PART 1

Alright everyone, this is the post I plan to make later, please read it and tell me if it meets with your approval. I think I made it suitably dramatic, so it sure will be funny if this isn‘t even close to the solution. Post any comments you have/additions you can think of/errors you find, and I will modify the post tomorrow as needed.

Alright Kinjo, steel yourself, for this is the truth! The one, final, perfect truth that the members of /Seacats/ have reached after our thousand-year journey! If we are correct in our reasoning, then you have been completely exposed, and you will not be able to stand against the onslaught which is soon to follow. We have read your narrative, examined the clues, and hereby declare our solution to this twisted tale. No more shall the vile criminal roam freely to disgrace the will of the living. The demands of justice must be satisfied, and a remorseless killer given their due. With this, it is our intention to deliver in full. The catbox you’ve so painstakingly crafted has at long last been torn asunder, it’s guts drawn out for all to cast their shimmering eyes upon.

So then endless witch Kinjo, Highmaster of the Inquisition and current Territory Lord of Rokkenjima,

The true culprit…..

[sp]…………IS YOU![/sp]

That’s right you crafty bastard, you did it. You smiled as we ran about in circles attempting to reason things out, no doubt with the grandest of expressions decorating your visage the entire time; you even went so far as to point a gun right at us as you announced the completion of your treasured tale. And of course, every step along the way, we fell for it, but no longer - the charade you’ve been putting on ends here. I am certain though, that you won’t be satisfied until I put this in a language with which you are so dangerously familiar, so with that I’ll digress with my monologue and make it official:

Doctor Nanjo is the culprit of Inquisition of the golden witch!

There are three main questions we need to answer in order for us to completely shatter the veil that surrounds this mystery. The first of these, the WHODUNNIT, has been answered, and will be further elaborated upon in the proceeding passages. I’ll now describe to you in detail the WHYDUNNIT, the explanation as to why the good doctor would go so far as to murder the entire Ushiromiya clan in cold blood.
Simply put, he needed money, in all likelihood a lot of it, right now. Before Nanjo goes on to tell his story about his talk with Kinzo, he mentions his granddaughter, a young girl whom he rather hesitantly describes as suffering from an obscure mental disorder. At first glance, one might be tempted to dismiss the nature of this mysterious girl’s illness as being unimportant, but if we look a little more closely, isn’t it odd how there just so happens to be an individual of such description living on this very island? That’s right Kinjo, I’m saying that Nanjo’s unnamed granddaughter is none other than Yasu herself! How this came to be is anyone’s guess. It’s most likely the case that after Natsuhi’s abandoning of the child, Nanjo took pity on her after saving her life, and so decided to adopt her as his own granddaughter. This is why she was selected to work at the Ushiromiya mansion. Therefore, because of this, Nanjo had a clear and discernable motive, one which was clearly hinted at in the story. Nanjo, assuming Erika goes to the guesthouse, is also the very first person in the game encountered. Both Knox’s 8th and Knox 1st are satisfied by this theory.

Now, while this choice of culprit and motive adhere to Knox, what about Van Dine? You would be correct in saying that Nanjo was far from alone when it comes to his desire for money, after all, it’s a well known fact at this point that as a collective group, the Ushiromiya family’s ability to manage their incredible wealth is notoriously poor. However, in this highly unusual Kakera, Nanjo’s situation is unique. This is where Krauss’s discussion with his siblings comes in. Ordinarily, Kinzo would probably have left a will or something similar declaring his final wishes. Nanjo, being one of Kinzo’s closest confidents, would naturally assume he’d be included, due to receive his fair share as compensation for all of the miserable years he wasted playing chess with the old warlock. However, in this fragment, the inheritance is not distributed in such a way; in this fragment, Krauss buckles under the pressure and decides to reveal his father’s passing. Truly, this was a one-in-a-million occurrence, a Miracle. That is to say of course, a miracle to everyone BUT Nanjo. That’s because, on this Rokkenjima, Krauss authoritatively takes the position of the headship upon himself; this includes all of the responsibilities that go with it, including the distribution of the inheritance. Certainly, this was not something Nanjo would ever have thought likely to happen. The second Nanjo found out that the siblings would be dividing up their claims to the money equally, I’m sure he did quite the double take. With all of the issues(especially his failing marriage) on his mind, as well as with his recently repaired family relationships, Krauss probably didn’t even give Nanjo a second thought. After all, the physician was an old friend of Kinzo’s, not Krauss’s. At this point, Nanjo probably realized he wouldn’t be getting so much as a penny of Kinzo’s money. He couldn’t take it any longer, the combined stresses of his financial situation and Sayo’s condition worsening due to Battler’s absence caused him to snap. Because the siblings money issues were taken care of, but Nanjo’s remained, VD 19 is hereby satisfied, the motive was indeed highly personal. Also note that because Nanjo is technically a family associate/employee,a nd is not on the servant’s roster, VD 11 is hereby satisfied as well.

Therefore, With this, the WHYDUNNIT is solved.

Are you starting to sweat yet Kinjo? Has your flesh gone pale as you feel the witch’s violent power seep coldly and mercilessly out of you? With each of my blues, another one of your precious illusionary barriers is silently shattered. Truth is remorseless.

So then, with culprit and motive each exposed to the light of day, only the final strike remains: The HOWDUNNIT. This is where I really have to give you credit Kinjo, the trick you’ve played on us is absolutely brilliant. Your final and most powerful illusion was in fact your most personal. It may be true that in the past I mentioned you view the characters of this story as mere archetypes, hollow figurines onto which you can impart any warped characteristic your heart desires. With your influence, the dead can live again, or I suppose in this case, the fat can be thin again. You just couldn’t resist turning yourself into a badass bishounen assassin could you? You heard me correctly, I’m saying that in this game, Nanjo is faking his obesity, a clever disguise that not only serves to cast away suspicion, but also one that allows him to performs actions the real Nanjo could only ever dream of.

Now, before you go off spouting Knox’s 8th at us, I hereby propose that your use of the WDK sprites to represent Nanjo was of a far greater importance than mere aesthetic value. What if, in this kakera, Nanjo had maintained that form even into his old age? It really was the cruelest of tricks, truly befitting a witch such as yourself. Truly the probability of Nanjo remaining in such a state is one in a quadrillion. Because then, Nanjo is shown to have been thin once, there exists a precedent for him to be so in the future. Knox’s 8th, no contradictions. Don’t think you can escape using Knox’s 10th either. Because Nanjo was simply disguising his own appearance, and not disguising himself as someone else, there exist no contradictions with this rule either.

Alright then Kinjo, enough reasoning. Let‘s end this. Here is how Nanjo accomplished each twilight, one by one.

1st twilight - Nanjo, being a practicing physician and having medical knowledge, knows precisely how to fake his death after killing the each of the shed victims during the night, including POOR INNOCENT NATSUHI, WHO IS NOT AT ALL THE CULPRIT. How does he fake his death? Simple. He exchanges the body of the dead family head for his own, bashing in the face to conceal his identity, and takes Kinzo’s place on the bed. Erika even says it looks as though he is just sleeping, possibly alluding to the fact that the body in the bed is in fact, not dead, and if she had never seen Kinzo, she wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. A fake death is permissible under VD20 because an artificial body was not used, a real one was. -With this strike, I draw blood.

2nd twilight - As Kinzo’s personal friend, Nanjo would have extensive access to his personal repository of chemicals and other alchemical ingredients. Knowing Kinzo’s eccentricities, it isn’t unlikely he would have poisons that would be capable of causing death. He sets up the trap Erika discovers in the kitchen that kills Rudolph and Kyrie. It is most likely activated remotely, so that the doctor doesn’t accidentally kill Shannon. -With this strike, I tear apart the flesh upon your chest.

3rd twilight - Nanjo has Maria place the mysterious letter after telling her he is possessed by Beatrice earlier. This is supported by the fact that Maria comes to Erika’s defense when the incident occurs; to her, the letter is from Beatrice. If Nanjo’s granddaughter really was Yasu, it would make sense for the letter to be about her. -With this strike, I laugh.

4th twilight - While the others are occupied, Nanjo takes the opportunity to burn Kinzo’s body. Perhaps the two never were the close after all. -With this strike, I gouge your forehead.

5th twilight - Nanjo, being Kinzo’s chess partner, has an intimate enough knowledge of the study to set up a trap inside of it. Potentially having some minor knowledge of the epitaph, he sets a gun to go off at the first person to reach for the atlas. -With this strike, I gouge your wounded chest.

6th twilight - Because he is physically fit in this fragment, as I’ve described, Nanjo is able to climb up to the ledge outside of the study bathroom, and kill Maria from outside, using the secret passageway we’ve discovered. -With this strike, I gouge your stomach.

7th twilight - Rosa is murdered by Nanjo after she leaves with Genji to get first aid for her wounds. - With this strike, I gouge your Knee.

8th twilight - Genji is murdered by Nanjo after he leaves with Rosa to get first aid for her wounds. - With this strike, I gouge your leg. You can no longer stand. The end is imminent.

9th twilight - Krauss is killed while trying to protect Erika. Nanjo unintentionally frames his own adopted granddaughter. - With this strike, I at last finish the vile witch off, may he eternally rest in peace.

This mystery is solved.

Deny it if you can. If not,

It’s checkmate

I'm a bit concerned with saying that Nanjo used Kinzo's corpse as his own in the first twilight. Immediately after Erika wakes up on day 2, it is possible to go to the study and view Kinzo's body "still sleeping" there. In theory, you should be able to idle there until the bodies are discovered.

Yeah that is a problem...

Black Witch Rosa: When you get found by Geni and taken to the 1st twlight. You are automatically forced into the hallway on the first floor. This happened to me dispite being in Kinzo's study when time was up
Black Witch Rosa: And It is unlikey that Kinjo would expect a player to just stay in Kinzo's bedroom, all that time. We were only supposed to get one play through, so naturally people are going to search as many rooms
Black Witch Rosa: as possible.
Black Witch Rosa: There is no reason to suspect that something would happen to Kinzo';s body on your first playthough. No one would just stay in that room unless they actually expected something to happen, like they
Black Witch Rosa: they that kinzo was going to vanish a latter, when they aren't supposed to.

I agree there is a tiny window of time in there where it could happen. But the transition to the first twilight could also happen right after examining Kinzo's body, bear in mind. It's possible that could work, but it's kind of a stretch don't you think?

Well, no matter how we justify Nanjo's fake corpse I think it'll be a stretch, so we should probably just go with whatever works best there.

On a completely unrelated matter, I was almost sure than the roulette scene on the start of Kinjo game contained the first twilight victims, but it was a bit different.
It was Rudolf, Eva, Gohda, Nanjo. And it obviously choose Nanjo, for some comedy relief.

Alright, i'ts finally time, i'll be posting our theory any minute now. And don't forget that i'm just the one making the initial guess. If Kinjo starts to cut things down with the red, any of us can respond to him, it doesn't have to be me.

Well now I know it doesn't seem likely but I've thought since the beginning that the cousin's(who just happened to live) alibi for the first twilight isn't right. Since as we know you can be killed if you go to early to the shed.

So the fact that the went to sleep doesn't mean one or two of them could have slipped out after.

Also, I still can't tell. Didn't Kyrie leave her room during the first?

Apparently that's all than Kinjo is saying about our theory, the howdunnit is wrong because it includes Nanjo.

By now something that's maybe meaningless is getting throught my mind.
Why they included Kanon in the first twilight victims list? And even then, there was no "dummy figure" as Yasu used on ep1. Is this because of the DV 20?

That isn't really fair. He said he would deny each part. "Trick X doesn't" Work and so on.. He should cut down all the other blue.

Could it be possible that Genji and Rudolf lied, and there actually weren't any bodies inside at the time?
