Yes. ..... But no. There were many reports in Brazil that students passed in one of most difficult exams for public university here because they went drunk to the exam.

I think it's because alcohol makes you relaxed etc.

Oha.

I don't like writing dialog either, it's hard. I especially don't like writing all that gesturing stuff that Rin mentioned, like a character bellowed this or said this while grinning evilly. If you do that in third person, it feels like you're telling people how they should perceive the character rather than letting them do it themselves. If I do put in gestures, they have to be neutral, but this makes things repetitive and bland. Because of that, I've written a few things that contain no dialog at all. When I do write in dialog, it tends to take over anything and it becomes difficult to tell who's saying what.

Although, I kind of like that effect. In And Then There Were None, you're not only given dialog with no direct indication of who said it (although there is plenty of gesturing), you're told what each character is thinking at a few points, but you're not told which character is thinking what. Just a series of unlabeled thoughts. In this manner, it becomes clear one of them is thinking about murdering the rest, but you can't say who it could be. You can, however, eliminate some characters if you can recognize their thought pattern as reflective of their dialog. So it becomes its own hint to the mystery.

This is just how I feel when I actually write something, which is pretty much never unless I'm required to. So it's not meant to be advice.
>> No. 60908 edit
>>60907
That's pretty interesting. I have never managed to read And Then There Were None, but I kinda want to get a real copy of it.
As for the descriptions in the dialog, well I disagree. I don't think the descriptions completely force a specific perception of a character, instead they help the reader get his own. If you only write down what each character says then the reader only clues about the characters are their own words and their actions. I think it works fine in that mystery because the point is not to reveal the identity of the culprit, but it could be less effective in other genres.

Now wait, there's a difference between "grinning evilly" and, say, "with a toothy grin." That'd imply stuff like "cackles the witch" is trying to control the reader's thoughts~

I don't think I could ever read and enjoy a story without dialogue. Dialogue is what makes a story interesting~!

Squitcher is writing a mystery, but aside from the clue point, I was talking about all genres, and feel the same way about them. I think their words and actions are enough, and figuring out what their actions actually mean - rather than having them described with some definite adverbs or adjectives - can be interesting in itself. The VN format really does make it easier because you can use facial expressions, without having to describe them in terms that are too blatant, or at all. People have different ideas of what certain facial expressions mean. Of course, sprite expression is pretty simplistic, so you might not be able to take much advantage of that. Even if you are Ryu07.

That's true. I did realize that wasn't necessarily what you were saying and took it a little off topic.

>I don't think I could ever read and enjoy a story without dialogue. Dialogue is what makes a story interesting~!
I think I remember you saying that before, or someone, probably from here, saying it. I was thinking about that while writing that post, too, and I sometimes wonder if that's true and the things I've written without dialog aren't any good. But, in the end, I think I disagree. Otherwise, isn't all prose without dialog then there only to serve as a way to move from one point of dialog to the next? If that isn't the case, then it can be interesting even without serving dialog, and if that's true, then I don't see why it can't be extended to cover the the full story, even if it's a short one.

Yeh you suck at mac versions. I had to manually patch all your gameboards and Ronove's Higanbana as well, little prick butler.

Insults aside, it's not that hard to make a compatible version. VNs like the noose and such can work on mac as long as you have this Onscripter mac application which I found from Uncle Mion's website.

All this shit from this noose folder was from the windows version of the game. All I did was add the Onscripter file and it became a mac version. Easy but takes a long time to figure out if you're a noob at Onscripter.

So you basically go to Mion's site, get the latest release for ONscripter, Mac Build, and replace the .exe with that?

Sounds easy enough even without knowledge of ONscripter.
>> No. 60928 edit
>>60927
That only works if you have a set-up similar to that of the noose and such. If it's Umineko or Higanabana, it's another story entirely.

Correction, you leave the windows files untouched, just add the Onscripter application inside.
What I meant about being hard to figure out was that I encountered the same issue with Higanbana and googling didn't help me much. So I just did trial and error till I found that app file.
