Controllers
Druid : A primal controller who can shift between the forms of man and beast. Your beast form gives you access to powers that provide control at close range, while your humanoid form allows you to hinder your opponents from a distance. Play this if you want to be able to minor in any role, be the best summoner in the game, and be extremely mobile.
Invoker : A divine controller that brings down the fury of the heavens on their foes. You invoke the power of a god to blast your foes from a distance, leaving them unable to defend themselves, and scatter them to the four winds. Play this if you want to inflict powerful debuffs from level 1 onward, target plenty of enemies easily, and buff allies as well.
Psion : A psionic controller that uses their mind to cripple enemies. You can mentally influence the actions of your foes, and you can toss your enemies around the battlefield with psionic force. Play this if you want to move enemies around, augment your at-will powers every battle, and work with psychic and force damage.
Wizard : An arcane controller and the archetypical spellcaster. You exert control through magical effects that cover large areas - sometimes hindering foes, sometimes consuming them with fire. Play this if you want access to lots of support, have some of the best utilities in the game, and have very powerful daily powers.
Leaders
Ardent : A psionic leader that uses its beliefs to influence allies and enemies. You fill your allies with the will to fight and the clarity of purpose needed for victory. When you attack, you loose thoughts that intensify emotions and lay bare truths. Play this if you want to be ready for a large variety of scenarios, grant passive bonuses to important skills, and be able to minor in other roles on the fly.
Artificer : An arcane leader that fuses science and magic to great effect. You channel arcane power into items that empower your allies and hinder your enemies. You lean toward controller as a secondary role. Play this if you want to make daily item powers provide greater benefits, be great at preventing damage, and be able to benefit allies regardless of their role.
Bard : An arcane leader who uses words, song and movement to shape the battlefield. Your spells inspire and invigorate your allies. Your spells also include significant control elements, making controller a natural secondary role. Play this if you want to rearrange the battlefield on a whim like a grand chessmaster, cripple enemies as much as you help allies, and be able to expand your versatility exponentially with unlimited multiclassing.
Cleric : A divine leader and the classic "healer" role. You lead by shielding allies with your prayers, healing, and using powers that improve your allies attacks. Play this if you want to be the best healer in the game by far, have powers that can trivialize encounters completely, and prefer to get effects out of your powers whether you hit or miss.
Runepriest : A divine leader who uses divine runes to strengthen themselves and the party. The runes you invoke allow you to impart strength and vitality to your allies while leaving your enemies open to attack. Play a runepriest if you like stacking buffs that apply to you and everyone else, be versatile enough to switch roles on the fly, and be a really tough sunnuvabitch who can wear heavy armor.
Shaman : A primal leader who mostly acts and attacks through their spirit companion and spirits of nature. Your spirit companion bolsters and heals your nearby allies, and you can evoke other spirits to aid your allies and harm your foes. Play a shaman if you want to minor in any role you choose, have one of the best attack-granting at-wills in the game, and be well-rounded enough to be good at every aspect of leading.
Warlord : A martial leader that inspires others and is a master tactician. You have become an expert in tactics through endless hours of training and practice, personal determination, and your own sheer physical toughness. Play a warlord if you want to lead by example and be on the front lines, be the best attack-granter in the game, and provide solid buffs and debuffs.
