It really was about as close to perfection as I think is realistically attainable. I've been trying vehemently to find any fault with it, but I just can't. What's more, I never actually read the manga because I didn't wish to spoil myself once the anime had already started, so I had no idea what was coming. During the episode's climax, my face was probably somewhere in the vicinity of about an inch away from my monitor; I've never witnessed a series that could pull off suspense like Kaiji does.

I remember someone in the /a/ thread mentioning that, it was indeed a really neat inclusion on Madhouse's part. In my opinion, it's that sort of going above and beyond the call of duty that separates a truly spectacular adaptation from a mediocre one.
You were right John, this really did turn out to be an undeniably fantastic season.
