Myn (Arcana): From what you can tell, the circle on the door is some sort of arcane lock. It will probably prevent all forms of physical interference to try and open the door, though the exact nature of how it might retaliate is unknown to you.

The faded circle on the ground is inactive. Whatever spell is contained by this ritual circle is not currently in effect, and you don't know how to activate it or what it will do. However, the runes suggest that it is somehow tied to the lock on the door.

The glowing green power circle seems to be sending and receiving power from the pedestals in the faded magic circle and the ones holding orbs to the west. It's likely all three circles are linked in some manner, and those are in turn linked to the pedestals.

"By Moradin's Beard! What in Faerun is this thing!" Michael exclaims at the sight. "Let's secure a rope, so our arcanists with better knowledge can get a good look."

Impressed by the sight, Sureiya quickly stow his weapon and take some tools. Then he firmly secure a rope to the ground so everyone can get down.

One by one, the group descends the ledge and moves into the room. Sariel moves up to one of the pedestals, and begins to examine the arcane devices before her ( http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2935420/ ). Once down here, you can see that the ceiling here is about 20-30 feet high, varying over the terrain, and your light reveals a bit more of the passage to the east.

It's good you can see more to the east, too, as in the eerie silence of the cavern, it's quite easy for you to hear the faint sound of footsteps approaching from that direction.

Noticing the sound of the footsteps, Sureiya draw his farbond, while keeping the sunrod on the off-hand.

At Michael's words, the footsteps stop. The rest of the party position themselves, and a few seconds later, a half-orc slinks from just out of view, a throwing dagger in her hand. There's an awkward pause while the two groups regard each other, before recognizance takes place.

"Why, hey there! Haven't seen you folks since the caravan," Thelkra announces, relaxing and putting her dagger away. "Y'all tracking them raiding parties as well?"

Perception (Bernkastel and Sureiya): Nothing about Thelkra APPEARS out of the ordinary. Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be more to the room or surrounding area than is immediately apparent. The only special detail worth noting is that path to the east appears more naturally-formed than the one you came from.

Insight (Bernkastel): Thelkra seems rather relieved to see a friendly face, though while her stance appears relaxed, she also seems coiled, as though ready to dash forward or away at a moment's notice.

Thelkra strides forward at a brisk pace while replying, "Welp, I've been roamin' around these hills for a while, tryin' to gather information from the local troll populations. None of them are sayin' anything worth hearin', though."

She points her thumb back the way she came from, "An' yeah, these caves're quite the hassle to navigate. I wouldn't recommend going back that way, real dangerous place I just came from. Fire 'n' loose rocks everywhere, and weird underground storms or something. I think there were some beasties hidin' around there, but I managed to sneak past 'em. Then this big spider comes charging right at me, but I cut it down." She continues to casually approach the party.

...How confusing. Beasts?

Receiving the guest, Sureiya moves near to her and ask her
"Troll populations? Is posible they are related to the recent attacks using the elementals?"

Thelkra stops a bit in front of the gathered party, and replies to Sureiya, "Nah, if the trolls're a part of this they ain't sayin' anything about it. None of them even seemed to know about it. What, you didn't think the Troll Hills name was just for show, did ya?"

Sariel, apparently disinterested in the goings on around her, rises from her inspection of the arcane circle. "These pedestals and orbs are clearly some sort of activation mechanism for this ritual circle. If we can get it working again, we should be able to manipulate the lock on the door." She then points to the door and says, "...The leyline is very strong here, as well. It's hard to see, but I can sense it. The caster could be in here... and with this elaborate locking mechanism, I'd say it's quite likely."

Torinn glances at the magic circle arrangement and the stone door. "Though I can't say I'm comfortable with heading back just yet, what with that elemental chaos leyline tearing reality apart at the fringes here."

Torinn implores Thelkra, "Please, if you found anything, anything at all that you haven't already told us, tell us now."

"Presumably, some pattern of orb placement should unlock the door. However, without some kind of clue as to what that pattern is, it may be dangerous to attempt a random placement."

Myn walks around the circle once, examining it closely.

"Given that the five outer pedestals are each on the boundary of the circle, and that the number is matched by the yellow orbs, it may be the case that their placement is colligated. Yet, that there are two red orbs left over may be significant as well."

Sariel walks a bit in the direction opposite Myn as he examines the circle, nodding and appearing to be lost in thought. Similarly, Thelkra idly walks over to the doors to the north and fixes her gaze on the circle third circle that is imprinted directly on the door. Upon staring at this for a few moments, the half-orc puts her hand on her chin, and also appears to be thinking hard about something.

The eladrin breaks the silence after a few moments, "I agree with the half-elf. I believe the green circle around the five outer pedestals would indicate that the greenish-yellow orbs are meant to be placed there."

Following the arcane masters' explanations, Torinn nods along with them. It made sense that the green ones would go there, but what about the red ones? There were still two left over. Was there some kind of order they had to be in? Could the pedestal support two orbs?

The only thing Torinn can make out on the door is an arcane circle, complete with a bunch of symbols he doesn't recognize.

The doors appear quite thick and sturdy, and trying to force them open via conventional methods would probably be a waste of effort. They are solid stone, and likely the work of a skilled craftsman. With that said, there's nothing especially identifiable about the doors that marks them as the work of a particular somebody. They're just really strong doors.

Myn carefully thinks about the room, hoping for a sudden burst of insight.

Myn is pretty certain that because this device was constructed to be used over and over, it will not be particularly hazardous on a failure. There is likely to be a correct sequence, but inputting the incorrect sequence will probably not result in harsh punishment.

"...it should be safe to assume that a failure in placement won't be too much of a danger to our health."

Less worried about the consequences of failure, Myn decides to try out an arrangement of orbs. He takes the two northmost green orbs along the wall, placing them clockwise along the circle, starting from the northmost circle pedestal. He then takes the next two green orbs and the final green orb, taking two trips, continuing the clockwise placement until the outer ring of pedestals on the circle is filled. Next, he takes the top and third-from-the top red orbs, placing them in the left and right center circle pedestals, respectively. Finally, he takes the southmost remaining red orb along the wall, and places it in the second-from-the-bottom pedestal along the wall, deciding to line the leftover orbs with the torches on the opposite wall.

As soon as the warlock removes two of the green orbs, the clamps on all of the remaining pedestals that are still holding orbs to the west clamp down on the orbs they contain, making it impossible to move them. In addition, the green light fades from all of the formerly green orbs.

"...that explains the clamps."

Myn returns the orbs in his hands to their original positions, hoping that it would result in a reset of the mechanism.

When Myn returns the orbs to their pedestals, the clamps withdraw, and the green color returns to the darkened orbs.

Myn attempts to pick up the two northmost red orbs.

As soon as Myn removes the second red orb, the clamps again grasp all of the remaining orbs.

Myn places the two orbs in his hands in the left and right center pedestals in the circle, in that order.

As soon as Myn places a red orb on the center-left pedestal, the clamps on all of the remaining orbs release.

Myn returns to the western wall, attempting to take the top two green orbs again.

The half-elf takes two green orbs from their pedestals, and again, the clamps grasp all of the western orbs--as well as the two in the center of the circle.

The green color remains this time, however.

Myn tentatively places one of the green orbs in the topmost pedestal along the circle.

When Myn places the green orb on the topmost pedestal, suddenly the clamps on all of the empty pedestals raise, leaving no room to place orbs on them. In addition, the clamps clamp down on all of the other orbs as well.

The green orbs again lose their greenish hue.

"Perhaps the placement of the red orbs should come first after all."

Myn removes the green orb from the pedestal, and going back to the western wall, he attempts to return the two green orbs in his hands to their original positions. He then attempts to pick up the two red orbs remaining on the wall pedestals, top first.

Upon picking up the faded orb, all of the green orbs regain their color. Myn is able to return the green orbs to their original position easily enough.

When he removes the second red orb, the clamps again grasp all of the orbs, including the two in the circle.

Myn places one of the red orbs he carries in the second pedestal from the top along the wall. He then attempts to replace the green orb from the second-from-the-bottom pedestal with the other red orb in his possession.

When the warlock places the red orb on the pedestal along the western wall, second-from-the-top, the clamps release.

He is then easily able to exchange a red orb for a green orb. The clamps briefly grasp all the orbs when he removes the green orb, but retract again when he places the red orb on the pedestal.

Myn again attempts to place the green orb at the topmost pedestal in the circle.

When Myn places the green orb on the top pedestal in the circle, the clamps grasp all of the other orbs, and color fades from the green orbs.

"...so, that was incorrect as well. Perhaps the green orbs along the outside of the circle require red orbs adjacent to them to function."

Myn again takes the green orb from the top pedestal, trades it for the bottommost red orb along the wall, and attempts to place it at the upper-left pedestal along the edge of the circle.

When Myn removes the faded orb, the green orbs regain their color. Upon removing the red orb along the wall, the clamps raise again, but release when the green orb is put back.

The warlock attempts to place the red orb on the pedestal to the north-west of the circle. After about a half-second, there is a whirring sound from the pedestal, and the red orb falls to the ground. It seems undamaged, but was 'rejected' by the pedestal.

"...that's a new response. An experiment may shed some light on this."

Myn replaces the red orb along the wall, and then replaces the two red in the center of the circle along the wall as well, returning the pedestals to their starting position. He then takes the topmost two green orbs, and places them in the center of the circle.

While the warlock does something, the shaman moves to the door, intending to hear any sounds that may hint at what lies beyond.

Myn replaces the rejected red orb, then picks up two green orbs once more. When he picks up the second green orb, the same thing that happens at first happens again--the green orbs lose their color, and clamps seize all of the remaining orbs.

Placing the two faded orbs in the center yields no response. The clamps do not release, and color does not return to the orbs.

Myn replaces the left center green orb in the second-highest space available along the wall, and picks up the topmost red orb, attempting to place it in the topmost pedestal along the outside edge of the circle.

Bernkastel moves up to the door, but can't seem to hear anything through it. Either there's nothing there, or the stone is simply too thick to hear through.

When Myn returns the faded orb to a western pedestal, the green orbs regain their color. Removing the red orb yields no further response, but when Myn tries to place it in a pedestal along the circle, it is 'rejected' again.

Myn takes the rejected red orb and attempts to place it in the remaining center pedestal.

Myn is able to place the red orb on the center pedestal without any resistance.

Nodding, Myn again attempts to take the topmost remaining green orb along the wall and place it at the topmost pedestal along the circle.

Myn is able to do just that without any response from the pedestals at all.

Myn smiles, attempting to repeat the action with the remaining three green orbs along the wall, intending to take two trips and place them clockwise from the top around the circle.

As soon as Myn removes one of the green orbs, the clamps again activate, and the green orbs fade to black.

Myn replaces the green orb he picked up, and instead takes the green orb from the center-right spot, attempting to place it at the upper-right position along the circle.

Once the faded orb is replaced, the green orbs regain their color and the clamps release. After that, it is a simple matter to move the green orb from the center to the circle.

Once the faded orb is returned, color comes back to the green orbs, and the clamps release. It is then easy to move a red orb from the west pedestals to the center.

Myn picks up first the topmost green orb, and then the topmost red orb from the pedestals along the wall. He then places the green orb at the lower-right position along the circle, keeping the red orb in his hand.

Myn picks up first the green orb, then the red orb at which point the clamps activate on the orbs. The half-elf carries the green orb to one of the pedestals along the circle. Once placed there, the clamps release again.

"The mechanism is similar to the wight and priests' puzzle, it seems."

Myn returns to the western wall, takes the topmost green orb, and places it at the lower-left spot along the circle. He then takes the final green orb along the wall and places it at the remaining upper-left pedestal along the circle. Finally, he returns the red orb in his hands to the top available pedestal along the western wall.

Once the proper sequence is realized, it becomes a simple matter to move the green spheres to the outer ring of pedestals.

When the last green orb is placed in the proper slot, the ritual circle begins to brightly glow, and the outer green circle disappears. Though the main circle is now active, it seems additional steps are necessary to unlock the door.

Sariel again kneels down and begins to inspect the circle once more... it appears new symbols are now visible.

Thelkra suddenly speaks up, "I don't think that's necessary, guys." She walks up closer to the door. "There's an easier way."

Since the orc was never very good solving puzzles, he stay silent while Myn skillfully solve it.

Thelkra turns around away from the door to face you, then begins to explain, "Well, before, I thought these symbols were awful familiar. But I not quite right. When ya figured out that circle, though, suddenly the runes started to look 'right.'"

She points back at the circle on the door with her thumb and continues, "See, this? It's a magic the ritualists back at Many-Arrows use. Now that it's active, it we just need the proper reagent to 'unlock' it. And it just so happens I have that reagent right here."

After saying so, she swiftly pulls out her long knife, and readies her other hand.

...Many-arrows. Were Ms. Cragmaul's worries unfounded?

After the puzzle was solved, Torinn looks skeptically at Thelkra's idea of a "reagent".

"It's best to avoid unnecessary workarounds if we can help it. If you would, Miss Thelkra."

"Hmm? What kind of reagent?"
Move to 27-S, stow sunrod, and prepare both weapons.

With a single, swift motion, Thelkra lightly slices her empty hand with the long knife, and then presses the slightly bleeding hand against the circle on the door. It instantly reacts, glowing steadily brighter and brighter.

"My blood may be weaker, so it's best to know for sure if it'll work," Thelkra comments. Almost immediately after she finishes her sentence, the doors swing open, revealing a short flight of stairs that head steeply downward to a cut-off platform, where a brazier sits, illuminating the area. Thelkra stares down the stairs for a few moments, then turns back to you and asks, "Well? Are you ready for this?"

Torinn steps up to the foot of the stairs, "This tearing of the fabric of reality can't be allowed to continue, nor can those who are preying on the caravans be given free reign to do as they please."

There are more of the steep steps, and at the bottom they open into a larger room that he can only see a sliver of. It appears illuminated, and there is a very large, glowing magical circle in the room. That's about all Torinn can see from this angle.

It's quite likely she's trained in using the staff as an arcane weapon as well.

The thaumaturge gestures with her staff, and cries out, "Be bathed in flame!" A fiery blast hurtles from the tip of her staff and directly lands on the elemental spirit, which is unaffected, but all of the adventurers gathered around it are scorched and continue to burn.

They retain all of the cunning and savagery of normal orcs, but are more inclined to the arcane arts, unlike natural orcs that tend to slide towards primal magic.

These orcs surge with fell resilience when bloodied, and have no particular strengths or weaknesses. This one appears to be an elite, and wields potent controlling magic. Those more learned in the matters of the arcane would be better equipped to determine the exact nature of those attacks.
"Bernkastel" calls her spirit companion back adjacent to the fell orc, and it quickly uses its hoe to guide Thelkra's long knife as it slices down on the caster, causing grievous wounds.

The fell orc curses and whips its staff forward, sending out a wave of psychic tendrils that pull the thief away from her. The thaumaturge then nimbly hops away (earning it a bit of punishment from the spirit companion's weapon, which rejuvenates the nearby half-orc with a swing), before raising its staff high and standing directly on the arcane circle.

"Enough! Fell dragon born of flame, heed my call! Destroy all who dare to interfere with our plans!" she yells, looking upward. As she does so, her staff glows, and the ritual circle reacts, glowing in unison. For a moment, the fabric of reality in the center of the circle seems to tear, and then it is gone, having deposited a massive, lizard-like winged creature with dark gray skin and smoke billowing from its nostrils right there. You don't need any kind of training to realize that this is some sort of dragon.

The dragon appears disorientated, but manages to shake the chamber with a guttural roar, which reveals a raging fire down its throat. The skin around the dragon's midsection glows slightly, as if an untamed flaming sphere of something was lurking just inside.

"Wench! Calling up some lil' dragon ain't gonna save you!" Thelkra spits out, before sliding to the north and then charging directly at the caster, taking advantage of the spirit's guidance to strike vital areas and knock the thaumaturge off its feet.

Bernkastel summons her spirit companion, and uses claws of the eagle. Thelkra's long knife hits the thaumaturge for 13 damage. The thaumaturge grants combat advantage until the end of its next turn.

The thaumaturge uses beguiling strands, which hits Thelkra for 2 psychic damage (reduced from 5), and slides Thelkra 3 squares.
The thaumaturge moves back (which triggers spirit's shield, which hits for 4 damage and allows Thelkra to regain 4 hit points), then uses her standard action to summon a young fellflame dragon in the center of the circle. The young fellflame dragon is surprised. The relevant knowledge check for the fellflame dragon is Arcana.
Thelkra uses unbalancing trick to shift 2 squares. Thelkra then charges, and hits the thaumaturge with her long knife, dealing 21 points of damage (sneak attack!) and knocking the thaumaturge prone.

"This appears to be a fell dragon from the Shadowfell, comments Sariel. "Though, there's something weird about it. It appears to be emanating heat from a fiery core of sorts... it'll probably burn things that get too close. It is resistant to necrotic energy, and probably fire as well. It also has a vicious bite that drips with necrotic energy, which could make its victims less accurate, and its claws are not to be trifled with either. It spews a necrotic breath that leaves its targets weakened, and easily shakes off most conditions very quickly. Now... the rest is speculation on my part, but I'm guessing it becomes even more vicious when wounded, as most dragons do, and its powers may be enhanced by that fiery core of its. Be ready for anything at that point."

Myn's first eldritch strike misses, but by reaching within himself for strength he is able to critically hit with the second, and the dragon's flesh begins to rip apart, revealing a raw fire within.

The dragon's eyes flash, and it breathes necrotic flame over the half-orc female and the dragonborn. Both are engulfed in necrotic energy, and a weakening fire overtakes them.

Sariel, seeing the situation well in hand, decides to take advantage of the power granted by the paladin's sword to unleash grasping shadows on the beast. However, she can't seem to affect the dragon's stalwart mind.

At this point, the dragon moves to action, and reaches out with its claws to strike at both Torrin and the ranger. Though the paladin is quick to blow the dragon's claw, Sureiya is ripped accross the midsection, and the dragon, sensing weakness, ignores the paladin's sanction and savagely bites Sureiya, leaving the half-orc in critical condition. It faces punishment, but hardly notices it. The adventurers also note that the dragon's flames wash over most of the battlefield now.

Though the adventurers have begun the battle strong, it's not over yet.

The one called 'Bernkastel' unleashes a renewing strike through her spirit companion, which fully invigorates the nearby ranger, even as her spirit slices into the dragon with its weapon. They then change positions.

The dragon instinctively lunges for Sureiya again, biting him savagely. Thelkra grunts and hurls her throwing dagger at the dragon, and it nicks away at its hide, though doesn't cause much damage since the half-orc remains weakened.

Bernkatel's spring renewal strike hits the fellflame dragon for 16 damage, and Sureiya spends a surge to regain full hit points. Battle standard doesn't trigger since he's outside the aura.

Michael draws his weapon and heals Torinn with a bit of inspiration, then approaches the dragon before issuing a highly damaging strike, which bolsters the attacks of his allies against the dragon. The dragon shambles and pivots, as if it is only barely still holding itself together.

The thaumaturge sees the writing on the wall. "V-very well, you have won this day! But this fight is far from over, mark my words!" With that, the fell orc reaches into her robes and pulls out a talisman, similar to the one you recovered from the other fell orc that attacked the caravan. Raising it high over her head, the ritual circle glows, and the thaumaturge vanishes from sight.

Thelkra growls at this. "Oh, you are NOT getting away!"

Michael equips his farbond spellblade, and his inspiring word allows Torinn to spend a surge and regain 18 hit points. In addition, all of you in the standard's aura regain 1 hit point. Michael moves.

Receiving the order from the shaman, the Sureiya throws his mighty sword against the dragon, but it was some degrees off.

The spirit swiftly moves forward, and guides the ranger to launch a pair of attacks at the flailing dragon. The first misses, but the second tears a large gash across the creature's back.

The dragon stumbles a bit, roars weakly, and then collapses in a smoldering heap. The massive fiery aura dissipates within a half-second, and the dragon does not move. For a brief moment, arcane whispers can be heard emanating from its body as its life-energy feeds the warlock's aura, but it is then silent.

Thelkra takes the opportunity to respond to Michael's query. "I gotta idea," she says as she cuts her hand with her long knife once more, "But I wanna make sure of it!" With that, she slams her bleeding hand onto the ritual circle. Again, it glows brightly, and the thief disappears.

Myn smiles briefly at the dragon's corpse before walking over to inspect the circle alongside Sariel.

Looking at the confused wizard, Sureiya have no time to lose. So he imitate what Thelkra did.
Use my farbond to get some blood from my off hand, then I slam it on the magical circle.

Myn doesn't recognize anything particularly familiar about the circle.

Sureiya cuts his hand, and places his palm around where Thelkra did, and...
nothing happens

I wonder what that round thing on the floor is.

"Even if we don't catch the wizard we need to bring back Thelkra, that's what worries me"

Bernkastel examines the ritual circle, but the spirits can tell her little other than this magic circle requires some sort of arcane ritual to activate. Its purpose is unknown.

As the group takes a breather and Michael begins to examine the thaumaturge's possessions, Thelkra and the thaumaturge reappear in the center of the circle. Thelkra is standing over the thaumaturge, looking a bit singed but otherwise healthy, and the thaumaturge is quite thoroughly thrashed and bloodied.

The thaumaturge's clearly magical staff rolls out of her hands and to the side, and it grasps the talisman tightly in the other. Thelkra places her boot on the center of the caster's chest, pinning her to the ground, and calls out to the rest of you, "Got her. Whatya think? I think we have a few questions for the lass, don't you?"

"What the ... why was my blood was no good for this? Damn it, I will never understand this arcana trash."

"A spellcaster that can summon a dragon, but still flees at the first sight of trouble probably won't be very useful."

Myn walks over to the slowly-rolling staff, picking it up.

"Although, I wonder if I can make use of this, somehow...?"

Pick up and examine staff.

As Myn retrieves the staff, he is soon able to identify it is a +1 accurate Staff of Ruin (Adventurer's Vault, pg 106).

Thelkra grabs the caster by the collar of its robes and lifts it a bit off the ground, before replying to Sureiya, "Sorry, brother. That circle won't be of much use to you unless you're a member of the Dragonsworn clan." She then turns back to the caster. "Scum, you said 'our plans' back there. What did you mean by our? And what's with that thing?" she points to the dragon's corpse, "I don't have much trainin' in that kinda thing, but even I can see it's a shadow beast from the Shadowfell... yet, altered, and weird. What gives?!"

The thaumaturge laughs and spits in Thelkra's face, provoking the thief to slam her into the ground, hard.

"So, what are we going to do her? If she accepts to peacefully get out of here we could let her live."

"After the stunt she pulled and the things she already said, I have half a mind to put her out of our misery," Torinn snarls, pointing his blade between the fell orc's eyes and glaring at her with righteous fury burning in his gaze. "But if you want to continue fighting like this, the very least I can do is grant you the warrior's death you seek with such tenacity, and you can die in battle, fighting to your last breath as you choke on your own blood. So do you choose to fight, or will you talk?"

You should think things over carefully and tell us what ye know, or my friend 'ere might really do what he says. The same might go for the rest of our group at some point too, and I dunno if I could stop them ALL from doin' unspeakable things to ya."

While the good/bad cop is in work, the orc makes an interesting face. Then he walks near of the dragon and using his sword he cuts some dragon scales, with the intention of doing a charm later.

"Speaking of that fell creature," Torinn growls, turning his sword from the fell orc to the felled fellflame dragon, "I'll need this," and points to the dragon's head. He raises his blade, bringing it down in a powerful strike that slices through it's scaly neck and severs it's head from the body.

"We'll be needing proof of what happened here, so I'll be taking this with me," Torinn explains, putting away his shield to grasp the head by it's crest. He hefts it up and carries it with him, once again holding the fell orc at swordpoint, "Have you made up your mind?"

When Torinn hacks at the dragon's head, he finds the skin of the fell beast has turned very brittle, much like thin, refined obsidian. If this dragon was ever a 'living' thing, it clearly was no longer while you were fighting it. The neck crumbles away as Torinn hacks at it, and while Torinn has successfully removed the head, it's unlikely it will retain its shape for very long.

While this is going on, Sariel is staring intently at the ceiling. Anyone who glances up can guess as to why--here, it seems that the veins of the elemental leyline you witnessed earlier have converged, and there is a bulging mass of the 'skin' covering the raging elemental energy above the magic circle. Ripples of lightning and plumes of fire spit from its surface, as if it is barely even contained here.

The fell orc snarls and spits to the side, but does appear to be shaken by the dragonborn's display. She seems to consider the charismatic duo's words for a moment, then says, "It does not matter. Kill me if you will, but the Fell King's vengeance has already been put into motion."

Thelkra pulls the thaumaturge back up and threatens the fell orc's throat with her long knife. "Who in the hell is this 'Fell King?' Some figurehead in the Shadowfell?"

"I wonder how many of the dwarves and humans they'll wipe out before Many-Arrows falls... ah ha ha, what a pleasant thought," the fell orc sneers, and you can tell Thelkra is about to lose her patience.

Meanwhile, Michael rummages through the chest and discovers several items of obvious value. The identity of the magical items can be discerned by holding them for a few moments:

After finally rummaging through the chest and seeing what's in it, he shows it's contents to the party, to try and help the mood a little bit more, and to hopefully see if Sariel could gather anything to help them in this situation from the ritual book. He seems interested in the little dragon marionette especially.

"It seems than this orc will not cooperate, but returning to Baldur's Gate with him could be useful, I wonder if she could handle the interrogators.
Anyways, you just said something interesting, Why are you in the Dragonsworn clan along that fell orc?"

"Don't get the wrong idea, brother," Thelkra replies, her angry gaze remaining fixed on the prone fell orc before it. "The Dragonsworn clan is a dead clan, for the most part. I do come from that bloodline, but it's not as if I hold some allegiance to the clan." Again, the thief leans inward, pressing her blade closer to the thaumaturge. "I WOULD like to know what this scum is doin' usin' the clan's rituals, but I have a feelin' I'm not gonna like the answer, whatever it is."

"I tell ya what I think we should do! I should kill this bitch, and we'll take whatever she's got on 'er back to Baldur's Gate!" Thelkra spits, drawing back her long knife. "I've heard enough to report back to Cragmaul now, so let's finish this!"

"She can't tell us anything if she's dead. Take her in alive and give her to your superiors. Have them coax more information about this plot from her."

He lowers his gaze to the pitiful orc, letting go of the husk of the dragon's head, "I don't believe you deserve the comfort of death for the danger you've brought upon us all. You're coming back as proof of what happened here, since your pet can't pull itself together, and somebody in Baldur's Gate is bound to know how to make you spill your guts."

Having decided the staff would be worth keeping more than the fell orc, Myn shakes his head.

"It may be dangerous to let her remain alive. Even if dead, she may be made to speak with the right magic."

"I disagree. It's as the Paladin says."

Thelkra wavers for a moment, then slams the thaumaturge back against the ground, hard. The fell orc's head hits the ground with an unpleasant sound, but it seems to be without any major external injuries. Hopefully it's just unconscious.

"Fine. I'll let the stiffs in Baldur's deal with her then," Thelkra says, sounding unsatisfied. "We'd better bind her hands, then, and gag'er. I don't reckon taking away the staff'll be enough to stop her from castin' completely." The half-orc takes out part of what appears to be a spare bandana, and begins tying it off to use as a gag.

Sureiya waits until Thelkra finish the job and then suggest.
"Just to be extra careful, could you check if she still have any kind of weapon or magical artifact with her?"
Sureiya takes a short rest.

Sariel finishes looking up at the converging leylines and explains, "This is definitely where the leyline to the Elemental Chaos is strongest. That's what all that up there is about," she points up at the ceiling. "So then, if it would be much easier to call forth denizens of the Elemental Chaos here, I wonder why the caster went through all the trouble of summoning a dragon from the Shadowfell? It doesn't make much sense. Unless..."

The wizard thinks for a few moments, then says, "Well, the dragon seemed more like an elemental creature than a shadow creature. There may be some books in the Arcanimus that have the answers we need to this riddle, or maybe interrogating the fell orc will help." In any case, she takes the ritual book Michael found and begins flipping through it.

Torinn sits down, watching the ceiling and looking uneasy.

"Is it really safe to leave it like this?"

Take a short rest

"I don't think there's anything we can do about it. Sealing a leyline is... well beyond our capabilities," Sariel replies.

"Then let's go back already, it's a long way"

"...a soft axe can't fell trees. It would be prudent to devise a way to make these tools more effective."

Sighing slightly, Myn nods at the half-orc.

"I agree. It would be unwise to dally here more than necessary."

Shrugging at the apparant lack of anything to do about the leyline issue, Michael takes out a rope and starts helping Thelkra tie up the fell orc.

After finishing his rest, Torinn gets up and claims the belt from the spoils.

"If we can't do anything about it, I'd like to find somebody who can, and soon."
