Not quite, my dear raion, not quite!
You see, this ingenious device works in a quite special way. Tied to the hammer of the alarm clock is a small piece of string, which is wound around a small cog nailed to the wall. Tied to the other end of the string is a mid-sized wooden hammer. This apparatus is positioned on a shelf just above my own pillow on my bed.
So you see! When the alarm goes off, it will gradually wind the string around the cog more and more. It continues to ring, and the string continues to wind. Can you guess what happens next?
Gradually, the hammer is pulled closer and closer to the edge of the shelf. Edging its way precariously closer to my bed by the second, it creeps like a tiger on its prey! And then, as it reaches the edge, it topples over and whacks me in the head! The distance between the shelf and the bed is just adequate enough that the falling hammer will do no serious damage, but high enough that the power of the fall will cause me to awaken without fail!
But! However! That isn't all. If, by some freak miracle, the hammer fails to waken me, there is a backup mechanism. You see, the string continues to wind. The weight of the hammer pulls the alarm clock also towards the cog. Thus, if I somehow manage to sleep through the hammer, a large metal alarm clock will be the next thing to strike me noggin'!
