Well, I didn't actually planned on starting Kanji, especially based on advice I got from people who went over there and have a certain degree of knowledge on the language, who advised me to learn a lot of vocabulary first, but I still wanted to now some Kanji so I decided to at least learn the basic ones.
I certainly won't learn the rest the same way, cause it'd be way too inefficient, I'll pick them up along the way when I'll do reading exercises.

My sensei always taught me grammar is the most important to learn. Though of course, you need some vocabulary to work with. Usually she had us memorize verbs and the different structures for them first and foremost.

Grammar is definitely the hardest part of Japanese for me, ignoring the fact that I only know a few hundred Kanji. I just haven't bothered memorizing many, although I should soon if I want to take the JLPT this year.

Unrelated, but have any of you read Eats, Shoots and Leaves? I'm mainly looking at Rin and Lili here.

Best way to truly memorize kanji is to flashcard and use them constantly in sentences.
For instances, instead of seeing benkyousuru/べんきょうする (to study), memorize the kanji to the point where you see it as 勉強する. But I guess you shouldn't take advice from a guy who had to memorize each level for only 11 weeks to work with.

Only thing I can say is that you want to truly memorize anything, be consistent. Even if it's in small integers like one sentence of Japanese a day. Repeat.

If I still had the original files I could've written up a step-by-step guide of it for you, but the way I was doing it was a pretty long and tedious process.
If you want to post one of the original body files (the image that has both the [part of the] sprite itself on one half with a bright green[?] background, and the silhouette of it on the other side) then I'll probably be able to remember how I did it through trial and error.

I could also give you a macro to do it properly if you use photoshop.

No, I didn't merge the alpha. All I did was load all the sprites in ONscripter, which took a screenshot and saved it each time.

Some sprites even have three layers, one for the head, body, and hair. It's overkill and is a pain to try and piece each one together in an image editor. Screenshotting it works the fastest.

Considering there are just over 3,000 sprites, piecing them together by hand would take forever.

I can use bw2aconv.exe to generate alphas for the pieced-together sprites. So I'd run my screenshotter again but with a black background, and then run the .exe to merge them together.
