Two days pass without much of interest happening. Sid almost always stays in the front of the transport, keeping an eye on the instruments.

In fact, it's a little more than 40 hours later that he calls out towards the back, saying, "Ermmmmm, guys? I think you'd better get up here."

Once the party has gathered up front in front of the various gauges, knobs, and other instruments that form the bridge of the undersea ship, Sid begins to ramble at you, "Well, er, you see... I'm getting some strange readings on the sonar. From what I can tell, the sea floor slightly below us rises abruptly here. But the leyline is clearly... I see, yes!" He interrupts himself, staring at one of the gauges, looking enthusiastic. "A cave! Yes, an undersea cavern! And it's massive! We should have no problems going inside. We're still not close enough to the leyline to perform the ritual, so this seems to be the only path! Hmmm... come to think of it, perhaps adding some sort of visual viewing screen besides the periscope might've been wise. Well, in any case, there's an underwater cave, and we're heading in, all right?"

"This ... thing ... moves to much."
Sureiya hasn't felt very well lately, the ship movement have caused him to feel sick and weak, making the ranger to keep a low profile all the travel.

"An underwater cave? Are you serious? Please let me have a look on that thing."

"Well, erm. Well, this is awkward!" Sid comments, indicating a collection of gauges to the half-orc. "You see, there's no real display here... I just have to kind of interpret the readings I get on these as a result of the sonar pulses, and... wait..."

As Sid drones on, you feel the transport slowly making its way forward, on into the apparent underwater cavern. The gnome seems a bit stunned by what's showing up on his gauges, and it takes him a good half-minute before he collects himself and begins to explain again, "Th-this is extraordinary! I estimate in a few moments we'll be... well, there is apparently open air in this cavern. No mistaking it!" He looks towards a familiar-looking arrow mounted on a familiar-looking device, that being the one you used to find the strongest point in the leyline in the dwarven ruins. "And... well, we're going to have to head in that direction. It's a good thing you came along after all, eh? We're going to actually have to do some undersea cavern spelunking from the looks of things... though... something is bothering me."

He indicates the gauges again, which are rather indecipherable to you. "Some of these readings are a bit too... fine? Too straight? It's as if there are hints of some sort of structure down here. You don't supposed there's actually some sort of construction here in this underwater cavern, do you? That would be an incredible discovery! Great Mystra's Ghost, this is becoming rather interesting!"

Torinn nods at Sariel's comment about his reading material - it was rather dull sitting around for an entire two days - telling Sid, "Wasn't this where an old eladrin city sank to the depths of the sea? We may have just rediscovered it." Another thought occurs to him, "You... Don't suppose that the residents survived and have been living here all this time, do you?"

"Well... I suppose certainly anything is possible... could they really have survived for so long at this depth?" Sid's eyes dart back to his instruments for a moment, and he shakes his head slightly. "Pressure's not too bad here, I guess. Maybe there is some magic protecting this place! Surely, though, if they had magic this potent, they could have escaped by now? Maybe the spell is still in effect, but they're long dead? I suppose there's nothing to do but investigate further..."

Sid begins to fiddle with the transport's controls, bringing it to a slow halt. "If my calculations are correct, we should be at about the surface level of the water in this cavern now... let me take a look, I'll activate the light on the periscope."

Sid moves back a bit, then fiddles with a large, tube-shaped obstruction in the middle of the deck that descends from above at the push of a button. He presses his face against it, and begins to mutter something for a moment, before reporting, "I don't believe my eyes, it looks like... in the distance, I can see several small lights! As if there were a city! Great Googly-Moogly, what a discovery!"

"Let me move in closer to the city, and I'll have a look," Sid comments, moving back to the controls. "If I'm not too much mistaken, there's something like a dock area not too far from here... or at least something similar enough that we can use it!"

After a few moments of the transport moving forward and then slowly easing to a stop, Sid moves back to the periscope. As he plants his face in the device, he lets out a gasp. "B-by the gods! Humanoids! Elves, or eladrin, by the look of 'em! They seem to be... waving, and smiling? Hmmm..." The gnome shoots a nervous glance to the party, and comments, "M-maybe you guys should handle this. Torinn gives Sureiya a look, chastising him sternly, "That kind of mindset is suicidal. I'd rather we didn't get into trouble that requires me to bail you out in the first place." "No, I agree it's quite suspicious," Sid notes as the adventurers make to depart. "Still, the readings I'm getting are consistent with the only access to the leyline being through that structure... and my UB0AT can't take you through there! Be careful out there!"

Exiting the transport, the adventurers are greeted by cheering and clapping from the eladrin gathered around the dock. There is a mix of males and females--about eight are dressed in very fine-looking clothing. They are wearing decorated robes, purple and green, with strange, arcane-looking symbols over the chest and shoulders.

Sariel: Though the clothing is consistent with eladrin styling from the Feywild, you do not recognize the symbols as belonging to any fey court.

Three others are not wearing decorated robes, and appear to be commonfolk--or at least, their simple clothing would have you believe this to be the case. Their clothing is somewhat worn and brownish, but oddly, the three male eladrin who are wearing these clothes seem to be a bit more muscular and well-built than the smaller eladrin wearing robes. In the back is a very tall, silent figure, who is not joining in the cheer, and though its figure is humanoid, its features are completely obscured by the heavy, yet plain hooded robe he or she is wearing.

"Travelers, welcome! Welcome to Heyl'r! We've not had visitors in quite some time!" the robed eladrin nearest the adventurers exclaims in a loud, welcoming voice (using Common). "And yet we are so eager to learn, and to teach! It's very good that you've come!" The welcome appears to be directed at Torinn, who is leading the group, though Sariel, Folka, Sureiya, and Myn are not far behind.

You may find perception and insight checks to be wise here. In addition, history may give you clues to the meaning of the symbols on their robes.

As for the area itself, you are standing on one of three wooden docks, and your undersea transport is directly behind you. It is mostly still partially submerged except for a large section of the hull where the exit hatch is located. From what you can tell, the cavern is completely lit, though you don't know what is providing this illumination. The ceiling is quite high, ranging from 100~150 feet at any given location. The water looks quite deep as well. The wooden docks seem sturdy enough, and directly in front of you is a large, white marble-like structure of similar make to the underground tower wherein you encountered Halvangh not too long ago. It also appears there are several identical structures directly behind the tower, and they all appear to be partially submerged in water. There is a massive, gate-like door a bit in front of you that appears to lead inside, though the various creatures stand between you and the gate.

History: Sariel is quite familiar with not only almost all of the courts of the Feywild, but their designs and fashions. These are definitely alien. She is absolutely certain that whatever these decorations represent, it's not affiliation with one of the courts of the Feywild. As for specifically what they represent, however, she is as uncertain as the rest of the party, and that is troubling.

Insight: Sureiya, Folka, and Myn all get the feeling that whatever these guys are happy about, it probably isn't something that would make you all that happy. These eladrin seem to radiate an almost alien aura, as if they have a completely different set of priorities than you do (being extraplanar creatures, this might not be all that unusual, but they still have a different "feel" than Sariel or the other eladrin they've met). Folka is especially bothered by something about the three larger, ragged-looking eladrin, but he can't quite place why.

Perception: None of you notice anything particularly untoward or hidden nearby, though the fact that you can barely see past the surface of the murky water is troubling. You don't hear or see anything unusual, however.

Unable to find anything specifically out of place, or remember anything pertinent to the situation (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3554369/), Torinn discretely lets go of Sariel and waves in return, standing proud as leader of the group. "Hello, and thank you! Yes, it's very good to find people who are willing to answer questions and aren't hellbent on ending us. But I think a little introduction is in order," He clears his throat and gestures to each person in turn, "This is Myn, Sariel, Folka, and Sureiya. And I am Torinn Tormine. We're on a quest to stop the forces of darkness from annihilating the continent above, and something important to that end is supposedly found here. We mean no harm to you of course!"

"Something of importance? You're in luck! There are many, many wonderful things inside our fair city!" the eladrin replies in a voice that is almost sing-songy. "Of course, if we're to let you in, you must pledge yourself to the overlords. You understand, do you not? This city is now a shrine to the overlords!"

The eladrin female addressing you spreads her arms wide as she says "overlords," and several of them begin to sing in a strange language that none of you recognize...

The eladrin shift their positions a bit, and continue the revelry, while the cloaked figure in the back addresses Torinn's inquiry, "They serve the lords of the deep. The master is Hemah, formerly of the Court of Coral. He heard the whisperings of a far greater power after the city sank, and in his dreams has seen much... including your arrival here."

Myn: This appears to be some sort of song of devotion to a lord of the Far Realm, commonly practiced by mortals who have succumbed to the influence of denizens of the farm realms, such as mind flayers or astral krakens. The exact name of the being they worship is unknown, as it is untranslatable. This group of worshipers would be considered a cult above the surface.

Sariel: You know that the Court of Coral is the primary faction that controls the waters of the Feywild. The cities that once thrived in this area were primarily associated with the Court of Coral, and have close ties to the Court of Winter's Night.

Sariel (History): As far back as you can remember, the two courts were close allies and friends. The Court of Winter's Night stands in political opposition to the Summer Fey and their Court of Stars, yet the Summer Fey have more influence over the Feywild as a whole. In this political opposition, the Winter Fey find they have few allies, and so the Court of Coral is a welcome one.

Though the alliance is more of convenience than anything else, the fey that encompass all of the courts mentioned are generally of the less-hostile factions, and thus are generally cordial and easy-going around each other. One of the main points of debate that drives the Court of Winter's Night and Court of Coral to oppose the Summer Fey is the fact that factions from all over the Feywild, including your own courts, meet in the Summer Fey-controlled Court of Stars. Some feel that more neutral ground should be selected as a meeting place for the representatives, or would prefer to select meetings of their own choosing. There is a small amount of fear that Tiandra, the Summer Queen, has too great an influence over these meetings, and thus, over all of the Feywild.

As previously mentioned, however, few fey have complaints over the current arrangement, with the Court of Coral being one of the few allies the Court of Winter's Night has. Naturally, this has led to other political disagreements on matters throughout the Feywild, such as the degree of interference allowed in the material plane, or policies on dealing with extraplanar beings.

The other eladrin seem to be slowly ceasing their revelry, and regard the adventurers with somewhat creepy, smiling looks. The hooded figure addresses their questions evenly, in a deep, somewhat gurgling voice, "Most here were simply civilians, and not directly involved with the affairs of the court. Though in name, yes. It matters not. Now they serve the overlords, as per Hemah's visions." He points towards the adventurers, and with a moderate amount of impatience in his voice, says, "Now, should you wish to learn of the dreams, you will join us willingly."

Folka, Myn, Sureiya: It was hard to tell before, but after watching the movements of the robed eladrin for some time, you notice something very unnerving about them. Their movements are almost eerily coordinated. The way they move, it's as if there is one mind controlling several bodies or something--the way they coordinate their movements are otherwise too precise, unless they are in fact very talented performers. You almost get the sense that these bodies are no longer being controlled by individuals at all.

With all pretense of formality and friendliness quickly falling apart, Torinn sighs, "I don't suppose we could meet over tea and discuss the merits of your overlord before making a decision, could we?" A familiar mist gathers nearby as his faithful celestial battle tiger quietly fades into view, yawning with a big display of teeth. The cavalier climbs into the saddle, already aware of what is likely to follow. And Torinn stops any attempt at being polite, haranguing the assembled undersea dwellers, "The answer is no, we're not joining your silly little cult. You're outright horrible at selling this 'allegiance' thing. Calling somebody your 'overlord' is a pretty sure sign that they're either a force of evil, tainted by evil, or a pompous little egotist who fancies themselves king of everything and throws a temper tantrum when they don't get their way. You mention no perks other than an obnoxious insistence that we can talk to somebody who has weird dreams and is likely out of their tiny little minds and you're not even subtle about the fact that you're a cult, to the face of a group of seasoned adventurers who have slain dragons and quasi-demonic entities already. I've heard better scams than that from street urchins," He shakes his head, offering a sarcastic smile and sneering, "And yet your little fortune telling club actually managed to gather this many recruits? Now what does that say about all of you, hmm? To me, well, it says you're all pretty damned stupid. And in a few minutes, you'll still be stupid, and also have had your arse handed to you, courtesy of us."

Torinn turns to the rest of the adventuring group, obviously unhappy with the way things have turned out here, but resigned to see it through, "You know what to do from here on out."

The party grabs its weapons and prepares to confront the mind flayer and its minions!

Robed Eladrin: Myn and Torinn know that these are cult zealots, level 7 minion skirmishers that are likely enthralled to the mind flayer. Sariel knows that, as thralls, if their mind flayer master drops to 0 or fewer hit points, the thralls will go into a berserk rage, dealing extra damage on their next attack, and also dying on the end of their turn. There's simply not enough of their psyche left to hold them together, after being dominated by the mind flayer for this long. They attack with their short swords, and can teleport a short distance (two squares) as part of the attack. They possess the ability to walk on water, due to an enchantment cast on them by the mind flayer.

Hulked Out Eladrin: Myn, Sureiya, Torinn, and Sariel... think these are eladrin, level 8, but not normal eladrin. You are unsure of what exactly they are at this point, which is weird, because you feel like you know eladrin well enough to know about them. Myn believes that that they can use their longswords in combat, and perhaps teleport using fey step, but if they have other abilities... well, their appearance isn't giving it away. Which is weird. You feel like if you'd just beaten a DC 30 Insight check earlier, you might know more.

Mind Flayer: Sureiya believes that this mind flayer is called a cult herald, a level 8 controller. It has enslaved many thralls, acting as their overlord, and completely controls their actions (the cult zealots). Whenever one of its thralls dies, it gains a +1 stacking damage bonus to its next attack, as it absorbs a portion of their mental power. In melee, it grabs opponents with its tentacles, continually dealing damage to them as it sustains the grab, and eventually, if the creature grabbed by it drops to 0 or fewer hit points, it will be made into one of the mind flayer's thralls--remaining conscious at 1 hit point, and dominated by the mind flayer until the mind flayer dies. This short-term enthrallment can be reversed by simply killing the mind flayer, it does not become harmful to the thrall until they have been dominated for an extended period of time. The mind flayer's primary method of attack is shooting psychic bolts of power within 10 squares, which daze whatever they hit. This mind flayer also has power over the water, and with a recharge power called Tsunami, and pick a water-filled square and create an area burst 2 centered on the square, dealing heavy damage to every creature in the burst, slowing them, and sliding the target 2 squares further from the origin square. Finally, as an immediate reaction, the mind flayer can escape by teleporting 5 squares whenever it is hit by a melee or close attack, which recharges when the mind flayer is first bloodied.

Gurgling, the mind flayer points to the gathered adventurers, and calls out, Deep Speech"Subdue them!"

However, the half-orc and the dragonborn are the quickest to act.

Sureiya boldly charges into the fray, and slashes at two nearby minions--though he misses with his first attack, his follow-ups both strike down a robed eladrin each. They fall to the ground, like puppets with their strings cut, with deep gashes in their chests.

Sureiya moves.
Sureiya uses twin strike, hitting zealot 2 but missing zealot 1, killing it. Sureiya's sohei flair hits zealot 1, killing it. The herald gains a +2 damage bonus to its next attack.

On the heels of Sureiya's opening attack, Torinn directs Rutger along the side of the pier, the battle tiger's claws digging into the wood as mount and rider briefly switch to a horizontal position, halfway in the water. This doesn't slow them down very much at all, though, and they reorient themselves to climb back onto the dock in order to get the drop on the enemy. With a very precise motion, Torinn cleaves into the eladrin, putting it and the mind flayer on watch.

Torinn and his tiger have a brief waterly interlude before leaping in the midst of the fray, next to the mind flayer and one of the eladrin, and the valiant dragonborn lashes out at the nearby hulky eladrin, slashing a clean hit with his sword.

Almost immediately thereafter, all three of the larger eladrin begin to melt away--at least, that's what it seems at first. In fact, it is only the fey features melting away, until they no longer resemble eladrin at all. Their skin is now rubbery-looking and yellow-ish, and very moist. Their hands are replaced by webbed claws, and they now stand with a hunched back, and their pupils have vanished from their eyes. A jagged-toothy maw has replaced their mouths, and their clothes fall from their now-lanky forms. These horrid abominations all immediately dive into the water, and disappear into the murky depths, though Torinn's radiance sears the one near him in the process. The other two suddenly lunge out of the water, tearing into Sariel and Sureiya's flesh with their webbed claws and grabbing them in a vise-like grip with their spindly arms. It should be noted that they are still firmly gripping a longsword in their free claw, and they look quite able to use it as well...

The zealots move as one, charging over the water as if it were dry land, and hacking at the adventurers with their blades. Only one manages to score a hit, however, and in a flash, several of them teleport to a new position immediately following their attack.

Torinn and his tiger move, swimming along, then he hits eladrin 1 with valiant strike for 14 damage.
Eladrin 2 uses change shape to transform into its drown form. It then dives beneath the murky water, then hides (beating all of your passive perception). It then suddenly lunges out of the water near Sariel, hitting with a charging claw attack for 13 damage, and grabbing her (escape DC 16).
Eladrin 1 uses change shape as well, turning into a drown. It shifts 1 square, taking 7 radiant damage from Torinn's righteous radiance, then dives into the murky water and hides.
Eladrin 3 uses change shape to assume the shape of a drown, then dives into the murky water and hides. It then suddenly lunges out of the water near Sureiya, hitting with its charging claw attack for 14 damage, and grabbing him (escape DC 16).
Zealot 5 moves over the water with its water walking, then charges towards Myn, hitting for 6 damage. After its attack, it teleports 2 squares behind Sariel. Zealot 6 moves and charges Folka but misses, then teleports 2 squares. Zealot 7 moves and charges Myn but misses, then teleports 2 squares. Zealot 8 moves and charges Torinn, but misses.

"To think that eladrin could sink so low... you must be disappointed, Miss Sariel."

Acting swiftly to cleanse his surroundings of the foolish creatures, Myn backs onto the metallic vessel as he lights the dock ahead ablaze. Putting his rested body to good use, he puts forth a burst of effort in order to psychically batter at the nearest creature's mind as well, weaving his curse about all the while.

Unfortunately, Sureiya has no knowledge of the creatures. They loom over their grabbed targets, as if ready to drag them into the deep and kill them, hidden away from sight...

Myn takes decisive action, calling down a rain of fire that blasts away one of the zealots and damages a nearby drown. The fiery zone lingers even as Myn strikes down another zealot with a psychic gaze filled with hate. Though the warlock attempts to retreat from the fray, he is pursued by another zealot, who hacks at Myn again with his short sword, drawing a bit of blood. Another zealot closes the gap with Sureiya, bounding over the water as if it were an open field, but his sword misses its mark.

Myn curses a drown, then moves.
His argent rain hits drown 2 for 17 fire damage (I rolled the curse damage and added it), and also kills zealot 7. Argent Rain creates a zone of autodamage for creatures that begin their turn therein or enter.
Myn spends an action point! Myn's spiteful glamor kills zealot 5.
Cult zealot 4 moves and charges Myn, hitting him for 6 damage, then teleports 2 squares. Cult zealot 3 moves and charges Sureiya, but misses. It then teleports.

The last drown should definitely be hit, max damage on him, use flurry of blows to slide the one grabbing Sariel northeast of it's current position (so north of mine).

I think I only take the 5 damage from George's zone only once on my turn (and it ends on his turn). The grapple should be broken by that slide as well, unless that has a range of 2 or something silly, which I doubt.

Torinn shields Sureiya with faith, granting him a bit of healing. The monk tears through the battlefield, slamming hard into the nearest drown with his elbow, which sends a few pointed teeth flying and causes it to retch some green blood. He then punts a robed eladrin clean off the platform, and it disappears beneath the waves, before he dashes into fire and unleashes a particularly crippling flurry of attacks against the drown that has its claws latched onto Sariel, propelling it forward and off of the wizardly warlord.

The herald hisses at Torinn, slinking backwards as the paladin's radiance stings him, then gesturing towards the nearby water. A massive watery impact sends a forceful wave over the area, and when it is clear, Sureiya is bogged down and pushed away (having taken some damage though somewhat protected by Torinn's radiance), Torinn himself manages to withstand the blast of water though Rutger seems to have not escaped damage, and sags a bit downward, clearly reeling from the blow.

Torinn's shield of devotion heals Sureiya for 4 hit points.
Folka uses spinning leopard maneuver, hitting drown 3 for 16 damage (which bloodies it), killing zealot 6 and critting drown 2 for 19 damage, and his flurry of blows deals 4 more damage to drown 2 and slides it 1 square.
Cult herald 1 shifts 1 square, taking 7 radiant damage from Torinn's righteous radiance.
Cult herald uses tsunami, origin at S-14. This kills zealot 8, missing Torinn but hitting Sureiya for 22 damage (including a +6 damage bonus from minion deaths), and pushing him 2 squares (but not breaking the grab). Torinn's healing radiance heals him for 7 hit points. It also hits Rutger for 17 damage (reduced from 22), and both Sureiya and Rutger are slowed until the end of the herald's next turn. Rutger is bloodied.

"Hang in there, buddy," Torinn reassures Rutger quietly, patting its head as best he can while carrying a sword. The nearest cultist is the subjected to a blast of lightning while Rutger tenses back. Torinn regards the mind flayer with revulsion, his limited knowledge of them painting them as truly evil, despicable creatures. He asks his trusty steed, rather loudly so that his target can hear, "How do you feel about sushi?" In spite of its injuries, the large cat responds by licking its lips, staring down the squid-faced horror with a hungry look.

"Then go for the face," Torinn declares, and the big cat pounces on the mind flayer, knocking it to the ground as it claws and bites at the wretched creature's face and tentacle appendages.

Torinn opens his maw and belches forth a crackling burst of lightning, but the nearby zealot manages to duck under the blast just in time. Torinn wastes no time in turning around as his battle tiger jumps to the side and then leaps through the air, its claws crashing down on the vulnerable herald. However, before the big cat can bring its jaws into the equation, the mind flayer suddenly vanishes from underneath its grasp, reappearing a short distance away.

Torinn uses dragon breath, but misses the zealot.
Torinn shifts.
Torinn uses Rutger's battle pounce, which hits the mind flayer for 22 damage and knocks it prone.
As an immediate reaction, the cult herald uses aberrant escape, teleporting 4 squares.

The drown trapped in fire looks around frantically as it burns, then cautiously moves away from the monk before diving into the water and disappearing into the murky depths. A few moments later the drown that disappeared only a few seconds ago leaps out of the water near Torinn. He takes the dragonborn by complete surprise as he lunges upwards and sinks his claw into Torinn's shoulder, grasping him roughly.

Drown 2 begins its turn in the argent rain and takes 5 fire damage. It shifts 1 square, then dives into the water and hides, easily beating everyone's passive perception (note that you can make active perception checks as a minor action to attempt to locate hidden creatures.
Drown 1 lunges out of the water with a charging claw attack, barely hitting Torinn for 16 damage and grabbing him (escape DC 16).

Though Myn is able to siphon some power from the drown's attack on Torinn, the nearby zealot takes the opportunity to stab him in the side with its shortsword, somehow overcoming his concealment. Myn responds by whirling around, assessing the point to where it teleported to, cursing it, and giving it a rather spiteful glare. This glare is, in fact, charged with psychic power, which overwhelms the minion, and its connection to the herald is broken as it crumples, sliding off the smooth hull of the UBOAT and into the water.

The last remaining zealot, apparently completely unaffected by the carnage that befell the others, moves towards the half-orc and attempts a feeble swing, missing wildly. However, as Sureiya turns to face it, it teleports between the ranger and the warlord.

Myn uses life siphon when Torinn is hit, regaining 4 hit points. However, this provokes an opportunity attack from the nearby zealot, which hits for 6 damage. It also teleports 2 squares.
Myn shifts, curses the zealot, then kills it with spiteful glamor.
The last zealot moves forward and misses Sureiya with a natural 1, then teleports 2 squares behind him.

Seeing that most of the enemies are either dealt with or hiding, Folka speeds across the battlefield to help deal with the drown near Torinn, then looks to see if he can spy any of the drowns to point out to his allies.

Folka dashes and tumbles north along the battlefield as the flames of argent rain die down, and attempts to land with a heavy elbow drop on the visible drown, but it nimbly dodges. Regaining his composure, the monk scans the nearby water, almost thinking he sees something down there--but he can't quite make it out enough to locate precisely where it is.

With a gurgle, the mind flayer pulls itself to its feet, and points at the dragonborn once more, Deep Speech "Embrace oblivion!" At these horrifying words, Torinn's mind reels briefly, and the dragonborn is wracked by horrible visions filled with the worst possible outcomes from the various stories he's read over the past few days, only with the party placed in the stead of the heroes from the books.

Folka uses the movement technique of open the gate of battle, shifting 7 squares. Folka then uses the attack technique of open the gate of battle, but misses drown 1.
Folka makes a perception check but it doesn't beat the drown's stealth check (sorry!).
Cult herald stands. It then uses disrupt mind on Torinn, which hits for 11 psychic damage (factoring in +1 from minion death), and Torinn is dazed (save ends).

Despair grips Torinn's heart like a vise, resolve being eroded away by doubt flooding his mind. Images of death, of possession, of slavery, of torture, all manner of terrible fates befalling them. If they were overpowered just once by a particularly nasty attack... If a crucial shot missed its mark... If a grievous injury disabled them... And then nobody would ever find their bodies. What hope did they have of winning in these kinds of circumstances?

And then, in a little pocket of his mind, a small jail cell flies past. His entire family staring solemnly at him, locked behind the bars as they slowly rot into skeletal figures.

The amulet around his neck flares brilliantly, the dragonborn murmuring
"No, that's not how this story ends." The stories changed, and the heroes pressed on in spite of those odds. And they won. The spell over him broken.

Torinn glares at the mind flayer, eyes burning with righteous indignation, as he declares
"I am Torinn Tormine, son of Balasar Tormine of the Tormine clan of Djerad Thymar, paladin of Bahamut the Platinum Dragon. If hope and justice are lost to the darkness, I will be the beacon that guides them back into this world safely. And you are not going to extinguish that light. Not you, not your master, not all the legions of the Hells or the hordes of the Underdark."

With a cocky grin, he growls at his adversaries, "But I suppose that won't stop you from trying anyway. So come on, then, if you think you're hard enough!"

The amulet around Torinn's neck activates as he gives his rousing speech, protecting the paladin from the debilitating effects of the flayer's psychic assault. It seems to quiver a bit, as if it feels a hint of fear from the display and its own inability to affect him.

Sariel, unfortunately, cannot seem to land her psychic attack effectively either, despite the surprise brought by suddenly slipping between dimensions to arrive very close to the drown. However, the eladrin manages to boost her allies all the same, revitalizing Torinn with a word of power, and the lingering magic around the drown promises to activate for any of her allies that are willing to take advantage of it.

Torinn uses his steadfast amulet to negate the daze.
Sariel uses fey step to teleport.
Sariel uses fettering gaze but misses the drown. The effect still works on it.
Sariel uses inspiring word, allowing Torinn to spend a healing surge and regain 31 hit points.

As Sureiya darts away, the nearby zealot takes the opportunity to stab him with its shortsword. Undeterred, Sureiya slashes at the drown, with one swing going wide but the other opening a rather large gash in the creature's side, sending the creature's foul, greenish blood spraying across the dock. It screeches and reels backwards in response.

Sureiya moves, provoking an OA from the zealot, which hits for 6 damage.

"It's too late to apologize for what you've done, you monster. Now face your punishment."

Rutger and Torinn heave the drown away and reposition themselves out of its grasp. Leveling his blade at the mind flayer, a shaft of light spears through its chest. Torinn's first charging attack sends a spray of foul, black blood from the aberrant creature's innards, and Rutger's bite tears bits of flesh from the herald's face. It makes no audible sound at this, but seems quite staggered and wounded at this point.

The missing drown emerges on the other side of Sid's transport, leaping through the air and grasping Myn with its claw, sinking the digits deep into the warlock's shoulder. Even as the half-elf struggle with his aggressor, Sureiya spots an opening in the nearby drown's defense as it attempts to escape.

Torinn escapes, shifting 1 square.
Torinn charges, using a melee basic attack, which hits for 7 damage, plus 8 radiant damage from holy smite. The herald is also dazed, and bloodied. Torinn spends an action point! Torinn uses Rutger's bite, which hits for 26 damage.
Drown 2 moves unseen, then lunges out of the water, charging with claw towards Myn, hitting for 10 damage and grabbing him.
Drown 1 shifts, provoking Sureiya's battle awareness.

The half-orc's sword finds its mark, slashing a horrid wound across the drown's chest, and it basically collapses into the water. Sureiya and Folka spot it regaining its composure, however, as it feebly attempts to conceal its presence in the murky water--though they cannot see the drown, the ripples in the water tell of its location.

Sureiya's battle awareness attack hits drown 1 because of the reroll, for 15 damage. It's just barely clinging to life now. It shifts, then hides, though Sureiya and Folak know where it is, though they can't see it (it has total concealment but is not hidden from them).

Myn's attack fails to wrap itself around the drown's mind, but his struggle against its grip wretches him free, and he calls upon a surprisingly close fey force to grant him a small deal on the side for an improved attack in the near future.

The last remaining zealot, still firmly under the influence of the cult herald, dashes forward and slices a clean blow through Sariel's shoulder, before teleporting back at the front of the fray.

Myn's all the sand, all the stars misses the drown 2.
Myn escapes successfully, shifting 1 square.
Myn uses fey bargain.
The zealot 3 moves, then hits Sariel with its short sword, and teleports 2 squares.

Folka tries to deftly toss a dagger at the area he saw the drown go under the water, but most likely fails to even strike the drown. Leaving the minion to the others yet again, he begrudgingly heads towards Myn to deal with the other drown.

Folka tosses a dagger into the water, hoping that it might cut through the still depths towards its target--but, unfortunately, it does not. The monk then draws a new dagger and takes briefly to the skies, gracefully flying through the air and descending on the south end of the docks.

The cult herald makes a desperate screeching noise as it lashes out with its tentacles, raking at Torinn's flesh and grasping him with its mouth-parts. Somehow, the tentacles find their way through the separation of his armored plates and dig directly into the dragonborn's skin, sinking deep inside and leaving him immobile.

Folka uses a ranged basic attack with a dagger, but misses.
Folka draws a new dagger and uses swift flight to fly to a new position.
Cult herald uses tentacles, and crits Torinn for 17 damage. Torinn is grabbed (escape DC 16). Maybe use powerful warning or something here?

With little room to react, Torinn is unable to make any sort of slashing attack to preempt the mind flayer. As it charges at him, the dragonborn makes a swift stabbing motion, firmly impaling the creature on his blade with a miraculously accurate strike. Radiant energy sears it from the inside while the blade glows hot.

"Rest in pieces, you sinful monstrosity," Torinn deadpans, then hefts his sword, lifting the mind flayer off the ground and cleanly cleaving the monstrosity in half from the gut upwards.

Sariel's psychic fist cuts through the water and smashes the nearly-dead drown, and it sinks beneath the waves as blood billows to the surface. Quickly assuming more important matters, Sariel shouts some potent words of power, empowering Sureiya's attacks and sliding both the dragonborn and the ranger towards the fray.

Sureiya takes advantage of this boost by leaping directly into combat with the last remaining monstrosity, hacking into its flesh with a vicious slash of his sword. Though he misses with the first blow, the second leaves a gaping wound in the drown's chest, and it staggers from the blood loss, looking like it will be even more wounded by any follow-ups.

Sariel's templar's fist hits the drown despite cover (close burst ignores total concealment) for 15 psychic damage, killing it.
Sariel uses adaptive stratagem, granting Sureiya a +5 bonus to damage and +3 bonus to saves.
Sariel uses reorient the axis, allowing Torinn and Sureiya to shift.
Sureiya sets his quarry and moves.
Sureiya uses lashing leaves, which misses once and hits once for 20 damage (adaptive stratagem bonus added). The drown takes 2 extra damage when it is hit.

Sariel plants the battle standard firmly on the docks, and Torinn descends back into the submarine as the rest of the adventurers tend to their wounds (short rest).

The dragonborn finds Sid observing the happenings form below using the periscope. He nods to Torinn and steps away as the paladin approaches, saying, "Great Oghma, what a fight! Seems we won't have an easy time of it..." Sid hesitates for a moment, then hands the dragonborn a scroll tube. "Here's another copy of the ritual scroll for the ritual you need to cast. Take the Leyline Tracer X-Traordinare and work your way through the ruins until you find it... I'll keep an eye on the UB0AT. Don't worry, if trouble heads out here, I'll seal the hatch and keep them out!"

Sureiya, for his part, discovers the gate before him that appears to lead into a marble-like structure of eladrin design is the best way forward. You can make out several more structures behind the one most forward that the gate appears to lead into, but they are behind a large off-white wall of the same material, and it would seem hazardous to attempt to scale it. Given the location, and the view from the docks, it would appear that these buildings are quite likely partially submerged in water, unless they are completely airtight.

Sureiya also identifies several subtle (not glowing), yet large runes engraved into the walls, and these appear to be the source of the light that illuminates the cavern.
