This is my second game, and I'll try to make it a good one. It's a more complicated mystery.

- The format is a standard blue and red battle. Post a theory in blue, I'll counter with the red.

-Any number of people can participate.

-You have to find the whodunnit, and the howdunnit.

Also, Genji is the detective.

Without any further ado, let's begin.

--

Kinzo Ushiromiya was ill, bad tempered and above all very, very mad.

When he heard the Ushiromiya family was coming over for the family conference, he got even madder.

"A hundred bucks they'll come and try to kill me for the inheritence" he growled.

"Yes, master," said Genji.

"Goddamit, I won't die by anything but by my very own hands."

"Yes, master."

"Genji."

"Yes, master."

"Go into town and buy a fucking thick ass bulletproof vest. I'm not about to let any Tom Dick and Harry shoot me in the chest."

"Certainly, Master."

So Genji rung up some of his old Yakuza associates and got a high end Kevlar vest. He gave it to his Master, who immediately began wearing it wherever he went, even including when he went to bathe and when he went to sleep. From that point on Kinzo would never take off his vest willingly.

"I'll hide this under my cloak so no one can see what I'm up to," the old man chuckled, once the two were back in the study.

"I'm glad you're happy, Master," Genji said, and turned to leave.

"Goddammit, Genji!"

"Master?"

"The infernal door! It's all wrong!"

"What's wrong, Master?"

"It fucking lets people in, that's the problem!"

"I imagine that is the general function of doors, Master. In any case, there are only two keys to this study, both on our possession, so I imagine that the study is quite safe - "

"Fuck THAT, Genji. Ring up a contractor and get one of those newfangled keypad thingies. Now that's the real shit."

So Genji rang up another one of his contacts had him install a keypad on the door. Now there was no way anyone could enter the door without typing in the correct code.

"And only I know the code," laughed Kinzo. Then he paused. "But what if I forget it?"

"Perhaps you could tell the code to me, Master."

"Goddamit Genji, that's no use. Someone could torture you and beat the code out of you. No - I'm gonna tell the code to someone so idiotic and brainless no one would even think that I shared my secret with such a worthless guy."

He paused for dramatic effect. "I'll tell Gohda."

"If you wish, Master."

Later in the day Kinzo took a look outside the window. At once he grabbed the phone, nearly tearing it out of the wall.

"GODDAMMIT GENJI GET UP HERE."

In ten seconds Genji stood panting outside the study. Kinzo opened the door and let him in.

"Take a look outside the window, and tell me what you see."

Genji looked, and gave his best answer. "The ground."

"Goddamit Genji, I mean that pipe running up the building! What the HIDEOUS fuck is that shit doing there? People could climb up, break the window and MURDER me to death! Remove it at once!"

"Yes, Master. At once, Master."

So Genji got a ladder, unscrewed everything, and the whole pipe came falling down. Now no human could climb up or down the building.

At last, the day of the family conference came. Genji served drinks to the family to the parlor on the first floor.

"Wine's as plentiful as ever, buddy," Rudolf said. But he was the only one who even noticed the servant's presence. The others were busy arguing.

"How dare you accuse me if illegal practices!" yelled Krauss. "What makes you think that pyramid thing's outlawed, anyway!"

"Because the government says so!" Kyrie held up a thin booklet of Japanese economic laws.

"Just admit it, you're out of money!" sneered Eva.

"How dare you make such baseless accusations!" Natsuhi snapped.

"Hurble burble," said Hideyoshi, snoring on the couch.

Genji left them to it and delivered the Master's meal to the second floor study. Of course, he had to wait for Kinzo to open the door before he could enter.

"Aaah, Genji, it's a good day to not die," Kinzo was in high spirits. "With all the precautions I've taken, who can possibly kill me?"

"No one, Master."

Satisfied that everything was in order, Genji retired to the servant's room and began reading.

After one hour had passed -

BANG!

That sounded like a gunshot! And it came from the Master's study!

Genji ran up the stair to check, but the door was closed. He called the Master but there was no response. He needed Gohda to open the door, so Genji went back downstairs. The chef wasn't in the kitchen, so Genji went to the parlor.

All the family members were still there arguing, and Gohda was serving them tea.

"Gohda, something's happened." Genji

He said this a little too loudly, and all the family heard him. So when Genji went upstairs with Gohda, the rest of the family followed in excitement. When they reached the door Gohda typed in the code.

ERROR!

"Huh? It's says error?!"

"Dude, now's not the time for your clumsy fingers!" Rudolf pushed him aside. "Tell me the code, I'll type it for you."

Gohda, the ever simple soul, said, "It's 429506."

Rudolf typed the numbers.

ACCESS GRANTED.

Rudolf immediately rushed in, followed by all the others. Genji was the last inside, and he saw -

Kinzo, lying on the floor, dead.

There was a small hole in his clothes, exposing the bulletproof vest underneath.

"But how could someone have killed him? It's a locked room!"

"Not quite."

The window was wide open. Genji walked over to it, examining it in detail. Could this be a clue…?

Kinzo didn't die of a gunshot wound. He was poisoned and while looking out the window died from that. The gunshot was then used to draw attention to the study so they would investigate.

Or alternatively, Someone climbed a tree and shot Kinzo while he looked out of the window. The pressure from the impact on the bullet proof vest made his heart stop.

As for the culprit, lets try Gohda seeing how he was insulted by Kinzo and couldn't be found shortly after the gunshot was heard.

>>15107

Kinzo did not die of poison.

There are no trees around the mansion.

Kinzo would not get a heart attack from the impact.

Gohda is not the culprit!

And, dare I say, the mystery of the error message of the keypad still remains.

Lets reword this a bit shall we? My theory was essentially that an object entered through the window and said object caused Kinzo to die. Whether it caused him a heart attack or if there was trees doesn't really matter.

Since you've stated "Now there was no way anyone could enter the door without typing in the correct code." it is assumed that propping open the door won't work, the same is implied if someone snuck in after the combo had been pressed by another person. However it is possible that Gohda isn't the only one to know the combo. As Kinzo said he isn't very smart.

While we are at it can we confirm that the detective can't be the culprit?

Oo! Let me give it a try! Hmm…I don’t know when but…

Someone changed the keypad code.

As for Kinzo’s death...It's possible that the murder weapon that killed him was already inside his study before he died. So here's a theory, A gun was attach to a cook mechanical kitchen timer, timed to shoot Kinzo during the family conference. Despite him wearing a bullet proof vest, the bullet either went through the lining or missed the jacket altogether and struck him in the heart.

I think can account for the window being opened too.

Kinzo was yelling outside the window, doing his typical ‘BEAAAATORICHEEE!' scream, until he was shot.

Admittedly I may have tripped myself up with the red there. Lemme clear it up before things get messy.

The propping open the door method was a viable one, and was indeed used at one point in time.

But -

No object entered through the window.

As for your second blue -

Gohda never told anyone the combo except Rudolf at the end.

The keypad code remained the same throughout.

Kinzo's vest was infallible. If shot by a normal gun he would not die via the impact or heart attack or any other random cause.

The hole was found in the center of his chest.

Also because of the angle of the building no one could shoot Kinzo from the ground. And climbing up to the window is impossible. Therefore how could have someone shot Kinzo from the window?

Wait, wait, I might’ve caused some confusion with my wording so let me try to reword that, While Kinzo was standing near the window, there was a gun attach to a cook mechanical kitchen timer already placed inside his study, set to shoot him at a specific time.

Kinzo's vest was infallible. And he was shot in the vest.

But I might as well deny it completely.

There was no such trap like you described

And here's one more for you.

When the others discovered the body, there was no gun left in the room.

Hmm...Let’s see...Kinzo was shot in the vest...there was no gun left in the room. Couldn't that mean that culprit attempted to shoot Kinzo perhaps from a distances exceeding detection capabilities? Maybe outside the room? Through a window? Likely with a sniper? I did hear that most rifle rounds are capable of penetrating bullet vests. Lemme try this,

The culprit shot Kinzo with a sniper rifle from a concealed place, outside Kinzo's study.
>> No. 15116 edit

Actually, I denied that earlier.

Maybe the wide open window was just a red herring… Okay let me try this theory.

Kinzo unknowingly opened the door for the culprit, probably assuming it was one of his servants. This then gave the culprit a clear shot in shooting Kinzo. Once the culprit shot Kinzo, the culprit then opened the window for a cover up, and then fled the scene, closing the door behind them before Genji ran up the stairs and seen the door closed.

kuku...

kukukuku...

That's a fine theory indeed, a very logical one, but you've forgot just one minor thing.

The whole time between the gunshot and the body's discovery, no one could exited through the door.

Genji was running up and down the whole time , wasn't he? He didn't see anyone. No one was in the corridor or in the stairs during the time period previously mentioned above.

Furthermore, Genji saw all the siblings plus Gohda in the parlor after discovering the door was closed.

Oh, and before you try it...

Jumping out the window would result in certain death.

Sure, it was easy to get in. But how would the culprit get out?

Maybe..

The culprit never left Kinzo's study to begin with. The culprit hid somewhere in the room.

Hmm...If that's the case, I think I should at least say where.

The culprit is hiding under the bed or in the closet.

Probably not.

The culprit is hiding in the ceiling.

I don't think so...OOo! Here's a new hiding spot I think Beatrice didn't say!

The culprit is hiding in the plate armour.

Smashing this blue is easy!

Genji saw all the siblings plus Gohda in the parlor after discovering the door was closed.

And the culprit is among these people!

How could someone be in the parlor and hiding in the study at the same time?!

Okay, let's backtrack then.

When Genji went back downstairs, looking for Gohda in the kitchen, that's when the culprit fled the scene, closing the door as they exited Kinzo's study, giving the culprit enough time to join the others in the parlor.
>> No. 15128 edit

The whole time between the gunshot and the body's discovery, no one exited through the door.

Slipping through the red is impossible.

I'm not giving up yet! How about this.

From the time of the gunshot was heard by Genji until Kinzo's body was discovered-after shooting Kinzo, my guess is with a gun sound suppressor-the culprit had already exited through the door during the one hour Genji was reading in the servant's room

But still, I have to account for the a gunshot that was heard. So, let's say...

The gunshot that Genji heard was only the culprit discharging the firearm for another cover up OR what Ozaki said, to draw attention to the study so they would investigate.

Take this, you slippery blue snake!

There was only one gunshot, and that was the very gunshot that fired a bullet into Kinzo's chest! It was also the exact same gunshot Genji heard!

And you still have many mysteries to solve!

1) How the culprit got in

2) How the culprit got out

3) How Kinzo died

4) Why the keypad showed an error message

No clue about the locked room at the moment, but the way you worded that it seems like we can tackle those mysteries separately. So, the mystery of the ERROR message...

Gohda intentionally or unintentionally messed up and entered the wrong combo.

For some reason the lock secretly checks fingerprints while someone enters a code, and Kinzo made it so only certain people can enter with the correct code while others get an ERROR message regardless.
Since that's literally what I used somewhere else, I just have to try.
>> No. 15135 edit
Gohda really did enter the correct combo.

The lock does not check for fingerprints. And as long as anyone knows the combo, regardless of identity they still could enter.
>> No. 15136 edit
Hm... maybe this is already denied by the red about Gohda entering the correct combo, but...

When they got to the door, there were some digits pre-entered on the lock. So when Gohda added the correct combo to that, it still ended up being the wrong code. After the ERROR it reset and consequently worked the next time.
>> No. 15137 edit

No digits were preset on the keypad.

I don't know... these are my best guesses so far...

Kinzo did not die from the gunshot, he was stabbed by a knife that came with the meal Genji gave him

The hole and the gunshot was a result of him testing the bullet proof vest.

Kinzo died before Genji entered the room. with Rudolf

Kinzo died before Rudolf and the rest entered the room. He was not killed with a knife.

But what's this...? Heh, not bad.

Kinzo indeed did not die from a gunshot.

The hole was caused by the culprit shooting Kinzo yet failing to kill him. Kinzo died from something else in the room.

I'm surprised no-one's tried this yet.

Genji never removed the ladder after removing the drainpipe. The culprit left through the window after killing Kinzo, and used the ladder to escape.
>> No. 15254 edit

Genji locked the ladder in the gardening shed after using it. The ladder was not involved in the murder.

Well then.

The culprit used the phone cord of the wall-mounted phone, or some other cable-like object in the room, to climb out of the window.

Oh and about that error thing.
The culprit put something between the doorframe when Genji brought Kinzo his meal. To keep it open for the murder later.

Later it was still in the door causing an ERROR. After seeing this the culprit secretly removed it.

Wha - I was defeated in one fell swoop?!

It's close enough. Here's the full solution. Rudolf was the culprit, and after secretly following Genji up when serving his Master's meal, Rudolf used the economics booklet mentioned earlier to prop the door open for later. Once Genji had left Rudolf entered and shot Kinzo, however upon finding that it failed quickly took the telephone cord and strangled Kinzo to death with it.

He then tied the cord to the desk and climbed down to the first floor, reaching the parlor just in time for Genji to see him. When they all went up to the study and Gohda typed the code, it indeed showed error because the door wasn't fully closed. When Rudolf typed the code he kicked the booklet away and closed the door and managed to get the keypad working. Since Rudolf was the first one in he managed to remove the booklet and the cord before anyone could properly examine them.

Good job. Til the next time.
>> No. 15257 edit
Heh, so everything the killer used was actually mentioned in the narrative. Good job.

The red about the window being impossible to climb out of threw me off since I assumed this included any possible equipment. I'll make sure to ask for clarification next time. Until then.
