The second thread of my game with Kinjo. Yes that is right, the second thread.

Hmm? "I can't find the first thread" you say? Perfectly understandable. I'll explain.

On October 5th a radio signal was heard coming from Rokkenjima. Police were sent to investigate and confirmed a murder had occurred. Kinjo quickly rushed to the scene with a team of men to investigate however the storm picked up again preventing any reinforcements from getting to the island. Before the storm cleared up disaster struck! Who knows what happened next?

Let us resume the game and find out.

Now that the game is over you can read the first thread here.

For those who want a legitimate answer:

I've been playing a short RP game with Kinjo on a secret board up until now. Seems a bomb or something went off and destroyed all the evidence, even the first thread as well!

Slowly the fuzzy outline of shapes and images makes its way into your mind. You can hear sounds, and eventually you can open your eyes. You continue to stare at the ceiling from quite some time. In a confused daze you look around the room and deduce you are in the hospital room. What had happened? You were running and…

The door to the room open up and in walks a doctor. You recognise him as your old buddy and pal Ozaki. “I know you have a lot of questions but first we’ll need to make sure you are ok.” He states.

He does a generally checkup and confirms that you’ll live at least. You broke a number of bones and ruptured a few organs, but the pain killers seem to be making you oblivious to that.
Ozaki begins to explain what happened.

“The police don’t know exactly how it happened, but the majority of the island is now just a large crater. Witnesses say it was an explosion of some sort."

What he says next shocks you, “Kinjo… you were the only survivor out of all the men who went to investigate. Your team and the Niijima policemen; all of them died. Some of the bodies were mangled by the force of the blast to the point we need the dental records to confirm.”
That leaves you numb. Juichi, Suzuki, Minami, and all of the Niijima policemen. Dead.

It seems that you stopped paying attention and Ozaki left, judging from the sun you have been blanking out for a good few hours when Ozaki returns. You tell him you want to know more.

Ozaki continues to explain that all of the buildings are gone, and no traces of Ushiromiya family or the others said to be on the island were found. The blast destroyed all of the evidence and crime scenes. It takes you awhile to notice, but Ozaki is staring at you.

“The news companies are having a field day with the whole affair. Rumors about Kinzo dabbling in Satanism and dark magic sort of rituals. The point of the matter is… you are the only one who knows anything about what happened there."

Ozaki stands up and looks out of the window. He continues to say, “You are really lucky to have a friend like me, otherwise all the other officers would be interrogating you in your sick bed. Now that being said…"

He pulls out a few pieces of paper and hands them to you. They are Juichi’s drawings of the crime scenes. “You had these in your pockets. They are probably the only physical information left. Maybe these will help.” He sits down beside you again, pulling a chair up and putting his head down and waiting for you to talk.

“You are really unlucky to have me as a friend, unlike the policemen there is nobody to stop me from interrogating you. Well then Kinjo, tell me, what do you recollect?”

"Well, I'll do my best to remember. My group went to Rokkenjima around 12:00 noon. It was raining really hard and we already knew 8 people had been killed, but by the time we got there, 16 of the 18 bodies had been found...

Captain Yamamoto showed me around to each crime scene. The first one, the dining room... The six adults, Krauss, Natsuhi, Eva, Hideyoshi, Rudolf, and Kyrie, were found dead holding hands across the dining room table. They all had gunshot wounds to the head, and Rudolf and Kyrie, their wounds were in the back of their heads. It was theorized that the culprit stood by the doorway and shot Rudolf and Kyrie. Three unloaded rifles and five master keys were also found on the table. The room was locked when the Niijima officers arrived, so you might call it a closed room mystery.

Oh, also, the door to the dining room had a circle with the number 1 drawn on it. So the second crime scene, the kitchen, it had a circle with the number 2 drawn on it. Inside were Jessica and Kanon, on the kitchen's island, blood everywhere. They were tied by a rope which was attached to the ceiling in some obnoxious way, holding one of the doors shut by their combined weight. I think they were both shot, despite being hung by the rope. The kitchen key was also found in the room as shown in the diagram, and the room was locked, so it's another closed room.

The circle with a 3 on it was on the portrait of Beatrice in the main hallway. Then 4, 5, and 6 were found on the parlor's door. Inside were Rosa, Gohda, and Genji. Again, I'm pretty sure they were... shot... at least, damaged on their heads. I remember finding some bags in the trash can nearby, as if the culprit used them to keep blood off themselves when killing. The key to the garden shed was found locked inside the parlor... and when we went to the garden shed, we found the key to the parlor locked inside of it. We also found on the shutter door the number 7 and inside, the body of George, hanging from a rope. However, he was definitely shot, in the chest... But there was something strange about the shape of the blood spatter underneath him. So those are also two closed rooms.

Then, in the guesthouse lobby, Nanjo and Kumasawa were found dead. 8 and 9 were on the door. Their necks had been sliced open, and they died from that. No signs of a struggle or anything in the room, and the key to the lobby was locked inside, another closed room. And in Kinzo's chapel, we found Battler and Shannon, both of them... I think their heads were damaged too. I know there was another rifle found by her body alongside ammo. Inside we found the chapel key, so the chapel was a closed room too. The door also had a 9 on it, and couldn't be opened by a master key, while the guesthouse's room could.

Oh, and in the mansion, I checked out the servant's room. There were five servants that day. Gohda, Genji, Kumasawa, Shannon, and Kanon. Kinzo, the head of the family, wasn't anywhere to be found, but we did find documents suggesting he was already dead and his death was being covered up. And lastly, Rosa's daughter Maria was found dead below the cliffs of Rokkenjima, it's clear she fell to her death. She wrote in a diary, something about Beato following the epitaph, and about her mother's love. And she wrote that Beato was in the chapel with Battler...

...Lastly, our group found Kinzo's hidden gold, underneath the island, and it was all hooked up to a giant bomb, which exploded and... now I'm here. I tried to stop it by drinking vodka but I guess that didn't work, huh?"

Alright Kinjo here are the rules for the end game.

You must solve the game with only what you remember and the notes Juichi left you. This being said I did not make this game to be extremely challenging, so you will be allowed unlimited blues for all the howdunits. For the who/why you will get three attempts, and the why is considered a bonus so I won't force you to answer it.

Now unlimited blues really would make it far too easy, so we'll add another factor. You can choose this one.
Either we'll use CRB rules and we must debate within a 5 minutes gap of responding to each other. Or a set time limit, say 1 or 2 hours, to a howdunit. The exact specifications of either are negotiable. Feel free to pick whichever you find most entertaining.

Finally, should you go over any time limit it will be considered your loss, however you may still post blues. The difference will be that anyone else is allowed to start posting at that point too. I will also post some extra information making it much easier for them to comprehend the gameboard and help you as well.

Those are the rules. I'll be waiting for your decision.

First Twilight. The dining room.

There are only five master keys. The five keys said to be be the master keys are truly said keys.

The culprit is... Captain Yamamoto!!!

Lieutenant Yamamoto was Kinzo's superior during World War II. Therefore, Yamamoto's descendant (Captain Yamamoto) would have knowledge of the military base and ten tons of gold underneath Rokkenjima.

Yamamoto sent his men to the island beforehand, secretly killing the Ushiromiya family one by one. The reason I was called over was so that I could investigate and "conclude" a certain truth about the incident, that one of the 18 people was the culprit, rather than Yamamoto's group.

Each closed room can be explained very easily under this theory. After all, the rooms were all broken into once I arrived, so I can't be certain of anything Yamamoto tells me. Yamamoto even admitted taking one of the master keys himself, but that's probably only a cover for when forensics finds his fingerprints on the key, which was obviously used when he went around killing everyone.

Yamamoto also drew the numbers on the doors, trying to make it seem like the murders were all according to Beatrice's epitaph. However, he misread it, as the epitaph is a "map" to finding Kinzo's hidden gold (which Yamamoto already knew about, and thus did not need a map).

The first closed room is simple. Yamamoto and his men killed the six, placed the three rifles on the table, along with four of the master keys. We'll return here in a moment.

Yamamoto then killed the others, in whatever order necessary. He then placed them in various rooms. For the second murder, he used his rope-tying skills from the military to tie up Jessica and Kanon. Then he placed the kitchen key inside and locked it using his master key.

Then he shot George and hanged his body in the shed. He placed the parlor key inside and locked it with the shed key. He killed Rosa, Gohda, and Genji, moved them to the parlor, where he disposed of the bags he used and locked the door using his master key.

He also went to the guesthouse, killing Nanjo and Kumasawa with an army knife, and he placed the lobby key inside, locking it with his master key once again.

Lastly, he killed Battler and Shannon, placing the chapel key near her corpse. He then broke down the door and would later claim that it was locked, making the illusion of a closed room. He also made this illusion for the dining room, since after committing all these murders he went back and placed the master key with the other four, pretending that door had also been locked.

And Maria, who tried to escape, was killed by Yamamoto's men who were "searching" for her. If only I had realized it sooner, I could have saved her!

But all of this was a set up, Yamamoto wanted the gold and he wanted the Ushiromiya family out of his way. He wanted me to pin the crime on somebody, and only after I did so did he lead me to the gold's whereabouts. I'm sure he also set up the bomb himself, hiding with his accomplices away safely. That way, he could fake his death and steal all of the gold for himself, while killing the only person who knew the truth, me, in the process.

But his plan failed!!!

Sadly, None of the policemen ever killed, at least during this game.

Furthermore, None of the policemen created the closed rooms or messed with the crime scene after breaking into the rooms. Any keys they used were put back to where they found them.

Nice try, but no cigar. Oh and just to be clear, one room at a time.

The culprit gave Maria the master keys after all the other murders had been committed, and Maria entered the room using it, locked it from the inside, and placed the keys on the table. Maria then hid inside the room until the officers broke in and failed to find her. She then escaped the room by the time I got there.

...Correct. The culprit set it up to block the door and make it seem like the lock had been set. They broke the rest of the chairs so the police wouldn't notice a lone chair in front of the door.

The door was effectively sealed, so while it wasn't locked it also wasn't able to be opened. We'll start the second one once you are ready.

Same thing, but a different room. The weights of Kanon and Jessica were holding down the door shut when it wasn't really locked. The parlor key fell out of George's pocket, which happened when he was hanged by the culprit. The lack of blood in the rectangular shape means that something was blocking the blood, i.e. a box, or even a gold bar (depending on the size). So the blood got on that object, and that object was then removed from the area. The shed was then locked using the shed key from the outside.

The culprit then went to the parlor and killed the three there. However, it's this room that Maria went back to and placed the key near her mother's corpse, hid, and then escaped unnoticed by the police.

The shed's shutter can be closed without the shed key. The key is just to lock it, but if the shed was never locked then George was actually killed later, and so the parlor key can be used to lock the parlor.

I can still solve the parlor without solving the shed. The culprit killed everyone in the parlor and placed the shed key by Rosa. Then the culprit left the room and locked it with the parlor key.

True. I did say we were taking this one room at a time, so I'll allow it.

The parlor was locked with parlor key after placing the shed key in the room.

We'll stop here for tonight.

The shed door must have already been locked when the culprit placed George's body inside! The culprit entered and exited through the window, which they didn't lock from the outside because it was never locked at all!

When the window and shutter are shut and locked it is impossible for someone to enter or leave the shed.

The shutter can only be locked when it is closed.

George pretended to "hang" himself, but the culprit shot him from outside the shed standing directly in front of the shutter. George had pressed the button inside the shed to close the shutter and so just after he was shot the door closed on its own, and perhaps by some feature installed in the shed it also locked itself.

I'll take it.

When the door is locked you can push up the side of the shutter and slip something under it.

Keeps people out fine, but keys are another thing altogether. I really should have just said your bullet hole theory was the truth instead, would have been a lot cooler.

Alright guesthouse once you are ready.
