The funny part is that the landlord is the uncle of the one guy outside of my family who does know I exist, and that guy would be my next door neighbour in this new house. I've met the landlord, he doesn't care if I'm a literal ghost who's going to be haunting the place, so long as he gets his rent money. Which I've already offered to pay 6 months of up front. He WANTS to give me the house, it's the housing agent who's throwing piles of unnecessary paperwork at me.

I'm pretty sure I did, that's how I found the house in the first place. While he's the landlord's nephew (which would've gotten me the house for sure if not for having to go through the housing agent), he's also not in any of the professions which would let a letter from him serve as a proof of ID.

I do have photo ID for what it's worth, but it's not among the list of things that they'll accept, which is horribly over-specific to the point of saying "If all else fails, find someone from one of these jobs who has known you for no less than two years, have them write and sign a letter on this specific type of paper which meets conditions A through Q, then send that to us to be used as proof of ID." The whole thing is ridiculous.
