Immediately following this, laugher bursts into the room. Jessica is sitting down holding her stomach rolling over herself.
“H-hey what-,” Battler begins to say, quite agitated that she would laugh at something like this. However it quickly becomes apparent that she is not laughing. While it may have started out like that, it grew into a gut wrenching sob. Tears flow from her face. It’s understandable, her father was killed, and the night before all this responsible was pushed onto her. You suppose this happy moment of youth, so drastically different finally broke the dam.
Those innocent cries quickly change however. Slowly but surely Jessica beings to cough; so much in fact you can tell it surely isn’t healthy. “What’s wrong Jessica?” George says as he quickly rushes over to her. She continues to make gestures to her throat, and it seems the family members get the idea.
“She is having an asthma attack, where is her inhaler?” Reinon bursts out, quickly realizing that Jessica doesn’t have it on her. Jessica shakes her head and tries to communicate and a soft whisper managers to escape through the coughing.
George seems to have gotten the idea of the message, “She said it’s in her room, hurry!” George and Battler quickly lift her up and put her arms around both of their shoulders. They make it to the door, with Asune following Battler, before noticing that nobody else has moved.
“What are you all doing? We need to get her help, now!” exclaims Battler.
“Think about it,” Eva states, “If the culprit has a gun moving together just makes us a larger target. It only takes one bullet to kill someone you know.”
While Battler yells about this being about Jessica’s life, you take the time to realize she makes a point. In these types of situations sticking together in one large group seems like the preferable idea, however even if you walk around together it’s no guaranty for safety. Like she says, it only takes one shot...
With Eva and a few of the other adults opposed to leaving the room, it is quickly decided that, after a quick jab to the side Rudolf will go with them; taking one of the rifles for protection. Asune refuses to leave Battler’s side and decides to come as well. As Jessica coughs her lungs out Battler, Rudolf, George, Jessica, and Asune are about to step out of the parlor.
“Last chance, I’d feel safer with one other man, any volunteers?” Rudolf asks with a half look back into the room.
