After having /a/ endlessly hype the movie for years I was expecting some form of let-down, but goddamn that movie was beautiful from start to finish.
That Yellow Line race was INTENSE as fuck, especially with the soundtrack blaring right towards the end of it there. I mean goddamn that second nitro burst send the whole car shaking like it was trying to rip itself apart from the inside, I always love these hot-blooded anime for getting me pumped-up like that.
The Redline race was awesome as well. That Steamlight man, goddamn. Kinda funny how the racers actually spent less time firing at each other than they did at all the military troops barraging them from all sides from start to finish though.

Divine Challenge with proper support allows for a maximum of 33 damage from the mark itself, plus an opportunity attack that pushes the enemy several squares away and knocks them prone as an interrupt, and they're weakened. In other words, if it's a melee attack, it's completely negated. If it's a ranged attack, they suffer an even bigger penalty to attack thanks to being prone.

Weakening itself prevents more damage than aegis of shielding. And one paragon path actually heals whatever target was being attacked, hit or miss. So no, it's not as awesome as your aegis out of the box, but it has more potential.

Spirit infusion is top tier enabling power because of its range, enabling both mba and rba, and bonuses, etc. If everyone is correctly positioned and with the right buffs, tactical warlords can outdo spirit infusion when enabling a melee striker, but this won't be the case often enough.

I dunno about ardents, I've heard about the two-ardent abuse combo but don't they have to hit something in melee range to enable melee allies.

A pure swordmage works on an entirely different field than the paladin, as they focus more on the controller aspect of the defender while a paladin is more striker-ish and the cavalier is more leader-ish.

Bern, your arguments are rather weak and unsupported. The swordmage's capability to defend becomes more and more limited as the number of enemies increases, due to requiring an immediate action to activate. They have to make up for that with powers. It's pretty much the same as a paladin in that regard, for there are a good many paladin powers that increase its capability to defend, but the paladin comes out of the box able to apply its punishment to multiple enemies every turn.

Liliane, if you were aiming for versatility with a hybrid, I argue that you are weaker in every way to either a pure wizard or pure swordmage. If "versatility" means being able to react to the situation as it changes on the battlefield, then you already gave that when you took the hybrid aegis, which forces it to remain on the same enemy until it dies. You have effectively cut the effectiveness of powerful feats like Spell Focus and Enlarge Spell in half by forcing yourself to take swordmage powers (though you can help yourself a bit by taking burst/blast Swordmage powers, though I wonder if there are very many good ones).

I could go on, but it's just a problem with hybrids in general. It's never better to be good at three or four things when you can be REALLY good at one thing.

This argument right.

No basis yup.

A dilemma, but cherry picking feats makes up for it to some extent. This would depend on the class, probably.

I agree, the cavalier seems leader oriented (going by their powers and features, sac-cavalier is more healing and damage prevention, val-cavalier is buffing others and itself) but does it do this better than its parent class?

Somewhere, you lost me. Where do I attack Attarou or George for their characters not being optimised? I think I'm one of the few who HASN'T harped on George for his character at all, nor have I made any comments with regards to Torinn.

In general, this conversation began when I said Paladin powers were either DIVINE SANCTION or boring, and that the Swordmage was thusly superior.

Neither Attarou nor I were attempting to put eachother down - you clearly are attempting to put me down.

Again, I iterate that I have made no attacks on other people for any character they've rolled or made. I've limited it to IC for flavour purposes. If you can link me to specific instances where I attacked George or Attarou for selecting something fun rather than optimised, please link me to it - I'd rather see evidence of me putting down my fellows instead of being retaliationary put down for actions I can't even recall.

They don't get any of the features of the class that pure cavaliers get upon reaching certain levels, and Righteous Shield costs a feat. Meaning all you have is Defender Aura and Righteous Radiance.

Also, hybrid talent is needed to wear heavy armor, which is kind of supposed to be one of the paladin's selling points (before knight stole that too).

So you're stuck with what are pretty much the weakest class features, though at least you get to choose a virtue benefit.

Same way people decide x game or x movie is boring from a YouTube video or synopsis. Kneejerk reaction, doesn't line up with what you want out of the chosen goods, etcetera. I don't want to confine myself to a playstyle that's about marking everything, therefore, it's boring to me.

"The look of Paladin is boring to me". Does that make the comment less worthy of scrutiny? Since, clearly, you yourself justify your own "particular do not like" because it's "the look" or whatever, so enlighten me on what grounds I may not find a character boring when you may dub an entire archtype "do not like" based on looks alone.

That assumes something about my personality - that I am interested in proving myself superior to another. I have no such ambitions.

In fact, in this case it's a DM telling a relative newcomer player that their character sucks. I don't know how I should have taken that.

Should I have grinned and bore it and just thought, "Hey, just desserts for finding the Paladin boring"? Should I have just smiled and gracefully accepted being called a blackguard over acts that I can't even remember committing?

It's fun to throw someone off their high horse - I just don't recognise the need to kick someone who's on level ground.

It is, also, regretably in my nature to take any confrontations serious. If I can detect no good nature in it, and you yourself said you had the express goal of putting me down, then I'll treat any confrontation with maximum srs mode, just the same as I take any complaint repeated long enough as true gospel.

If you can't tell by the value of my arguments, Attarou was already sufficiently winning the argument on his own. If you can't tell, Attarou and I were being playful as we're wont to be. At least, from my side, that's how I experienced it.

And if you can't tell, yes, I'm upset that you decided to waltz in to tell me my character sucks at everything for something you now call "rash" in attributing me values that now seemly don't even apply to me.

No, I didn't know you were relatively new to this as well. I thought you were good at it what with talking about not believing in feat taxes, linking to it, apparently drawing the maps we use yourself, homebrewing all sorts of things... it had all the allures of an experienced DM.

Also, I apologize for being confrontational. Everybody keeps picking on the cavalier and now I'm starting to feel a need to reassert my decision to pick it wasn't a mistake since it keeps getting beaten up despite high defenses, and ignored in spite of its defender punishment. It's less proactive about defending and more reactive about patching things up when (not if, when) its defender mechanic gets ignored and an ally gets crippled.

Or maybe I'm just stupid and bad at tactical planning.

Also, no sleep, so super duper grumpy today.

Creating is something of a personal pleasure of mine, so even though I'm new to DnD, I do feel driven to create things related to it, since it interests me. That's where the motivation to homebrew and build comes from. I'm not terribly artistic, though, so I appreciate a system that allows me to create with gamer logic rather than artistic talent, as I think I'm far better at the former than the latter.

As for experience, well, I probably do have more experience with DnD than most here--that is why I volunteered to take up the role as DM--still, though, I haven't played a whole lot. Anyways, I meant no true offense towards your character, so I apologize about my outburst.

But the only way to optimize it right now is by somehow creating radiant vulnerability. And unless I worship a deity of the Sun domain and am a human who can get an extra at-will (Virtuous Strike), that's not going to be something I can do with any regularity like Frostcheese users can. It's totally impossible to augment it. No hit, no damage roll, no radiant vulnerability, nothing.

Otherwise start throwing fixes for Righteous Radiance at the wall and see if anything sticks.

To me, the paladin archetype's 'gig' has always been healing, and a Cavalier of Sacrifice is probably better than the o-paladin at this, and certainly better than fighters. In exchange, you lose some proactive defending, but on top of being a worthwhile trade-off, the mechanics seems to embody the lawful alignment quite well.

Then again, I value versatility over focus, which isn't so good according to charop. And then again, charop's "best options" tend to avoid taking party members into consideration.
