Well, the fight were... slightly unsatisfying....
Though I did like how Kotomine was just slapping Kerry's pathetic attempts with one hand, trying to say "get that weak sauce out of here"

Anyways, the Saber and Kiristurugu suffering was nice.
Felt bad for Saber, wore my "you just got fate/told" face for Kiritsurugu.

Hi Curry-kun.

Also I was cleaning (yes, I clean at midnight, dwi) and discovered all these old exercise books of mine... and a number of neatly printed, decorated with pictures' stories I'd written, all of them about people falling in love and being generally happy.

I somehow feel like I've gone massively wrong now that I write mostly sad stories. What happened to the happy and positive me of ten years ago?!

I was pretty underwhelmed by this episode. Seems like we barely got to see any of Saber vs. Berserker. Even though Berseker has been built up to be some uber-powerful servant by all the hype, he came off as weaksauce here because of a brief fight scene~

Kiritsugu vs. Kotomine felt like I was watching Yoda vs. Palpatine from Revenge of the Sith~ You're ruining characters that shouldn't be powerful fighters by giving them flashy, intricate fight scenes (of course I felt the same way about Heaven's Feel Kotomine)~ Anyway, I was just not interested in that one, but unfortunately it felt like it got most of the attention.

And the complete lack of a fight scene between Saber and Gilgamesh was just disappointing. Going by what they said in Fate I was completely expecting one. The whole episode felt rushed to me~ I would've rather they had this whole episode focus on the battles and then have the NEXT episode deal with the Grail, but apparently they're not doing that~ They crammed all the fighting and the Grail bits into this episode and I felt it suffered because of it.

Now, of course I haven't read the source material, so it's quite possible it's still a faithful adaptation. In which case I'd say the source material was flawed too, at least from the perspective of an animation~

All Gil did was throw some NPs at Saber before Kiritsugu ordered her to destroy the grail.

Gil was kinda in serious mode, so Saber had no chance at all. She was already pretty tired from fighting Basakaa.

He didn't seem very serious to me~ And by that logic, Gilgamesh had also already blown a lot of power on Rider, while Saber hadn't even unleashed her NP yet~

It was not just her mana, she was still affected by the fight, Gil was not even agitated after using his super powerful NP. And I believe Saber didn't want to use her NP to well ... to not destroy the grail as she was ordered.

Yes, she was "affected" in such a way to win the Grail at any cost, so that should have made her even more dangerous~ Look, Servants are superhuman, so stuff like fatigue and wounds can be overcome fairly easily if they haven't spent much mana, and there was no indication that Saber had~ And sure, Gilgamesh LOOKED fine, but that doesn't mean anything~ There should have been a fight, regardless!

I just don't see how it could have end differently after Gil started spaming a few NP. And there are those damn chains, Gil could have probably stopped Saber from destroying the grail using them.

Things that mattered in F/Zero ending:

Gil getting a body allowing him to remain even after the Grail war.

Breaking Kiritsugu mentally and physically.

Saber being betrayed and raging about it.

That big fire.

Take note that Saber had to be careful about fighting since there was the risk of destroying the grail. At that moment, it would be far more logical to use a one shot NP to wipe the other out instead of wasting time throwing spears and swinging swords.
I don't know what your definition of a fight is but Saber knew the only way to beat Gil was through her NP along with the power of Kiri's Command seals. She wasn't at her best after Berserker fight either.

Saber could fight Gilgamesh in Fate even though she had lower stats then. Sure she did eventually lose (up until Avalon), but they could at least fight~ As for the chains, yes, but Gilgamesh seems to almost never use them~ If he HAD used them I'd agree with you that he was in "serious mode," but he didn't~

>>47286
Ya'know, there's something to be said for STYLE in presenting something, and that is what I felt this was lacking~ I'm not denying that it presented the important information in the episode. I'm saying it could have been done better, and flashier, and with more Nasu-final-battle-style that we've come accustomed to~

Well, the style would be different since different author. While Nasu spends lots of time on fight scenes and cooking, Urobuchi focuses more on giving F/Zero a dark and sad theme that he's known for. I wouldn't expect anything less from the guy who did Saya and Madoka.

You're lewd~

>>47291
It's still the Nasuverse~ Anyways, earlier episodes had more intricate and engaging combat scenes, so clearly either the author or the people in charge of the adaptation showed they had the proficiency to pull it off~ Why they just didn't bother here, at the most critical moment, is a mystery to me~
>> No. 47293 edit
>>47292
Theorycraft at this point for not including a fight scene between Saber and Gil at the end:

If Saber had a nice long fight with Gil, she would be aware of his ability since she retains memories unlike other servants. This would have an impact on her fight scenes with him in the Fate route which would lead to more plot twists. Hence the best way to avoid this would be to skip the fight. Therefore, all Saber knows is Gil can throw spears besides Ea and Enkidu.

While there are still some plot inconsistencies, Gen did try to cover up some if not all of them while writing F/Zero. It is a prequel after all.
>> No. 47294 edit
>>47293
What I meant was that Saber doesn't know about Ea and Enkidu. I believe she doesn't encounter any of them in F/zero, correct me if I'm wrong.
