It's a calm, almost peaceful night. Almost, as the fires off in the distance betray the presence of the Crown, and its legion of soldiers. Soldiers who, come the morrow, will either lay dead, or have killed you all.

Despite the somber outlook of battle tomorrow, your camp is rife with laughter, many soldiers engaging in dice games, brawling, or otherwise making a fool of themselves.

Well, it can't be helped. You're not exactly regulars of the army, save for a few who are assigned to the Blazing Regiment.

The Ninth Squad, yours, is located under the shade of a large willow tree. Excellent, considering how hot it has been during the days of this week long siege. The envy of many other squads.

Not that you care. You've got a good spot.

Huddled around a midnight camp fire are your allies, companions, and possibly the obnoxious bastards whose presence you can hardly stand.

The psion's scramble provokes an opportunity attack from Hamlet, which damages the psion but not enough to dissuade her from the attack, and she sends herself and Hamlet through a dimensional vortex hole.

Kavakri's scramble provokes an OA from Hamlet, which hits for 6 damage. Kavakri's attack hits for 12 damage, teleporting Hamlet and her both.

"Get over it, you pansy," Paik grumbles, really annoyed by the constant pain in his head. Bloodied and bruised, the rogue hops up and tosses his dagger in the air. Which lands blade-first in Roland's chest, where Paik quickly twists it, causing the Wacht member excruciating pain before he pulls the knife out. Expecting retribution, Paik goes on the defensive.

Paik deals a harsh blow on Roland, seriously sapping the warrior's strength... but still not enough to draw blood.

Just as Paik tries to guard himself, though, Hamlet unleashes a sudden barrier, shoving Paik further away from the caster. It doesn't hurt so much as that it's embarrassing.

Roland, on his part, stands and lashing out with a blazing blade, burning Alexi. He directs Hamlet away a little, creating some space between caster and captain.

Just then, though, one of the eastern walls breaks down! Eflor emerges, wounded somewhat but still standing!

Paik crits Roland for 46 damage.
Paik ends his turn and does not save.
Ending his turn provokes an Immediate Reaction from Hamlet, who uses barrier push and hits Paik for 5 damage in addition to pushing Paik one square.
Roland stands and uses blazing sword, dealing 12 damage to Alexi.
Roland uses Let's Move! and slides Hamlet one square.
Eflor enters initiative.

"Perhapth you need a reminder ath to who the real threat is, vermin!" Alexi yells out, swinging wildly at Roland before snapping out of his daze.

Standard Action: Use grappling strike vs. Roland, 19 vs. AC. Probably doesn't hit, but maybe Astral Seal reduced it enough? On the off chance it hits, 13 damage and I grab him until the end of my next turn.
Mark him with combat challenge, hit or miss.

Alexi does his best to grab Roland, but he doesn't manage to take firm hold of the warrior.

Meanwhile, Hamlet increases the distance between him and Alexi while being mindful of Eflor's presence, his wiry, silvery thread running amok again.

Paik, perhaps due to his existing headache, resists the effects of the spell, but Alexi is less fortunate.

Alexi misses.
Hamlet moves, then uses mindcrusher, missing Paik but hitting Alexi (roll of 33) for 12 psychic damage and Alexi takes ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends).
Hamlet uses inspire movement to move Paik.

The tiny pixie flies over Kavakri's shoulder, and then lightly tosses her miniature dagger at Roland. The attack is quite accurate, striking a surprisingly damaging blow, giving her enough magic to empower the attacks of the nearby psion and rogue.

Move Action: Fly to I-8.
Standard Action: Magic weapon vs. Roland's AC, 11 damage and Kavakri and Paik gain a +1 power bonus to attack rolls and +4 power bonus to damage rolls until the end of Aeir's next turn. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3413461/

Aeir moves and attacks Roland, hitting with ease due to the earlier imposed bane. Kavakri follows up with a mental attack, which drives Roland over the edge, and a fierce aura surrounds him suddenly.

"Oh, not much," Paik responds sarcastically, daggers twirling in his hands as he advances towards Roland. "Just us killing some soldiers and a guy who keeps the roads safe in cold blood." [i]That said, Paik grins at Elfor to silently acknowledge appreciation of his assistance, so he's not particularly irritable. His footwork becomes more random as he slides this way and that way during his advance. His blade dance becomes more intricate as his arms wave about, picking up speed and making it difficult to keep up with their movements. "But they started it, and his skull was surprisingly soft. All of it was an unfortunate, really." As if it would make any difference, he shrugs at Roland in apology, his expression sheepish. But the shrug quickly leads into a sudden sweep of his arm in an attacking motion. The Wacht member's eyes are drawn to it instinctively, except that hand is holding the trusty parrying dagger and whiffs his face in a feint. A brief flinch is all the rogue needs.

Paik's actual attack comes from below, stabbing Roland in the jaw.
"But that one's not an accident, that was on purpose," Paik slurs, dizziness overwhelming him once more as he pulls the dagger from the freshly inflicted wound. "Nothin' pers'nal, tho'."

Eflor charges down Roland, unleashing a powerful combo of blows on the warrior. With obvious effort, Roland manages to remain standing, clinging to some last reserve of energy. He stands there, dazed by the attack, but still ready to fend off enemies.

For Hamlet's part, his expression hardens and it is obvious he is prepared to fight to his death; an unevitable result from the way things are looking.

"Just in time, too," groans a visibly exhausted Paik, who slowly advances upon Roland to strike the finishing blow. His head pounds while blood streams down the side of his face. It was time to put this one out of their misery.

His footwork becomes more random as he slides this way and that way during his movement. His blade dance becomes more intricate as his arms wave about, picking up speed and making it difficult for Roland to keep up with the flashy display. "That's enough," [i]Paik offers as a small reassurance to him,
"Now just sleep," as he stands adjacent to the very nearly dead man. He makes a slash, and the Wacht member's eyes are drawn to it instinctively. Except that hand is holding the trusty parrying dagger and Paik whiffs his face in a feint. A brief flinch is all the rogue needs, though.

Paik's actual attack comes from below, stabbing Roland square between the eyes for a quick death.
"Sorry 'bout alla this, nothin' pers'nal," Paik slurs towards the people who tried to subdue them, even though most of them are dead now. Dizziness overwhelms him once more as he pulls the dagger from the freshly inflicted wound.

"Just in the nick of time, too," Paik says, looking slightly relieved. The battle was that much closer to being finished, and he was one step closer to getting out of this stupid war. Blood streams down his face while he advances on Roland. His daggers spin in his hands and between his fingers, the rogue showing off yet another sleight of hand feat during his movement. He sighs in annoyance, "What a senseless waste of time this all was," he murmurs, making another feint with his parrying dagger. His actual attack comes as quick as lightning when he buries his knife up to the hilt in Roland's forehead, killing him swiftly. "Hope this was worth it to ya. Nothin' pers'nal," he slurs, the adrenaline dying down as his headache wears off. Once again he feels totally out of it.

Well, whatever. Death is cheap. Let somebody else deal with it.

"Just in the nick of time, too," Paik says, looking slightly relieved. The battle was that much closer to being finished, and he was one step closer to getting out of this stupid war. As Alexi feels his strength being sapped away, he decides to make a rather prudent move.

"Preth the athault, comradeth... I feel I mutht make a temporary tactical withdrawal..."

Not too eager to surrender himself to unconsciousness so easily, the fighter darts out of the room, keeping just the cleric in sight, hopeful that this positioning will discourage the psychic from attacking him further. With that, he pauses to recover a bit of his strength.

Move Action: If I can move to D-8 without hurting myself on the brazier, move there. Otherwise, move to D-7.
Standard Action: Use second wind, spending a surge to regain 23 hit points and gain a +2 bonus to all defenses until the start of my next turn.

With a quick swipe and quip, Paik deals with Roland. The knight's broken body plummets to the ground, losing its shape and shifting into a white, featureless creature. It seems obvious now that Roland was a Changeling, rather than human.

While Alexi beats a hasty retreat and finds cover from Hamlet, his allies are not so lucky. The wisp of white streaks past Eflor, who finds a headache growing. Aeir, however, resists the effects of the invasive magic.

Hamlet beats a retreat, towards the wall Eflor'd opened up earlier...

Roland dies.
Alexi spends a healing surge and regains 23 HP.
Hamlet uses mindcrusher, missing Aeir but hitting Eflor for 10 psychic damage, and Eflor takes ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends).
Hamlet moves.
Reiyasu's turn starts and he takes 5 damage, and can heal someone for 19.

Initiative Order
Eflor (30)
Alexi (22)
Hamlet (21)
Reiyasu (19)
Aeir (14)
Kavakri (13)

Players
Reiyasu (E-6) 51/69 HP, ongoing 5 damage (save ends)
Paik (L-16) 13/68 HP, Bloodied, ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends)
Aeir (H-7) 37/75 HP, Bloodied, Dazed until end of next turn
Aeir's Panther (G-8) -1/37 HP, Dead
Kavakri (F-7) 48/60 HP
Alexi (E-11) 26/81 HP, Bloodied, ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends)
Eflor (J-17) 51/81 HP, ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends)

Enemies
Cornelis (F-9) -251 HP, Dead
Hamlet (G-7) -47 HP
Roland (F-8) -280+ HP, Dead
Keep Guard 1 (E-10) Dead
Keep Guard 2 (E-8) Dead

Notes
- You can use History or Nature for knowledge on Cornelis, Hamlet and Roland. Nature for the Keep Guards. History because the Eiserne Wacht is known, so you just need to know these three people. You can only make these checks when you have line of sight to the creature.
- The squares in Cornelis's aura are Difficult Terrain to the party. Enemies ignore this aura. If you leave the aura, you are Slowed until the end of your next turn - if you are Slowed during movement, your movement ends if you already moved 2 squares. If you did not, you may continue moving until you've reached 2 squares, at which point you cease movement. (I believe this is per the rules.)
- Creatures within the zone do not have line of effect to squares outside the zone. Creatures outside the zone ignore the zone. This means Skald's aura is only active within the zone.

"Calm down thief boy. I'm not letting you die here."
Continuing with the self-sacrifice. Reiyasu words revitalize Paik a bit. After doing so, he walks toward his enemy and attempt to curse him "You, didn't I told you than your corpse belonged to me now?" One way or another, Reiyasu cannot concentrate well enough to curse his mortal enemy, and one of his past lifetimes trying to coach him just distract him even more. What the hell a half-orc knows about divine magic!?

No action: Heal paik for 19 hit points
Movement action: Alright, I screwed my whole turn, but for it to work Reiyasu need to move to F-10 and then use a free action to drop prone. At this square Reiyasu can target Hamlet because distance is 7 (5 original + 2 from Symbol of divine reach)
Standard action: Astral seal (miss, also -2 to attack because prone.)

Reiyasu advances forward, flinging himself onto the heap that is Cornelis and Roland's corpses, enabling some perverse and macabre--

Reiyasu advances, hovering over the bodies of Roland and Cornelis, his last adversary too far out of range to really be reached. The rubble path is sadly not permissive enough to allow Reiyasu to get close fast enough. The font of healing oozing out from him at least grants Paik some reprieve.

Kavakri vainly tries to assault Hamlet's mind, but finds his attempts blocked. Aeir grants Eflor the gift of flight, which is swiftly used to close the distance between the warrior and the caster.

The attack is a resounding blow, striking Hamlet hard... but not quite hard enough. The caster retaliates with a swift barrier, but he is unable to repel Eflor.

Reiyasu heals Paik for 19, then fails to reach F-10 because of difficult terrain. Ignoring the prone dropping because it doesn't make sense, attack does not continue, memories of a thousand lifetimes is not expended.
Aeir gives Eflor flight.
Kavakri misses.
Eflor hits for 27 damage: spirit of vice does not function due to not having tHPs.
Hamlet uses an immediate reaction to counter with barrier push but misses.
Alexi takes 10 damage for starting his turn.
