DeIz was mostly crap. Pretty much anything is better than it. The writing was felt so forced and the conversations felt strange most of the time.

Actually, I agree with you; the VN reading community is, however, focused on good art over good writing. Take RE: Alistair++ from the Lemmasoft forums and maker Sakebento. Hailed as a "pretty damn good VN"; unfortunately its writing is absolute garbage; characters flipping personalities like they all suffer DID.

Take another example: Songs of Araiah. Riddled with plotholes and other such nonsense, but considered so great it deserves a commercial remake. I'll grant that the premise and setting is interesting so perhaps the commercial thing fixes the hackjob writing.

No one tries to write anything close to clever or master piece because they're all focused on how to blind people with graphics. Stuff like Digital Love deserves its praise for being cleverly written, and yet it takes a backseat due to omg graphikz.

DeIz only claim to glory is its graphics. The writing and paths clearly make little sense and as a VN it doesn't hold up.

The flipside is, of course, that these are non-commercial works and so quality is seen as something that may be neglected. It's just so frustrating when people praise the bajeebus out of lost potential.

Since we don't have artists except for Gogo and Makk, and the former seems to have gone missing or something (or is she cake?) we're clearly outmatched against such 'master pieces' with their graphical excellence and nonsense, but we do have Kinjo master writer.

I disagree. Highly popular VNs like Higurashi, Tsukihime, and Umineko have rather poor art. It should be fairer to say that a VN will generally be considered good as long as at least one part of it is of high quality, whether it be the art, story, or music.

Cast would likely still be too large for Gogo to handle on her own, if we had an expy of each seacat member. Even discounting the inactives and error margin for people not interested we'd have six characters with various emotions.

I felt like making a VN once a month or so ago. I gave up when I couldn't find any good character art, background art, or music I could use, and decided I'd be better off writing a regular novel with the few skills that I actually do have.
But I don't have anywhere near the motivation needed to actually write a novel so now I'm right back to square one.

Why; in my opinion the art is just a bonus, and helps for more immersion, like background music and sound effects.

They got completely caught up with graphics and routes that the VN just seems like a mess. In my opinion they should have just stuck with the 3 routes, and made them longer, making them more realistic and keeping a better flow.

I'm tempted just to read it so I can see how bad it is. I most of the time laugh at stuff like that. Well it is original stuff, if it is fan stuff, it just ticks me off.

Yeah, motivation is always my biggest hurdle when it comes to anything like this as well.
That said I wouldn't really mind working on a project like that. At this point anything's good as long as it keeps the boredom at bay.

We tried this before with Detective, recall? Thankfully a school rabu rabu romansu VN is much easier to write, as you don't really need a specific type of protagonist or fill in blanks and do research. You just need a believable school setting.

That makes a team of three writers. Planning helps. We can use /lobby/ as a general planning stake out area if we decide to go forward with this. Some means of communication would likely be useful for quicker chat, but I don't want to use IRC or something so we should probably just streamdiscuss it or something.

Three paths? Including forveralone? Sounds fine to me, the less amount of paths the more you keep a flow, and not make it just madness (like DeIz) And then the characters won't be like "Hi" "Ok" "Let's rabu-rabu!" They will have at least some amount of depth. (Even if short)

It works out. Three paths, one is Forever Alone. One is standard ending, and we can probably invent some cool alternate. If we end up writing more paths, that'll happen but we can tackle it when it happens.

Sounds easy enough. School settings are among the easiest to work with, anyway.
The VN I mentioned that I gave up on before was going to be a cyberpunk sort of thing, meaning the backgrounds couldn't just be photos put through some filter and I'd have needed to design each of them in 3DCG, which would have meant learning how to do that and that would require effort and actually being productive, etc. Or drawing all of them by hand which would be equally as boring.
My next thought was to make the artwork in 8bit style and having chiptune music like that new Steins;Gate sequel coming out, but then I realized I couldn't even do that much. ;_;

The thing is, I studied Graphic Design in high school for years so it's not like I can't do that stuff if I tried. And I'm actually good at composing music as well. Come to think of it, about the only thing I couldn't handle would be the character art because I cannot into proper anatomy.
All I lack is the software (and motivation). It all costs money and I desire not to waste money on things like that. Why things cost money, why not everything be free, etc.
