Google Translate hardly helps and my Japanese isn't nearly good enough, but you're saying something about not having much power to change the direction of the game? This isn't true; every vote counts, I'm sure!

It should be considering how long I've been studying it. I'm actually really good at understanding by listening thanks to all the anime I watch, heh. Writing and speaking, though, not so much.
Could probably get by in Japan, as listening and speaking aren't terribly different, and I did learn a lot about their culture while in college, but reading and writing is hard for me; I have trouble with the grammar and haven't given myself enough time to actually learn the kanji.

The grammar is pretty confusing, yes! At least to me; I know someone who doesn't have any trouble with it. It's just, it's all backwards compared to the languages I already know.

Backwards in that... say
Akai kutsu = red shoe(s), right?
But I've mostly learned Japanese in Spanish, so it was backwards from Spanish grammar, where we say "zapatos rojos" (adjective first).
Or the way they say, "I do X because X," or "This happens because X"

Eep. Looking it over, the grammar is pretty similar to English and I hadn't even noticed. It's Spanish that's backwards, it looks like. Didn't even know since I don't speak, read or write it too much; it just comes naturally because it's my first language.

The person that doesn't have trouble with grammar is one of my sister's ex-boyfriends, someone that went to the same high school we did.

On another note, I don't think a lot of people will see this here, but you should watch Krampus; it's pretty entertaining.

This is true. Tae Kim, huh? I'll look him up when I have more time. Do need to up my "Wapanese" game.

Why does that destroy my weeb cred? I can't help it sometimes, living with all these normies.

In the end, I'm not as much a hikki as I sometimes feel like I am.

when I feel like studying grammar, I look at tae kim. And yet, I might not know more than I did when I stopped taking japanese classes 6 years ago.

ato, I'm not talking about your 「Weeb Cred」. In the same way I might refuse smoking because "smoking destroys your lungs"

it's nothing but an excuse for me to say that I probably won't do that

It's funny, it does sound familiar.

Sounds like someone I would expect to wear a monocle and a top hat. Such an individual would most certainly have been here since the beginning of seacats.

And yet no record of such a being can be found on seacats.net, so such a being surely never existed.

It is indeed criminally short. And things just got worse: the psychiatrist wants me to focus on real-life relationships! I mean, yeah, okay, maybe one day I'll have the guts to talk to some random person at a cafe, but for now, please let me hold onto what was part of my lifeline for the last decade, yea?

Ah, the limits living with parents incurs. Dad is very understanding; it's mam who's super worried about me being around technology.

Hopefully once I actually get to talk to the psychologist rather than do exams I'll get to do some more.

Bring this up the psychiatrist, it sounds like he found a new patient.

So long as you can carry on neccessary IRL conversations there's really nothing wrong, making small talk with normies is basically a form of masochism.
