It's funny because Satou from Welcome to the NHK and Sanetoshi share the same VA. He really needs to get more roles from now on, he's got such a good voice.

The principle problem I have is that the show isn't really conveying a message, for all its symbolising and posturing. Okay, so Shoma has really bad parents who are terrorists. Kanba is made part of the family, and they adopt Himari too.

Then when their parents do bad stuff, all Shoma and Kanba go on and on about is how life is a punishment and they'd rather be off dead. And how life is punishment.

So what, the entire moral of the story is that being alive is suffering and we're all better off dead? Except then Shoma and Kanba appear to be revived. As little kids.

So nothing ever happened? Poorfags gon' be poorfags? Miserable people deserve to be miserable forever?

What the hell was with the goddess story? Why did Kanba explode into shatters of glass? What does eating the apple even mean?

This story, it makes no sense. It began as a happy (sort of) comedy story, then quickly degenerates into some kind of deep, philosophical message that completely fails to deliver itself. You're left with an array of confusing scenes.

Come to think of it, what was the Princess of The Crystal? Too dom to be Momoka so I guess she's Himari if she joined Triple H. Or her repressed subconscious. That one's pretty popular.

Nah, that was Igarashi. He only worked on some of the Storyboard and Script for Utena, whereas Ikuhara was the director and he's well known for his crazy style with symbolism all over the place. Star Driver was great though, drew a lot of influences from Utena and turned out as a very fun show. I should really finish the last few episodes of that sometime.

The apple is love, altruism, empathy, something along those lines and it's also the penguindrum. Kanba becomes Shouma's friend, Shouma becomes Himari's friend, Himari becomes Kanba's friend. Mawaru (to go around) Penguindrum.

Kanba turned into glass because he changed fates with Himari. Children who go to the child broiler were shown as being broken down and shattering, much like Kanba.

The apple is the reward for those who are willing to die for love. They died for love, and in some sort of Buddhist fashion Shouma and Kanba came back with their own apples as the two children.

Shouma was shown with issues loving people throughout the entire show - Ringo (apple) falls for him and in the end he returns her feelings, and then he takes her fate to stop her from burning up.

Star Driver was Igurashi, not Ikuhara. They both worked on Utena together though.

I guess that Ikuhara guy just isn't my kind of show-maker then. I didn't understand a zit of Penguindrum. After rewatching episode 1 I think it may be that "Fate is a bitch", but that's really all.
