“Among the human world there is some kind of special thing about birthdays, that is the day you were born, to me a witch this seems silly. But humans do seem to like them, so allow me to spin a birthday tale.

This is the story of the birthday of someone who goes by the name Black Witch Rosa online, just a silly name for a guy to pick. So for all intents and purposes his name shall be Rosa when I am referring to him all other humans shall keep the same names since their identity is not important to hide. This story is a work of fiction, hopefully, as Rosa is still alive as of now.”

He pulled open the glass door and entered inside, he smiled at his co-workers as they went about their business. Karly and Haley both were at the front counter and greeted him as he smiled at them. Sean was currently slacking off in between orders as there wasn't much else to do. Anita the manager was checking off the daily close checklist.

It was normal work day, just a normal Wednesday, but that was actually far from the truth as it was his birthday, yes it was Rosa's birthday, but none of his coworkers really knew that, he hadn't mentioned it to anyone accept for Anita, though it was about to come out.

“Hey, Haley.” He said as he approached the front counter and stood in front of the register.

“Getting your usual?” Haley asked.

Rosa was a predictable soul, he almost always ordered the same thing to eat, it was always either 2 spicy chicken, fish or a rodeo chicken. He was a creature of routine and habit, so as such he never really strayed away from his norm, he was in a sense boring that way, but he was also safe, boring, and well upstanding. Or at least that is how he viewed himself, and apparently so did the higher ups since they promoted him from a standard team member to a Closer a few months back, despite a lot of his co-workers having been working for far longer without a promotion or even a raise. Though he wanted more than that, secretly he wasn't happy with just being a Closer, he wanted that manager position, this was not really a secret to his co-workers either.

But before he could answer the door opened and another co-worker entered dressed in her uniform. This would not have been weird had she been actually scheduled to work that day, but she wasn't. She had not reason to be at work, or in her uniform.

“Ginger what are you doing here?”

She wore a bright yellow jacket as well as held a handbag that had a bunch of bananas in it. In all honesty Rosa thought in that outfit she looked like a banana, for she was after all skinny, and if she stretched her arms up into the air could pass for the shape of one.

“You don't work today.” Haley said further explaining to Karly why it was weird that she was showed up.

“I know!” She cried out in somewhat outrage, but being Ginger she couldn't really pass for 'furious' so it came out more like as if a little fluffy dog was barking at you, it just made you want to go 'aww.' “Tim scheduled me on Friday! I refuse to work on Friday, I always work on Wednesdays instead. I told him I was coming to work on Wednesday no matter what.”

Friday was really special to Ginger, it was the one time she could go out on a date with the guy she liked, for they both worked so their schedules never matched expect on Friday.

Haley and Rosa both nodded and went 'Ah,' and went back to something more important.

“Usual?”

“The spicy chickens.”

Haley “I knew it. And you want them plain like normal?”

He nodded as he looked down at the counter, was he really that predictable. “Wait!” He stopped Haley, which surprised her. “I don't want the 2 for 5, I want a large combo meal.” He could almost see the question marks flying over Haley's head. “I'm playing with this.” Rosa then handed Haley a greeting card, or more specifically a birthday card, from the CEO of the company. Written in blue ink on the inside of the card was a personal message from the CEO and telling that he got a free meal.

Haley scared at the card for a long time. “It 's your birthday?” She questioned. To which he nodded, “Well happy birthday.”

“It's your birthday?” Sean joined in on our conversation. Rosa nodded in reply. “I'll make your sandwich special then.”

Haley then turned to Ginger. “Getting anything?”

“Yeah, I'll get banana ripple cone.”

And so things went on like normal with Rosa chatting with his co-workers about how they were doing and then getting off on tangents. The current topic was Sean's recently 2 week notice he put in, he was quitting.

Rosa turned to Ginger “Have you put your 2 week notice in yet Ginger?” Ginger had told him weeks ago that she was going to quit, so he had been wondering just when was she going to actually do it, since he liked working with her.

“Not yet.” She answered. “Tim wanted me to work on Friday, and when he asked why I couldn't I told him, 'give me a raise and I'll explain my reason.'” Ginger went on explaining just why she going to be working today.

“Alright everybody stop standing around.” Haley shouted to everyone, she had been trying to be more authoritative lately to impress Tim.

But she broke that professional-ism instantly as she tripped Karly, for Haley was a jokester.

“Haley knock it off.” Both Anita and Rosa said, both of them after working with Haley had had enough of her pranks.

“If you got time to lean, you got time to clean.” Ginger said her catch phrase. Well it was one of her catch phrases the other was only said when no customers were around due to being inappropriate.

“But first.” Anita confused everyone by heading into the office and then coming out holding something. “Happy birthday Rosa.”

It was cupcake. A birthday cupcake, Anita had told him she was going to give him one, but he never actually thought she would.

Everyone seemed to want to get in on the surprises now. Sean made Rosa a special rodeo crispy sandwich, Haley made one of her special cheery Icee floats from the shake and the Icee machine. Karly being in dance preformed a dance from Rosa. Ginger pulled some fruit shakes out of her bag, there were 5 of them each of them a different flavor and let Rosa pick any one he wanted.

Rosa thanked each of them for their wishes and enjoyed all of their gifts.

Shortly after Rosa dropped dead.

A murder had taken place at his workplace.



“Birthdays are such fun. Can you explain to me Who, How, and Why the culprit killed Rosa, before his birthday ends so he can rest in peace? Additional information is available on request as well as if the game is not solved before his birthday ends more clues will be revealed.”

Ginger had determined that she would get to work on a Wednesday, not a Friday. But you can't just walk in and demand a shift in a work environment. The only chance you have is if one of your co-workers are sick...or dead. What's the evidence that Ginger did these heinous deeds?The truth is in the bananas. Even though Ginger already has an assortment of bananas with her, she asks for a "banana ripple cone.” Why? Because her bananas are lethal! She's also the only one who didn't act surprised at knowing Rosa's birthday, even though Rosa never told her. I'm sorry, Rosa. It was the bananas that did you in. Rest in piece.

Fun fact, Ginger said about her shift the night before to me and she actually did come in and demand a shift from our store manager, he allowed her to work that day. (yesterday/today) Also another creepy fun fact, when I went into work yesterday/today, Haley and Karly were the two people at the front counter and Ginger came in, Haley also tried to get me to order a spicy and Ginger got a banana smoothie before starting her shift.
