This is my first game, and I'll try to make it a good one. It's a simple one-off mystery.

- The format is a standard blue and red battle. Post a theory in blue, I'll counter with the red.

-Any number of people can participate.

-You have to find the whodunnit, howdunnit and whydunnit. The game will end once all three mysteries have been solved.

Also, Jessica is the detective.

Without any further ado, let's begin.

--

Jessica woke up that day in a state of great excitement. George and his family were coming to visit the island today. The adults she didn't particularly care about, but she hadn't seen her cousin George in two years, and she was incredibly pumped to meet him after so long.

On duty were the servants Shannon, Gohda and Genji. Krauss and Natsuhi were present as well. George and his parents, Hideyoshi and Eva, arrived on the boat on the scheduled time, and Jessica was amazed to see the lanky, nervous lonely boy from two years ago now shake hands with everyone like he was a perfect gentlemen. Once they began talking, though, it was clear deep down he was the same old George she knew and loved.

As the adults retired to the sitting room, Jessica and George went upstairs and began catching up on all their lost years. To Jessica's surprise, George suddenly excused himself prematurely and said he had to go get a drink. Curious, Jessica followed him in secret, and saw him in the arbor sitting with Shannon, and he was fixing a wedding ring on her finger. Ah, so that's what it was…!

As Jessica crept back with a huge grin on her face, she passed by the sitting room where the adults were. Immediately she heard shouting and arguing coming from within, and she quickly walked past. Ever since Kinzo's death the family inheritance had become a hot topic of discord amongst the adults, and Jessica never quite got used to all the fighting.

Dinner that night was a tense affair, due to the aftereffects of the family conference. Natsuhi in particular was trembling so hard she nearly snapped the cutlery. Only George remained unaffected and unaware, retaining his usual self, and even making cheerful remarks to Shannon as she served him. That night, as Jessica was going to bed, she passed by the sitting room again and heard arguing again. They were still at it again…?

But as she listened closer, she realised there were only two people arguing - Eva and Hideyoshi. That was strange. Why would these two, usually united, be fighting so fiercely? She tried to listen further, but she couldn't make out their conversation. In the end she went to bed.

She was awoken in the middle of the night by a loud commotion. When she hurried downstairs, she saw four people - George, Krauss, Genji and Shannon huddled outside a room. It was the room that Eva and Hideyoshi was staying in.

George was in hysterics. "My father and mother to come here in the middle of the night. But the door is locked and they're not answering."

In this game, there are no master keys. So neither Genji or Shannon could open the door. So Jessica went with the servants to fetch a dining cart, and by pure force they rammed it into the door and broke it off its hinges.

Inside, they found…

Eva lying on the bed, throat slit.

Hideyoshi lying inside the bathroom, half naked, throat slit.

The windows are locked. The door and the windows are the only entrances.

The only two areas are the bedroom and the bathroom.

And there's something strange. Genji walks over and finds something on the table. It's the only key to the room.

But how could they have been killed inside the room if the door was locked from the outside without the key?

It's a locked room murder. Jessica sinks to the floor and grabs her head. How, how on earth could such an impossible thing like this happen…?

Either Eva or Hideyoshi killed each other! They slit the other's throat and then committed suicide afterward!

The door wasn't locked, it was just somehow blocked. Not having the key around, they never tried unlocking it.

What possible motive would they have to kill each other? For such an outlandish theory, a whydunnit is required here.

When Jessica woke up and found the others outside the door, the door was definitely locked.

Let's just enjoy ourselves. There's a bit of info that hasn't been specified so let's get that out of the way first.

The door can be locked from the outside.

The window can be locked from the outside.

The lock mechanism is somehow broken and it being locked doesn't prevent anyone from opening or closing it.

The door was locked but left slightly using something as a door stop like a wood chip or a piece of paper, being both open and locked at the same time.

Of course we're talking about a ninja door stop that would leave only so much space between the door and the wall that no one would notice.

The door can only be locked from the inside.

The window can only be locked from the inside.

The lock is not broken and functions just like any other lock.

When the door is locked, it cannot be opened no matter what.

No cheap tricks exist!

Alright, let's go with something else entirely.

>When Jessica woke up and found the others outside the door, the door was definitely locked.

The door was unlocked during the time Jessica went to get the dining cart with the servant. The murders were done during that span of time, put the key where it was found then the culprit (Of course, George) just closed the door.
Then the other came back and smashed the door without bothering to check the lock.

How's that ?

You're absolutely correct.

By this point, the whydunnit and whodunnit should be pretty obvious by now, so I'll just give the full answer. George had planned to marry Shannon, however his parents found out and got into a heated argument on the consequences of such a taboo in the midst of the inheritance discussion. Regardless of their feelings however George decided they were a threat to his future marriage and murdered them both while they were caught off guard. He then took the key, locked the door, and called the others. While they were gone looking for tools to break the door down George unlocked the door, placed the key back inside and closed the door. No one checked the door was still locked and therefore broke down an unlocked door. The purpose of the locked room murder was to force the conclusion of a suicide and remove himself from suspicion.

I guess this really was too simple for the veterans of /seacats/. Til the next time, then.

Ah, well, that was fast.
Well, thank you for that, might have been fast but don't let that discourage yourself.
See you next time, we're always happy to get some new people, especially ones who write gameboard.
