It varies on different circumstances. I was once winded by a punch to the stomach and fell unconscious, whereas other types of injury have hurt me severely but I can remain conscious.

I can't take showers for the same reason as the little droplets of water cause me great discomfort and have made me pass out.

It's not a complete disadvantage. If I slap an object lightly I can feel the objects entire structure with just my hand (Though on bigger objects it doesn't work).
While it make it difficult to sleep sometimes lying on my silk blanket is quite enjoyable and there are some other things I enjoy like soft breezes.
