Well, we do make exceptions.
Especially if the individual shows early signs of the second phase dealing with chronic social adversity dealing with social anxiety, quasi-psychotic ideas, and depression. Many measures are taken into account for someone who is within the stage of Psychosis. After all, as psychologists and scientists, if we can find the abnormalities ahead of time, it is best to take preventative action in order for the individual to not take aggressive actions such as self harming and/or harming themselves. I mean, if we waited for the individual to fall into the stages of Dopamine dysregulation stage, usually dealing with environmental factors like drug abuse and stressors, we wouldn't be very good at our job to begin with.
Needless to say, the development cascade towards schizophrenia should be taken seriously to some extent.
If I had to guess, they took precautions to consider you not a worthy case due to other emotional evidence behind your age. Late adolscene might just need to be kept in holding for a while, and it is less expensive than those fmri scans. Not to mention this is two way street for precautions. The wrong diagonsis can land any person into hot water and ruin their reputation. Worst comes to worst, your therapist would start passing your case around like a game of hot potatoe. But either way, rest assured there was most likely a case and that you do have some kind of record with these people now. A safe bet, anyways. I can't tell because I don't have your records, not to mention APA ethical guidelines have a tight hold on that as well.
All in all, they had reasons behind what they told you, though there is truth in what they say.
