he was dead. There's no longer anyone left to complain about their funds being embezzled. Well, apparently, fans had caught on to the fact by episode 3, since Ryuukishi07 stated that his decision to prematurely reveal it in episode 4 was in response to them. So I guess it's not strange that it was obvious in 3.

Ah sorry, my mistake. As for the exigent matter of sibling power levels, I was going to write a lengthy post about it, but it really just boils down to what john said about defining intelligence. Depending on how you look at it, I think there could be a bit of variation, especially towards the bottom of the rankings, but in the context of most of the more popular theories, save a few specific ones regarding multiple intelligences, I think it's pretty safe to say that Kyrie's the undisputed winner.

As a part of an anti-bullying program, you have access to your students social networks profiles and messages, public as private.
It deal with a lot of things about relationships, homosexuality, and moreover, privacy. It was plain weird but certainly interesting.

Beatrice finds killing fun because it allows her to break the greatest taboo. Because she can just revive people, it's fine to kill them over and over again, right?

That's exactly how episode 3 explains it. Multiple times.

Of course, Beatrice doesn't really have any power like that. So you could take that to mean she doesn't really enjoy killing, if you like.

I'm saying that because Yasu is a normal human that doesn't have the powers Beatrice is supposed to, she doesn't have the same reason to enjoy killing. So maybe she doesn't.

The story of episode 3 can get a little forced like that. For instance, Virgilia is killed by Beato early on, and she says afterwards that, like Meta-Battler, she's a piece removed from the gameboard who can't interact with it. Despite this, she steps in to sacrifice herself for Beato's place when EVA-Beatrice tries to kill her. Immediately prior to this, it's explained by Virgilia that she's is still alive because Beato wants her to be alive, but Beato at this point has such little power that she expends a huge amount of effort to revive one person.

Later in the debate against EVA-Beatrice, everyone starts saying that Battler has a time limit to solve her mysteries, when this hadn't ever been stated before, and such a thing is only ever introduced in episode 4 as part of the rule for the blue truth. The time limit is never seriously adhered to though, here or in any other later episodes. There's also the part where EVA-Beatrice argues that she used magic to force Kyrie to go to the mansion for food, even though Kyrie didn't actually want to. That itself isn't strange, but when Battler tries to argue against it, he's told that he actually needs to provide evidence to back up his claims for any other possible reasons Kyrie could have for going to the mansion, or he loses. However, since at this point the debate is only at an anti-fantasy vs anti-mystery level, Battler doesn't have to explain anything at all, and can just invoke the devil's proof. He does this for something immediately prior, in fact. It's just arbitrarily decided that he must provide evidence for this case in particular, likely just so Beatrice can help him by finding that evidence.

This can all be explained by the fact Beato trolling Battler the whole time.

As for something actually related to the mystery aspect, there's this screenshot. I definitely didn't remember this, and I bet people have made plenty of gameboards unknowingly contradicting it. Theories, too.

Rosa solves the epitaph immediately after Eva, as Eva meets her on the way out of the gold passage.

However, it's not like she had to solve the whole thing. All she needed was to get the key and connect it with the chapel, Eva solved the rest. Rosa would have seen the pulled out letters and the turned lion statue, so she would have known someone beat her to the punch, and just needed to follow their lead. Rosa doesn't have that much of a problem with Eva beating her according to their conversation, but I wonder if this could simply be because she was previously aware of the fact that someone, at least, had.

There's a button to close the entrance from the inside, but Eva doesn't use it because she's concerned its opening mechanism might not work properly, trapping her inside. Really, since she didn't close it, anyone could have just followed her there whether they solved it or not. Rosa makes some comments that imply she knows what the key is, though.

As for Taiwan, it's stated in the episode 3 epitaph discussion that all the siblings at least know that the beloved hometown isn't Odawara, and they all have the same place in mind. They talk about it in general terms in front of Kyrie, who doesn't know, and they probably drop lots of hints to the reader this way. But they most likely don't want Kyrie to know the location, because if she knew it she might solve it herself. The siblings, after the letter turns up, are always concerned that according to its terms, absolutely anyone, even someone unrelated to the family, could earn the headship as long as they solved the epitaph. So while they're usually at odds, they band together in the hopes of preventing anyone other than the four of them getting their hands on anything. I wonder if this extends to Kyrie, though. You would think Rudolf would at least tell her it's Taiwan.

I think episode 7 outright states that all the siblings knew it was Taiwan and Genji gave the same hint to Yasu in order to put her on even footing, though. So it's not very noteworthy.

The sex scene in SAO, is just the author being a lewd pervert and wanting to write a sex scene, and coming up with a pathetic and stupid reason for it. Sex scenes don't make stories great, stories can still be great without them.

He threw in an irrelevant sex scene, that 'sounds' like it adds nothing to the story. (I say sounds, because I have to actually read much of SOA. Obviously my opinion made be false since it is only based on the small amount I've read/watched of SOA, and the knowledge of the sex scene.)

Wrong there are lots of stories people consider good, that don't have a sex scene in them. Even if the possibility is hinted at, actually writing out the scene in detail is different.

I won't deny that there are good stories with sex scenes in them. But a book does not have to have a sex scene to be good. Likewise, having a sex scene in the book does not make it good.

Well sure, other people might consider them good. I guess it's good in some fantasy settings where stuff like that might not exist. But in a realistic story you have to include it or you don't meet that realism.

Complaining about a sex scenes because you think it's unnecessary is like complaining about a scene where a character eats, or drinks, or uses a toilet. Sex is a basic human need, so I don't think it should be treated differently in stories about humans.

Wow. That's a pretty stupid thing to say there Piece. You don't put things in a story simply to feel out the "realism" criteria, I mean, ignoring the obvious example of hundreds of story not made to be realistic, you mean that for a story to be considered plausible you need a sex scene ? Do you think we should had people walking in the street in each story ? The death of pets ? The loss of your first teeth ? Those are everyday things, why wouldn't they be added ?

You don't add sex scenes simply because it happens in everyday life, heck you don't even add anything simply because it happens in life. A scene has to have a point, it may be ridiculous, scandalous, stupid, irrelevant, but you don't write something "simply because it happens all the time", it just becomes pointless and meaningless.

I'm still not sure you're actually serious about this.

Which of those are you calling a lie?

Some people must find me mean if you do, and I'm not psychic. So you must be saying I'm lying about being mean.

Meanness is a matter of perspective. If I don't consider myself mean, then that's a valid opinion on the matter, isn't it?

It wasn't directed at any of those, but you in general.

Well, it might be harder to deny that I am, generally, a liar.

However, isn't everyone?

There was a thread on /jp/ about how some guy misclicked on /cgl/ and he didn't realize for 5 minutes.

I confirmed that this was quite impossible, but not before posting in the weeaboo thread.
