JoJo's Bizarre Adventure really needs a proper adaptation of the series from the very beginning, but I can't think of a single studio that would do Araki's artwork any justice in animation format. Well for starters, I like Empath's attack animation which makes it easy to deny and harass with 600 range. Her stats are decent though her armor is horrible.

Regarding her skills, I don't really have a problem with Essence link since it can be used in many situations. The only problems I have with it are the long cooldown duration and you have to move at least 750 units away from the target to stun him/her, that makes it a rather unreliable stun.

Regarding her Illusory Veil, aka "wall", It's great for blocking narrow chokepoints or forcing opponents to take the long way around it. However during a teamfight, it's not long enough to block/separate enemies completely. Its long cooldown of 18 seconds renders it usable only once for a typical teamfight.

Synergy is sort of Glacius' regeneration so I'll skip that.

As for Empath's ultimate, "As One". It's common to use it on the team carry, but if he/she gets focused down instantly, chances are Empath would die almost immediately after that.

Let's say Empath's ultimate is on cooldown during a teamfight. What can she do? Put up a wall and just cast Essence Link? Without a reliable stun or nuke, she'll die in a few seconds if the opponents have lots of aoe magic damage.

If I were to classify her, I would say she goes under "Support Ganker". She definitely won't be able to gank a hero by herself while her skills are rather dependent on the location of teamfights.

To sum it up, Empath is very, very situational. I am not very good at playing support heroes, but I would rather pick Demented Shaman or even Glacius over her.

Illusory wall can also be used for escapes, too. Put in front of the hero you possessed and they can run right through it to evade capture (the speed up power from As One helps). So she can also be used to rescue.

Her suggested items are designed to help get heroes out of a pinch where her powers can't, so it comes down to not being overwhelmed in battle.

If your carry gets focused down immediately, you're going to have problems anyway, doesn't matter what support you're playing or what abilities you're using. As One also carries a huge on-demand movespeed boost, which can help in addition to items like Tablet of Command and Astrolabe (you could also get Stormspirit like the guide recommends, but I tend to prefer Astrolabe). Most lategame carries who don't have innate magic immunity like Predator will get Shrunken Head anyway (and yes, As One plays nice with Magic Immunity).

You shouldn't rely on Essence Link for a stun. It's great because it's strong, cheap harass in the laning phase, and when you use As One it heals the person you are merged with.

I've always considered Glacius to be somewhat on the weak side, as in the late game he falls as fast as an enemy clicks on him, and his nukes become irrelevant (only good for the "stun" and slow). Glacius is the poster child of the 1/5 lategame. Empath doesn't drop off and remains strong throughout the game, because As One will always give her survivability AND a big boost to your carry. The mere fact that Empath can continue to cast all her spells and use items while As One is what I love about her.

Glacius is something you pick when you really have no better options for support, he's simply extremely weak compared to Empath. I can't even see him coming close unless you're desperate for disables. Demented Shaman, yeah, there's no doubt he's probably stronger than Empath in a lot of situations. Still, I tend to give the nod to Empath simply because it's easier to survive as Empath when it matters.
