Some people may need help and attention and seriously attempting suicide, and not simply some emo-fag, if cake is simply being emo-fag, I'll agree, just fuck him, otherwise it's just inconsiderate, and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here.

Seeing as how it was part of my studies... We were actually given classes on how to deal with suicidal emotions since teenagers tend to have those. Though it doesn't apply to all cases, generally giving them what they want rewards the behaviour and it just makes them do it again when life is glum. Yes, there is a risk that there is 'the last straw' to push them to it, but most* suicides are untelegraphed and happen without (much) prior notice.

Since Cake gave prior notice and talked about previous failed attempts I do not think he seriously wants to die, and he must realise that suicide is not a method by which to acquire attention and loving care. It is through facing adversity that he should receive those, and we cannot promote such behaviour.

I know this is the internets and we're not supposed to want to better people but I firmly believe everything I do isn't malignant or meant to drive people to the penultimate act.

Then here's a tip I picked up from my training as a counselor to confirm that, yes, you are right.

People who want to talk about suicide and them committing it are actually not too far gone or have been thrown into complete despair over such thoughts. They are seeking out help in order to save themselves and entrusting their lives to people who they believe they will place such resolve in.

It's the ones who do not say anything and start to disconnect from people that you need to worry about, or rather, start worrying about. Salvation is not seen at all with these people and they are already at their end game when they do start to isolate them themselves from the world. It's like the old quote goes: "It's always the quiet ones."

I'll leave it at that.

Lambda actually echoes part of what I said but the approach is different. I do wish he'd tell me more! I think if he got the counsellor side it's understandably different since 'regular' people aren't equipped with doling out the loving care as much and as long as it is needed without burning out or being severely taxed.

For that other convo, I always thought "It's always the quiet ones" was a crock of shit. Most people have someone they can or will talk to, especially in a day and age such as this where people can find friends via the internet, and sometimes in the real world. From my experience, like Lili mentioned, it was more for attention or otherwise, and also rewards the person for acting out like that.
